No man, Lyon is overrated. I live in it. Of course it's a beautiful city and I love it but what you see in this video is just the downtown with the best places. Like every big cities: Overpriced rents, grocery shopping, saturated transports and it becomes more and more unsafe.
@@notIkigai Hello, there are a lot of places to visit ! The "Hôtel Dieu", the basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, the "Parc de la Tête d'Or" the biggest park in a city in Europe, the Old Lyon (renaissance disctrict), and museums like the "Musée des Confluences" or the "Musée Lumière" where cinema has been invented
This city one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.. I fell in love with those beautiful pink trees in the intro 😍 would anyone by chance know the name of such beautiful trees? From United States of America with love thanks ...
Lyon - is the standard of what public transport and public spaces should be. After visiting it for just two days, I was left under a huge impression. Just as young artists go to the Louvre to study with great masters, so I want to return to Lyon for a few months and carefully study how a city should be for a person.
As I am living in Lyon, I feel so proud while reading your comment ! Obviously this city is not perfect, especially low-income neighborhood, but it is still one of the best city planning in France, or even in Europe, in my opinion
Aww this is giving me nostalgia. I studied abroad in Lyon(Université Lumière 2) back in the Spring of 2015. And this is reliving a lot of memories of walking around town! I can still vividly remember brisk walking from the Victor Hugo subway station to the uni, walking through the university bridge, freaking out if I'm gonna make it to class lol I wanna go back to see Place Bellecour, Parc Tête d'Or, Confluence, Croix-Rousse, etc.
It is truly a beautiful city with such majestic buildings so beautifully laid out . I’ve been to beautiful Paris but never to this city . I knew a Rabbi who was from Lyon but lived in Australia . I’d love to see Lyon in summer . Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 and thank you for this great video .
Lyon during the summer is beautiful and vibrant! My fav, but this might be around spring or late spring, is Fête des Roses where they adorn the whole city, like monuments, fountains, statues, etc, with red, pink and white roses. Then they have the Fête des Lumières during winter where the whole city is basically an art installation with light and music shows. It's incredible!
Thanks for filming Lyon ! I was born there and lived next to the City Hall for 12 years and then went back there to study. True story, when I was a child, about 9 yo, I said to my mother "This must one of the most beautiful city in the world". Not totally wrong :) Something to do with the light, almost mediterranean, the presence of two big rivers (le Rhone et la Saone), the call of the mountains in the distance, the different achitectural heritages (Roman, medieval, industrial period with the Canuts) etc. And I don't even mention the former fête des Lumières (today it's just commercial), when in December everyone lit candles on their windowsills and went to drink mulled wine in the crispy air. It really is a place to live, even if I concede it is a bit boring compared to Paris and the people can sometimes be cold (dreadful bourgeoisie lyonnaise). I lived in Paris for ten years and never liked this city, too dense, too grey and so pretentious - except for some rare spots away from the center with a more popular lifestyle. In France, Lille and Marseille have a soul even if I don't think I could live there, might be a bit complicated sometimes. Otherwise, I've lived in Marocco and I was mesmerized by Fès and enjoyed Tanger. In Europe, Rome is the most beautiful big city even if almost all cities in the South of Italy are beautiful (and in the South in general). The cities in Andalusia (Seville, Granada) are sumptuous and very pleasant to live in. I also lived in Belgium and fell in love with Brussels, it is really heteroclite but something magical with the art nouveau architecture and of course, the niceness and surrealistic mind of Belgian people ! Finally, I liked London with its giant parks and its vibrant energy...
Thanks for sharing your experiences and thoughts on Lyon and other cities! Lyon is truly a beautiful city with its Mediterranean-like light, the presence of two rivers, and its diverse architectural heritage.
For the traveller from Paris, and that city’s rather monochrome palette of grey to greyer (with splashes of very intermittent colour to relieve the gloom, for Paris knows that it’s a resolutely northern place, and its buildings reflect those often cloudy skies), the first thing that strikes you about Lyon, 250 miles to the south, are the warm colours. Someone described the city’s overall appearance as like a crate of peaches ripening in the sun and this captures it nicely, as the red roofs and sun-bleached, fading stone more than hint of Le Midi, a hop-skip-and-jump down the Rhone Valley (Vienne? Valence? Montélimar?) It’s no accident that Lyon is almost exactly on the same latitude as Milan and Venice, as there is more than a hint of the Italianate in the ochre walls. Lyon is a lovely open city, with significant elevation on one side - reminiscent of Grenoble - looking east over the rivers divided by Presqu'île, across the rest of town. The most charming bit is the oldest bit, as is always the case in most French (and other countries’) cities. I almost gave myself a double hernia trying to romp up Fourvière Hill, but the pain soon eased when I clocked the majestic views from atop. There are also significant Roman ruins up here that are more extensive than I’d expected; a couple of theatres and other sundry bits and bobs. Least said about the Basilica (a sort of Romanesque/Byzantine mess of a mash-up) itself, the better. The reason to be up here are the views. The best church in Lyon is the main cathedral just down the hill. The rest of the time is best spent just aimlessly wandering. The old working-class district of La Croix-Rousse is a (slightly gentrified) throwback to Lyon’s industrial past; a kind of self-contained village within the city. Place Bellecour, the city’s main square is a big, pompous, unwieldy thing and resembles nothing so much as a military parade ground. You can imagine Napoleon rallying his troops here on his way back from exile, (even if he never did.) But minor quibbles aside, Lyon can easily cope with 3 days of your life. I still can’t quite decide if its ‘northern’ or ‘southern’, though; I have always personally marked the start of Le Midi on this eastern side of France at Montélimar, but on a midsummer’s day in Lyon, with the cicadas’ electric buzzing filling the air: this could well be the _true_ south. But where oh, where, are the shutters?!
Blue hour is wonderful. This city remembering me to my city, Budapest. Same caharacteristic streets, buildings, the river in the middle, but the two sides of the city here is on same flat level. But this is France, and the walk is beautiful, I enjoyed...
Not the same level, It is very similar to BudaPest, with three levels because there are two rivers. On the third level you find the Basilica disposed on a hill th-cam.com/video/N_d-3OTasrw/w-d-xo.html

I understand your foreigner’s perspective. But really it isn’t : most buildings do not have the same architectural complexity and prestige. At all. Streets offer a very narrow range of businesses, mostly franchises and brands you see nationwide ; it does not offer as much creativity as Paris, you don’t find as many unique and innovative concepts. The size is not comparable, Paris GDP is 10 times bigger, over 150 museums vs 30 or 40… And also one thing foreigners can not tell just watching a video : Lyon is much smaller in size, which means very few to no places that are 100% safe. Scums from poor suburbs have very short distance to cover to join the city center and enjoy an afternoon of small robbery, pickpocketing, etc. In Paris there are places less safe, and places super safe. Lyon isn’t super safe anywhere.
@@vab120 Lyon has a lot of advantages compared to Paris and much better kept/managed than the French capital.
