- Marseille, is a town in the South-East of France, capital of the Bouches-du-Rhône department and prefecture of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
In 2018, Marseille was the second most populous municipality in France with 868,277 inhabitants. Its urban unit, which extends north to Aix-en-Provence, is the third in France with 1,607,292 inhabitants, behind Paris and Lyon. Since January 1, 2016, Marseille has hosted the headquarters of the metropolis of Aix-Marseille-Provence, the second most populous in France with 1,873,707 inhabitants4. Its urban area is, for its part, the third in France after those of Paris and Lyon with 1,756,296 inhabitants in 2016. These figures make Marseille the largest city in the South of France, in the Occitan cultural region, as well as of the linguistic area of the langue d'oc.

Plu belle ville de France, dans toutes sa simplicité,ces grands espaces, sont soleil. Et pourtant pendant plu de 30ans , Marseille était soit disant le mauvais élèves de la France. Ont ne parlé même pas de Marseille à la météo. Je savais au fond de moi, que ma ville retrouverai sa place dans le Monde. J'en suis heureux, que n'autre ville fasse profiter de simples citoyens du monde. Marseille ce n'est pas n'autre chère cote d'azur ou toute est chère, et montre ces riches. Marseille est la côte d'azur des pauvres avec un peu de riche c'est ce qui fait sa richesse. Ville accessible à tous. MARSEILLE ET CES MARSEILLAIS CAPITAL DU SUD 🙏☮️☀️🏖️🎊🎉💃☮️

My mother was from Marseille. I lived there (mid 1960s) when I was younger. Boy the traffic downtown including along the old port used to be very heavy and non-stop. It sure has changed. Parts of the old town, a neighborhood called Le Panier were heavily damaged during bombing in World War II. My mother lived through that and remembers seeing allied bombers in the sky making their runs against the German installations.

Contemplating a visit last week of October from Genoa -> Nice-> Cannes -> Marseilles-> Barcelona (where the weather will be more warmish for winter was wondering how it would be in late October in French Riviera. How many days do you guess required in Marseilles / Nice region- Good Job and I am subscribed to your channel

When it comes to crime, Marseille is the Chicago or Detroit of Europe.
But it is a nice place to visit however.
There are some dangerous areas, but there are still some places worth visiting in Marseille .
