Maybe I felt the way because the youtube version is cut short abruptly but Pakeezah comes off as a tepid boring story of two Tawaifs - mother and daughter, neither of whom made any sensible decisions in their lives. The film was shot over two decades which shows on Meena Kumari's face. But Meena Kumari stamps the film with an aura of regality and elegance. The supporting case hams their way through the monotonous dialogues and really the screenplay is woefully short of any ideas, depending on coincidences to carry the film through. The opulence of the sets and Meena Kumari's costumes (done by herself) is a treat to the eye and can put Sanjay Bhansali to shame. Apart from Meena Kumari, the crowning glory and also in this case, the saving grace is the fantastic music by Ghulam Mohammed.
Amazing costumes and the elegance of such poetry in the songs .... Masters at work creating classical music ..... The pace leaves you wanting more and such suspense...

लड़कपन मे देखा था अच्छा नही लगा उर्दु भाषा जानते हुए भी समझ मे नही आया था लेकिन कुछ सीन और गीत बहुत अच्छा लगा था अब may 2024 मे देख रहा हूँ
