Thank you all for your wonderful comments and tips on how to better eat, I look forward to continuous learning on how to eat and enjoyment of Somalian food :)
I’m Somali, but I’ve never eaten banana with injera. In my family, we do the injera, oodkac, honey, ghee and we pour the hot tea over the injera. The injera will soak up that tea and you get that floral, tea with every bite Along with the salty meat
Oh man your lucky because I love odkac but there is no odkac in this area😢😢 last time I eat ODKAC AND ANJEERO was in mogadishu 2014❤❤❤❤ ENJOY WATCHING YOUR VIDEO AND THANKS FOR MAKING ME FEEL HUNGERY😂😂😂😂
I love your genuine appreciation for our cuisine. And I’m happy Somali food was a source of comfort for u during a difficult time. With such curiosity and humility, I think you’ll be alright
I’m curious to know how non-Somalis discover Somali culture, we are very tight knit and this often deters people from indulging in our foods/culture. Very odd/refreshing to see a video like this that is not for views like the ones we see on tiktok. Great video!
Certain people who are youtubers especializing in food tasting and introducing different foods to western audience will always find Somali restaurants in different places
By tight knit - you mean a closed culture I presume? No somalis are not closed to outsiders. Their restaurants just focus on serving somali customers only and so there is no advertising to others and the standards - decor, cleanliness etc - are often below what is expected by the general customer base. That's why they don't get a lot of non somali traffic but that is changing slowly.
Odkac an Anjeelo are traditional Somali food, with Ghee, Sesame oil and tea but not banana . We eat banana with rice, pasta with meat and sauce. Somali food is most tasteful.
Hi chef they didn’t tell you the history of Odkac which is Odkac doesn’t not need refrigerator for weeks and it was travelers best food to carry in pre refrigerator world.
I'm somali and I confidently say banana does not come with everything as shown in many somali food trying videos. It comes with rice and sometimes with pasta.
Well done mate, hope you enjoyed it! Now to the important part, whoever let my man eat canjeelo and oodkac dry is a criminal 😂. They should've provided you with hot black tea to pour over the canjeelo just like they did the sesame oil (which is the traditional way). The black tea is what's supposed to add the sweetness (traditionally) and it does also bring out more flavours from the meat as it soaks into both the meat and the canjeelo whilst forming a lovely union with the sesame oil. When you eat it with the banana instead of the black tea you lose all of those flavours (except the sweetness which is only a fraction of the flavours) as the banana really doesn't soak into anything and therefore doesn't bring out the complex mix of flavours the that the dish has the potential to unearth. Bananas are usually eaten during lunch with rice and pasta. All other dishes are banana free (traditionally). So suqaar, hilib geel (waslaad), sabaayad, malawax, oodkac & canjeelo etc are traditionally eaten without the banana! Try it with the black tea and sesame oil next time, you'll thank me😊
Update: I saw that they gave you the black tea, but forgot to tell you what it was for (not just for drinking in this case). Add it next time and skip the honey, I think you'll love it even more.
that is uniqe breakfast somalis do and is traditonal food about hundrens years by found people from bush becaouse it stays for long time they were butting fresh butter but these days people wants to but oil but is good with butter. these even they use for wedding when the new family eats every morning.
The pancake with the meat and ghee then lightly drizzle some honey and black tea.Thats the best way imo.I haven’t had with sesame oil or olive oil.Didnt know oilve oil was even used for this. But ghee is more traditional and never with Banana, maybe Mogdishu twists.
We appreciate you trying to taste Somali food. I hope you enjoy this yummy Somali breakfast we Somalis have. Somalis don’t usually eat this with banana. 💙
You should have added some spicy tea without the milk on top of the dish that raises the flavour of the dish the injera, spicy tea, hone and the ghee with the chewiness and flavour of the meat just blend so deliciously 😊
I love oodhkac with cankerlo, but I have never eaten banana and I don't any Somali who does that, but I may try, you never know how tasty it is, I definitely eat bananas with almost everything ❤❤❤
Maxaa oday badan odkac lagu dilay😂😂😂😂 . Odayga odkac haloo jaro micnaha ticket aaqiiro haloo jaro beey lamid tahay😂😂😂 Qof waa yeel ah oo saliid la siiyay maxaa ka haraayo😂😂😂
Ghee or Olive oil. Taste of Sesame oil is not good but they prefer it in South Somalia for some weird reason but it's ghee the traditional way or olive oil that's how it was done and its delightful. The taste of sesame oil is off-putting to say the least!
This is Anjero not Injeera Ethiopian made totally from different things. The type of dish you have usually goes not with banana. There is a false myth Somalis eat everything with bananas which is untrue! With some dishes some do, it's just like a side thing like chilli
Canjeero saliid lagu darayo OO Hadana odkax lagu cunaayo waligeey ma arag 😂😂😂 Maxaa yeelay odkaca waaba saliid badanyahay sidee saliid kale loogu daraa😂😂 war dadka ha waalina😂😂😂
Thank you all for your wonderful comments and tips on how to better eat, I look forward to continuous learning on how to eat and enjoyment of Somalian food :)
I thought the same thing. Bananas are for savoury dishes not laxoox and shaah. Muqmad and laxoox with shaah caddeys ah is enough of a breakfast.

Me too!!
We eat banana with bariis and baasto
Never laxoox/canjeero.
if you are from the South, then you know banana goes with everything that you are comfortable with.
@@LJama6119 waa runtaa just only south Somaliya
Canjeelo ayaa leenahay injera dad kalaa leh marka dhaqankaaga markasta sidaad adigu u taqaano ugu dhawaaq si uusan khalkhal u galin👍🏽
It is not 'injera.' It is called *canjeero.* Canjeero is nothing like the bitter, yeast-ladden injera. Afkaaga iyo cuntadaada hormari.
In somali culture, we eat banan with rice, pasta, and soor with spinich souce(polenta) dishes only❤😘
all this admiration belong to our great Somali women and Mama's who deserve to be mention.
yes thanks for the reminder
Somalian food is one of the best in the world thank you sharing with us

You need to get Malawax, it’s 10x better than Canjelo in every way and is also amazing with Odkac
Oodkac is the best 😋
You should have added some spicy tea without the milk on top of the dish that raises the flavour of the dish the injera, spicy tea, hone and the ghee with the chewiness and flavour of the meat just blend so deliciously 😊
Thank you for the tips we'll have to do that next time!
