  • One of the most unique parts of the Japanese school system is undoubtedly the sports festivals, an event that is uniquely Japanese. Join us as our twin daughters Rebecca and Anna participate in their last takusai in chugako and see what makes this an event like nothing else in the world.

Full of 80's American pop and rock music!

Sure tell how important it is to work and play as a team, not an individual, in Japanese culture.

Rebecca and Anna are already in the third grade?! It never ceases to amaze me how fast time flies. I thought I had just watched the video of their elementary school excursion to Nikko a few weeks ago, but I didn't realize that three years have already passed since then.

The Japanese school culture would benefit US children.

Picking up my Yen today at the bank. Getting excited. Trying to decide what to see and do in 5 days.

They did so good. My husband is Japanese and I’m American. My husband will tell me all about there festivals and stuff then I’ll tell him what it’s like in America. Then when we have a kid the kid is gonna be half Japaneses and half American so I’m like would it be best to be in Japan or stay in America? My husband wants a Japanese name too. I do too. But also there are alot of mean people here also teachers don’t take care of it. Japan I know there are still bullying going on. But schools are very strict. Also, they are better at teaching children than here in America. 😂

kinda remind me. my town's the field day (sport day). when I was growing up. in 90s. in my state.. my town love field day. they made it big for the kids. instead of the start of the year. they had it like, the week before last of day of school. they called it: Blue and Gold day (our town's colors) or if you went to the town's Catholic's school: Green and Gold day.(their school colors) all schools. but Junior high and High school. (because they have spirit week (their own sport day in the fall) celebrates Field day on same day. its almost like this, with a lot actives. grades complete with each other. either your on gold team or blue team.. But sadly, they don't do them anymore. its sad. you have to wait until Junior High now. to do something like this. but every time seeing Japan sports day festival. reminds of our town school Field day (sports day).

Lot of love from Trinidad in the Caribbean. Schools also do this throughout the Caribbean. Here in Trinidad specifically we start with the march past with the different school houses with a special presentation then a mix of regular races, relays and all the fun ones like 3 legged race, tug of War and all kinds of other fun races. I actually thought they did this everywhere 😅 but I guess it's not common in the US. Cool seeing the Japanese version.

In Japan, we used to have ball games and swimming competitions in addition to sports festivals.😀

Life of a parent: "Heeeeey, how was your day?", kid: "good" ... same thing here 🤣

I'm an Japanese old man, but I've loved school sports days since I was a child.

It is simply amazing!! The organization this took must have been immense. While hot and exhausting I bet it was fun as well. I also feel that it brings the whole school together and creates school spirit. What an awesome event!
