@@tbug50 Most places can't afford to fire employees xD They have to deal with it or be permanently short staffed (the corporation I work for is currently in this situation - they literally cannot afford to not let employees have time off).

@@tbug50 I don't know when the last time you looked at a job board was but the fact that minimum wage in practice has moved up to something like $15-$18 according to the free market should tell you something.
@@tbug50 Even in fast food it's changed. Employers still have to compete with each other to retain their best employees. As long as you're competent at your job request offs are more like "I'm letting you know ahead of time I'm not gonna be here that day so figure out your schedule" than actual requests. And this is fast food, bottom of the barrel.

A job tried to do this to me and I flat out said no because they wanted me to stay on for a low paying job and then I would have had to have Christmas alone at like 19. It was pretty hard for them to say much after that. I didn’t even have a problem working around Christmas, but not if I have to be alone on Xmas day. That’s cruel (unless they are ok with it).

I love that your actually showing the reality of working in this industry.
Let me just say thank you.....I used to own a small restaurant about 20 omg.....20 freaking years ago? I had to stop and do the math..... yes...20 years ago..... and your shorts.... brought back the most beautiful funny frustrating hilarious memories. It was one of my favorite experiences and it only lasted about 3 years for me, but the relationships and the moments I lived as the owner/manager taught me so much about myself and about people and I remember each and every employee with a deep sense of fondness..... even the problematic ones..... had their place in my restaurant's short but intense life.
I've been going through a rough time of rest and repair in my life and these videos reminded me that my little restaurant existed and for a short while it was a gathering place for the people who prepared cooked cleaned served ate celebrated at times saved and at others, irritated each other....it was a real experience in a place and time and it will forever be a pillar in my heart that helped shape me.
Your skits are so realistic only people who know would know. Hopefully everyone else just gets a kick out of them and those who survived the Pandemic remember why this industry is so unique and no other industry can truly say they understand what it's like to serve people in such an intimate way that a sit down restaurant does.

Actually, got suspended for 3 days cause i refused to come in during Christmas. Warehouse job, hated that place with a passion.

I briefly worked at a crappy hotel straight out of college, being treated like crap and only making $11 an hour. I told them I would not be available on Thanksgiving, almost a month in advance. Which was approved then the day before Thanksgiving they put me on the schedule and told me they "needed" me to be there. By that point a lot had happened including being sexually harassed by the manager, so I just quit right then and there.
Managers : the ones who can diss and compliment you at the same time

In Canada the tips working Christmas (any holiday really) are the best 😁 and the customers are normally stressed out dads who couldn't pull off making a dinner or burnt the dinner and are great full to have anywhere they can take there kids for food ❤️

I did that at a job once. I said I wouldn't be there Christmas, the manager said I had to be, so I quit. Fuck that noise. I'm lucky enough to get along with my family and my grandmothers are old as hell. You aren't taking Christmas away from me.

My sister comes home every thanksgiving. It's the only time of year she usually comes back. This year her management team is not giving anyone off thanksgiving or Christmas. It's the first time since she was 20 and living overseas she was denied. Really sucks. I try to visit her a couple times a year but it's the only time all 5 of us kids are all together.

I did that for eid ( put in my time off for months in advance) but when my manager started to bother me I told him I’m going home and if he’s firing me to tell me before my vacation’s over so I won’t have to come back. He backed down quickly after that.

I put my mother's day time off request in like 6 months early, I was not there that day.
One of the very few good things to come out of Covid is that restaurants (at least in my area) have had to start treating their people decently. Those which still act like it's 2018 end up without workers.
