I totally agree with the guy who said that they all (barker, hellhammer, kolias) can do it fast. More than enough. Kolias being the fastest, perhaps. But for me, Barker has the better feeling, the most unpredictable and creative drumming style. He just makes 'em sound both more aggressive AND catchy. Think about it: most of the lines in this video were composed by Tjodlav, the old Dimmu drummer. Barker has made them 10x more tight and intricate. The man is a drum god.
Jaime Noro They all are probably the best modern day drummers on the planet, not denying that, but when we're talking about speed it's no longer a matter of taste. Hellhammer is definetly the fastest of the three.
yeah, nick barker is one of a kind with his fills, accents and all; cof was great when he was there, so was dimmu. i love the old dimmu borgir but drumming-wise 100000 steps forward. he's a legend in his genre.
Hahaaha this is killer. You can see John "The Hammer" Goss on stage getting pissed off about something. He was Barker´s drum tech during his stint with Dimmu. Went to work with Nile, C.Corpse, Slayer, Judas Priest, and many more. Dimmu's crew and line up back in the day (or right after Nick joined the band) was so fun to be around. Was lucky enough to to a few gigs with them loading/unloading. Great times!
Nick Barker is the Neil Pert of Metal music. Others are fast, others use alot of cymbals...but Barker does it all AND he does it with beautiful composition unmatched by NOONE!
@@phoenixpruett2097I can kind of envision it, but Opeth has almost jazz-like drumming. That's a different sound altogether. But if anyone can do it, it's Barker.
totally agree, Nick's fills etc are amazing, just compare tracks off puritanical to en sorte, i think blessings upon the throne of tyranny is one of the best black metal drum instrumentals ive ever heard.
I've been listening to Dimmu Borgir for a few years now, and I always looked up to their music talent, seeing them as nearly untouchable. I am a drummer in a band who has played a few gigs and it's great seeing such a powerful juggernaut of black metal doing some of the same things my band and I do when we aren't performing. That usually includes one or more of us jamming/warming up in the middle of somebody trying to talk. lol. Nicholas Barker, though, blows my drumming talent out of the water.
And to think, Barker wanted to be a guitarist early in his life. Thanks to his "sausage fingers", as he declared himself, he switched to drums. One of the best failures in metal history.
И подумать, Баркер хотел стать гитаристом в начале своей жизни. Благодаря своим «колбасным пальцам», как он себя заявил, он перешел в барабаны. Одна из лучших «неудач» в истории металла.
Wow, someone with a factual constructive comment!! I know the feeling you are talking about, its about having two drummers who play exactly the same notes with no mistakes, but... one of them masters that "tight" feeling.
@Jendrij yeah,I got goose bumps listening it at first time, he does it so natural and it hardly perceived during show. I need to hear his line directly from his trigger, I guess he would playing more sensitive phrases. btw I think this vid offer some "live" sound against trigger topic.
I love Borgir, but the worst thing theyt ever did was sack Barker. The band turned to shit after that, both creatively and technically. Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia was by far their pinacle. And I feel that was in large part due to Barkers amazing drumming!
Dimmu should have done everything they could to keep the lineup from PEM. Since the departure of Barker, Vortex and Mustis the band has gone way downhill
Hellhammer, George Kollias.. Theye fucking kick ass on drums indeed! Nick Barker is the best drummer for Dimmu. GK is the best drummer for Nile. HH is the best drummer for Mayhem. Thats my opinion!
@darkinterpret I think that in this footage triggers are not that loud campared to the drums and cymbals itself so we can hear all the accents clearly!! I think all that trigger bullshit discussions are rubbish. It's simple to understand that triggers are helping people at the live shows to hear all speed double bass parts or even on other instruments, like N. Barker did on the album P.E.M. and during live acts!! Kudos for the video and cheers from Poland!!
I agree. I have watched HH since his earlyer bands and he grew a lot, from a drummer who only knew speed, now he knows technique too. But Nick is still tighter in my opinion.
I agree, he's like this drummer from the typical mexican metal band: Transmetal. Damn, so many years of playing and nogthing new with that drummer Sad.
Plays cymbals like a piano.
And his arrangement of songs is what bands miss when he's gone
Barker is a fucking machine! he's so fucking good!

Also his cymbal work is phenomenal.
I wouldn't say Kollias is the fastest of the three. Hellhammer blows that guy away.
C'mon man, nobody blows anybody away, it's a matter of taste. I prefer Barker, but they're all fucking sick.
Jaime Noro They all are probably the best modern day drummers on the planet, not denying that, but when we're talking about speed it's no longer a matter of taste. Hellhammer is definetly the fastest of the three.

this is one of my favourite dimmu songs
the insight and the catharsis

2.55, the best drum patter ever Nick's wrote for Dimmu! Unlimited creativity full with catchy lines. Hail to Mr.Nick Barker!
1:08 waiting for someone to sing "We're not gonna take it..."
4:39!! Listen to those hihat blast beat accents!! Fuckin sick! Nick is a GOD!!
I wish Barker had more online presence and could share some of his tricks!!
Thanks for uploading these Nick Barker vids,,, I've been waiting for years to see some good NB clips on TH-cam!
nick barker is a legend
id love to see him back with a band like dimmu
Nick is such a steamroller , in a league of his own entirely
3:14 Nick practicing even with just one note from Mustis's board sounds so fucking good.
Nick Barker = good taste drumming.
Nick barker rules. Greatness
Barker, Matte, Nils dominator , steve, susuki , h killerich , Raymond Herrera, Randy Castillo, burr, Holland, ward, the best drummers ever. Greatness
Dave Suzuki is by far the best, his blast beat, crash and china handling are some of the best
I like your list, and would add Trym Torson to it.
totally agree, Nick's fills etc are amazing, just compare tracks off puritanical to en sorte, i think blessings upon the throne of tyranny is one of the best black metal drum instrumentals ive ever heard.
Love all the comments that are about Nick Barker🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Nick was a real beast
I just wish I was there when this rehearsal was going on...faaaaak what a feeling it'd have been!! Barker he's a fukin beast
cool... the insight and the catharsis!!!

The Entire Vid I was just waiting what Mr. Barker was going to Do Next, Fuck This guy needs to puts some Vids !!!! A Legend in my Book.
And to think, Barker wanted to be a guitarist early in his life. Thanks to his "sausage fingers", as he declared himself, he switched to drums. One of the best failures in metal history.
Nick Barker, easily. Hell Hammer is fast but Nick is way more creative.
И подумать, Баркер хотел стать гитаристом в начале своей жизни. Благодаря своим «колбасным пальцам», как он себя заявил, он перешел в барабаны. Одна из лучших «неудач» в истории металла.
Предельно согласен с комментарием)
I'd say that this is probably a soundcheck and not a rehearsal.

awesome video!!! keep em comin man..

Woyeah.. More footage like this please :)
best dimmu borgir song indeed....
it's the insight and the catharsis.
lol typical drummer, giving the monitor guy hell!
i love dimmu btw
3:26 "Your speaker master Barker" hahahha \m/ \m/
my favirote song by them too!
THX FOR UPLOADING!!!!! :)
I love Borgir, but the worst thing theyt ever did was sack Barker.

Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia was by far their pinacle. And I feel that was in large part due to Barkers amazing drumming!
Totally agree and the same when he left cradle.anything Nic drums on is going to be great.
I’d guess those bands look back on that moment with a lot of regret. Frequently, a lot... very often.
@@pteradactylhippo
Nope worst for me is sacking Stian Aarstad.
He was the real creative force behind Dimmu
Dimmu should have done everything they could to keep the lineup from PEM. Since the departure of Barker, Vortex and Mustis the band has gone way downhill
PEM and DCA still the best Dimmu albums
Hellhammer, George Kollias.. Theye fucking kick ass on drums indeed!
Nick Barker is the best drummer for Dimmu.
GK is the best drummer for Nile.
HH is the best drummer for Mayhem.
Thats my opinion!
I would choose Nick over Hellhammer and Kollias. Kollias may be faster, but at fills, hes boring. Same paterns...
Kollias is more creative outside Nile, he even plays jazz
@@woodenhoe yes,I've seen a video here on youtube
"ten times louda!"
Turned out to be a Nick barker video instead!
what is that comparison with hell hammer, dam... hell hammer is a puppet
Barker PLAYS his drums, that's that Neil Peart in him. It's a gift
Yes! Nick Barker!
You're absolutely right.
wow interesting vid.... thx for uploading!
Nicholas is a beast
as far as barker "sticking with" db, they gave him the boot, he didn't leave on his own
@darkinterpret

yeah !!! Nick Barker BACK in ACTION!! Great Drumer! XD
Look at Galder looking at barker, he knew he the drummer for his next album lol
Mr Nick Barker The BEST!!!!!!!
Damn imagine a full cover of We're not gonna take it
Nick seemed very pissed off that night.
Nicholas rules 🤘🏻
Lmao people comparing hell hammer to Barker... Barker over hell hammer and many more
2:55 Kings of Carnival Creation 🤘
Insight of the catharsis
Tjodalv & Nick Barker are my 2 favorite drummers of all time :)
tht sux, nick is such a huge part to ne band he joins....like COF. do u by any chance know why he left cradle?
Its because of Barker symphonic black metal works!
01:09 that`s a Twisted Sister song
Nah, I've read somewhere on The Internet...It was an Interview with Silenoz.
LOL LOVE the Twisted Sister teaser :)
I cant figure what song it is at 4:31...
Could anyone PLZ tell me what song it is?
tormentor of christian souls; besser spätals nie, haaaaahaaa :)
Marthus sure was a surprise. I wish him luck.
The current lineup treated this lineup as replaceable hired guns... they didn't know what they had and have never been as great since.
niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!
Exact.
he's in gorgoroth now.
Backstage montreal 2001....
nostalgic :I
i think you're right. damn...doesn't even seem dani could b tht way
Nick's beats are fucking sick, I think I like him more than HH. Yes, it's amazing :D
Does somebody knows the name of the song at 4:35min? Thanks
robbindrums Tormentor of Christian souls
it seems that nick get angry with that sound guy.
@hellscan TOTALLY agree
Great blasting accents
LOL monitor guy kicking some crew ass.
nick... BEST DRUMMER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fucking cradle was over after nick left the band.........
ware the hell did you find this you lucky sod, nice one
I agree, he's like this drummer from the typical mexican metal band: Transmetal. Damn, so many years of playing and nogthing new with that drummer Sad.
The worst thing they did was to dismiss him. They have not had a drummer that can play his parts convincingly. Great players certainly, but not Nick.
is that Shagrath throwing a temper tantrum at the start???
what hurts the quality recorded with a toothbrush
Well, Mustis too.
Oh, nevermind, asked before listened wholly
@wolfboii999
Yeah man, For All Tid is and AMAZING album! :P
yeah sure man check out gorgoroth's myspace
dunno if he left dimmu but i'm pretty sure he didnt cause dimmu is way more popular than gorgoroth..
was the drummer playing were not gunna take it? 1:05
Barker the best metal drummer !!!
What's the song at 04:31
me too
When nick barker leaves a band, they just lose their song writing ability.
@TageVarulv Oh cool story bro! Are they your personal friends?..
do u have the full reason as to why it had to be tht way?
I didnt know they kicked him out. Why?
