    I have had a 2000 4x4 5.4 expedition for a couple years now, an old fire chief’s vehicle for 1300$. thank you for the inspiration and guidance! I am in the process of making up the rock sliders now!

    I’ve just found your channel, and I’m really excited. I have a 2003 Expedition Eddie Bauer package that I intend to build out and it’s been hard finding some inspiration videos. Thanks!

    Nice Rig! I have a 99 Expy that I love. It’s a tow / soft roader and daily driver. Great looking rear bumper and hidden winch. I hope to see more vids. Good luck with your channel!

    I have an 03 expedition Eddie Bauer edition. Other than falken wild peak AT tires she’s stock. I’ve driven on the beach in NY a lot. Wonder how it would far hang on some over-landing. I do worry about the rusty bits underneath from the driving up north with road salt and beach driving. Even though I stayed out of the ocean with her she did kick up sand

      @@ickess Same. I've got air and no one makes a kit that I'm aware of. ...the ride, I say the ride, so smooth it must be a limousine (Lyrics from Prince btw) The ride IS smooth and I'm not given it up in order to lift it. So I'm stuck with something that takes on the speed bumps and spilled koolaid at Target like a beast.

    Love your Expo! I have a 99 with 33's. Do you find the 35's hinder regular road driving (e.g. turning circle, ride, etc.) Are you lifted at all?

      Thanks! I’m happy with the road manners. I’m running e rated BFG all terrines so they are heavy. But the brakes do fine. I even pulled my camper with this setup. I have 2” rear spring spacers and did a torsion twist to get about the same in the front.

    I like your setup! Im new to overland and just bought a 2000 Expy that I love and it too is a daily driver, or at least a backup with gas being what it is. Nice rig!

    I watched your other video first before I found this one. Big Red looks good and your customization work s awesome. The 35s on it looks good. I have an F150 screw that I want to change out front carrier in. Watching your video has helped me make a decision. I was unaware you had to torque up your Eaton like that to get it to engage the axle to make a true 4WD work.

    i love the running boards, better than any of the aftermarket ones ive seen for sale. Have you ever gotten them pushed up against a obstacle or ran them against rocks? im thinking about making some running boards like how you did for my 99 expedition

    • @starksexpeditions121
      @starksexpeditions121  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have indeed hit them hard, one of them has got some damage. It is pushed up about a 1/4". An Expedition is very heavy so sliding off a rock carries a lot of impact. But I'm happy with there performance.

  • @thatslowyukon1362

      @starksexpeditions121  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've got a 98 expedition (eddie bauer) that we've dubbed old red. Fun to run across a similar nickname. Anyway, I'm wondering what you'd say the total build cost would be to do a similar setup--truetracs, bumpers, winch, etc? And have you noticed mpg drop with 35's? Looks like stock is about a 31.5" tire...

    • @richarddavis2345
      @richarddavis2345 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, what have you broken and fixed so far in your offroad adventures?

    • @starksexpeditions121
      @starksexpeditions121  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@richarddavis2345 That's a lot to cover here. Diffs all done about $2200, winch and mount $800, made by me bumpers, sliders $300 steel, with the 4.56 gears and 35s I get 13 to15 on the highway, 10 off road. I used a tuner to get the speed right on so that's real numbers. I've only had issues with CV axles, broke 2 but know how to save them by different driving techniques in low range.

  • @mondavou9408
    @mondavou9408 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like the video. You've hit on some topics I found helpful (e.g. articulation, limited slip, engagement of the limited slip). I have an '03 and have been thinking about adding a locker in the front. My rig has 150k on it and I was told to replace the rear because the clutches in limited slips (in general) wear out over time (Frankly, I don't believe anything anymore). What has your experience been? From the video, its seems to be working just fine.

    • @starksexpeditions121
      @starksexpeditions121  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I autocrossed a Mustang with the factory clutch limited slip and I would put new clutch discs after every race weekend so yes they wear out. I replaced them with Eaton TruTracks. Basically a limited slip without clutches. If you are driving mild trails the Truetrack is a great option, a selectable locker is best but the most expensive. I have an 89 Bronco built for the hard Colorado trails and use a Yukon Locker in the rear and an Eaton E-Locker in the front. Being able to select lock or open in the front is the best as it gives you the ability to lock both wheels or open for snow and ice and allows you to turn without binding.

      @@starksexpeditions121 Thanks for the info on the autocross and setting me straight on the TruTracks! I think I had them confused with Ford's AdvanceTrac. Looks like a TRUTrack or ARB rear and an ARB Front.

    Nice ride!! I thinking of picking up an expedition and I’ve been watching tuns of videos to get info on the vehicle. I found a 05 with 200k plus miles for a really good price. I’m very close to make the offer to the seller. Is it a reliable vehicle?

      There were a couple of years in gen 2's right around there that had some complaints of EGR sensor and coil pack failure. But overall, Expeditions are very reliable across the board.
