It was so cool to see Ricky Johnson actually call David Bailey his hero. Ricky was a hell of a hard charging, determined, and great rider himself.

The first pro motocross race I ever attended was the 1981 Red Bud Trans - USA Series and the first autograph I got was David Bailey. He couldn't have been more nice and told us to enjoy the race. He rode for Team Green Kawasaki #45 wearing Fox gear and I believe he was 7th or 8th overall, beating my favorite rider Bob "Hurricane" Hannah who I think was 9th or 10th overall. I have went to many pro races since then and have got many autographs, but David was my first and I still have the program he signed it on. I will NEVER forget it. Thanks David!! You was, were, and always will be a inspiration too all who know you or have followed your career. God Bless You!!

David Bailey was the smoothest rider I've ever seen. His riding style was effortless looking. I can't believe how he deals with the loss of being AMBULATORY. A true measure of a Man.

He was one of my childhood heros in the early 80's when i got into dirtbikes/motocross. Bumped into him at the Houston supercross late 90's. I talked with him and the editor of Racer X mag for a little bit. He signed a airbrush illustration of a motocross scene I had created which was my purpose of trying to run around in the pit area. Good times, 2-stroke days.

I also ran the orange JT gear and had the ALS-1 helmet i custom painted red/orange and blue. I raced at Moiser Valley on fri night and sat day towing my 86' honda CR125 behind my white IROC-Z.

    I enjoyed this vid immensely!!
A true golden reflection of a golden era, that helped shape my life.
These guys were so inspiring for me and everybody I rode with.
Not just about their will to win though, but also how to dedicate yourself to anything you want to do in life. They are winners, and were great inspiring role models; something that seems to be on the endangered list.
Who do kids look up to today, people like that kapnernick nut?

David was an awesome rider, one of the most technical MX/SX riders ever. I was lucky enough to trained with Gary at his ranch "Lake Sugar Tree MX park two consecutive years." the first time he gave us a delightful demonstration of SX.
But the most important, he is a PRO as a man, no matter what he pursue.

I think it’s amazing that enough people rallied around him and helped him get on after the horrific injury! I wish there was more help for injured people. I lost my careers in Law Enforcement and Soldiering due to a sever injury that made my sciatic nerve stop working correctly, causing me extreme pain, foot drop, etc. Now it’s really hard to find a good job.

Hero's in my book also. But not because they were the best racers in the world, but because they had/have a fantastic human "can do" spirit, that was the cause of them being the best racers in the world.
It is the greatness of the individual human spirit, where hero's come from.

A true gentlemen ....Really ? How good do you know him? Well I dont know him either but i'll ell you a story real quick. In 86' I rode my Yam 1100 from Palmdale to Carlsbad went to the UsGp. untll the moment I reached thru the fence to shake Baileys hand I respected and admired him. when he looked down at my hand , looked up at me and turned away even the people who just shook his hand were floored kept asking me if I knew him. to which I answered no....then they got the just or injust of his refusal because the only thing that separated me from all the other spectators was the color of my skin. So praise that yellow belly cock sucker if you want to but I have wiped my ass with paper that is stronger than he is. Fuck David Bailey.

Wish I knew he made that limited run. I would have bough it.... I still have my Bob Hanna jersey signed by him when he went to Honda... As I worked for Yamaha and raced a Honda. That didn't go over to well. But I told the owner. I paid for it, not you. You should have sold me a Yamaha at cost. He did the next year :0
