He was, no, IS one of my all time hero’s. He is only a few years older than me, but when was dominating moto in the 80’s, I was an amateur racer. I wanted to be him. The man was pure poetry in motion on a bike.
I remember David and Rick Johnson fighting it out in supercross. David, you were awesome, but not as awesome as after the accident. You are a true inspiration.
Knew David good,raced him at his home then axton virgina.right out side of martinsville virgina,then he was just a kid he lived there right one the track.his dad Gary bailey had a bultaco motorcycle shop there and David raced bulls back then all the time,then david was really hard to beat there they called it lake sugar tree.his dad Gary was named the professor of motocross,and went all across the country having schools teaching riders how to ride and race motocross,I miss the old days of racing back then.but now motocross is nothing but a circus every body wants to see how high you can jump and how pretty you can be with crossups and wheelies.the old day of real true motocross and dead and gone,but hang in there David I had alot of great days and times racing with and against you and I'm really glad and proud that I got to know and race with you over the years your I guess you were ever little boys hero back then,so hold your head up high and be proud of the things you did back then because know one gave them to you.you worked hard and earned them your way!!!!!
Motocross is dangerous, as people can and get hurt, and or die, oftentimes that's forgotten, especially within the community itself. I rode as a youth at Indian Dunes, and sadly lost an acquaintance on my bike, and saw the closing of the park due to several people getting killed and paralyzed there..
yeah I rode 250 nov on a cr250 there got smoked but I gave it my best. Teah motocross is dangerous that's why when if your on top you don't take it for granted and look down your nose at people especially when they come to congradulate you. They maybe a different color or ethnic origin then you but look past that and except the gesture David didn't relize this and he acted in his own accord ne didn't want to shake the hand of a blackman now look where he is now, I still cant ride worth a shit but im black proud still riding and still walking....fuckin A.
As a kid I've heard the story of David Bailey. I'm from Huron where he got injured and unfortunately the track was closed. Some of us would still trespass and ride there, but a few years ago they completely leveled it out and converted into a water reservoir. Motocross died in Huron when Bailey got hurt!
