Hi Omri. This is the first time for me posting a comment on any of your TH-cam presentations, although, as a recent newcomer to the whole expansive and immersive world of VCV Rack, I've been immensely enjoying (and benefiting from) them for many weeks now. I especially enjoy your "from scratch" tutorial style videos, because I'm finding that nothing me takes me deep into the realm of patching as well as these do - I can read books and UGs and the like, but they always leave me (being not especially technical-minded) in the dust. Your tutorials are much more relatable (and repeatable). Anyways, aside from simply thanking and complimenting you on your channel, I wanted to offer up an idea for a potential future video, since you occasionally have ended other ones canvassing your viewers for ideas. I've been really intrigued by the Elektron Oktaktrak MK II for some time now, as sampling (and sequencing of samples) is something I find really intriguing. But Oktaktrak looks a bit daunting. And regardless, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to spring the >$2K CAD for a big chunk of hardware to sit on my desktop, especially since I'm really aiming for a total software-driven workflow. So my idea is this: Would it be possible to string together a bunch of different VCV Rack modules to emulate the Oktatrack? I don't expect a complete replica is within the realm of the possible, but a virtual rig that could get me 50% of the way there would be appealing. What do you think? Is that a challenge worth exploring? Danke und viel Gruesse aus Kanada, Frank Paul.

The moment you raise the operator 2 in the Dexter , I got a taste of heaven. Very very nice! Oh AND , when you reverse the sample , it gives a sound of a string orchestra , so cool!
I'm not sure, but I think the idea may have come from another YT channel. The challenge on that channel (taken from some modular synthesis forum or other) is that you start with a standard mixer and audio out - some stretch the rules a bit by using a reverb with the mixer but some argue "that's cheating". It goes against the literal terms of the challenge, but some people just can't help but include it! If you do use reverb, it can NOT be used for anything but the final, overall audio output - you can not use the reverb to patch in as a CV, modulator, or delayed trigger or gate to any of the three modules. At that point you use the VCV web sight "random" search feature to select two modules. You can re-roll if the random module is a visual (like an oscilloscope for instance) or blank module, but other than that exception you MUST use what ever the search gives you in some fashion. For the third module you can select any one module from the entire list and it can be as complex or simple a module as you wish. That's it! That's all you get to use. You can only use one iteration of each of the three modules but you can patch them any way you choose. Like poker, you can get dealt two really bad modules from the random search, and whether or not the patch is any good or not all depends on your third choice. It's not a speed challenge, and there is no limitation on the *type* of patch, ie; rhythm, melodic, drone, etc. Sometimes you have to really think about your third choice because it's "final"; you can't throw it out and go back to make another third selection.

@@nickrobins3121 Well, yes, totally, you can use something like Plaits, for example, or even a simple VCO, VCF, VCA, ADSR combo. Try experimenting with different oscillators, you might find something you like.
I absolutely love your videos, sir! I just recently started learning VCV Rack. This is just the type of stuff I'd like to create. I have one question about the uMap module. When you add it, I don't quite understand how it's automatically connected to one of the channels of the mixer, or the bird sounds. Additionally, not that I have anything at all against sampling, I think those bird sounds are quite nice. You got an "oh yeah" from me. But I'm wondering if you have tips for creating bird sounds (or other nature sounds) within VCV Rack. Thank you so much for doing what you do! Happy new year as well!
I appreciate it, thank you! About the uMAP module, it's working more or less the same as Midi mapping. It's possible to map a parameter without connecting any cables, and by sending CV to uMAP, control this parameter with voltage. Does this make sense? About the birds, ratcheting and sine waves are your friends. Also, pitch modulation with some glide can be interesting. Cheers and happy new year!
@@OmriCohen-Music Thank you so much for your reply! I will explore all of these things you mentioned. This is all quite fascinating, especially coming from the world of rock and jazz. Warm greetings from Minnesota, USA ☮️🍄
I answered my own question. Mapping is sorcery. On µMap, when you press the button it turns red, then the next thing you press gets mapped to it without wires. 😳 Amazing!
Hey Omri, Beautiful patch, thank you for sharing. I’m creating an installation for school that will use VCV Rack to trigger bird noises when the viewer sings. Do you have any recommendations for modules to use ? So far I am just using clouds with a quantised sequencer that pitch modulates the delay. I have another patch that sounds just like birds, but it was a complete fluke and I can’t replicate it ... perhaps I should go record some bird noises
Thanks! Do you mean synthesizing bird sounds? Well, pitch modulation is the main idea I guess. try having an LFO doing that, maybe a sawtooth shape, and use a sequencer of S&H to change the rate of the LFO over time. Also, if you're familiar with Karplus Strong synthesis, you can get some psychedelic birds with it for sure :)
Hi Thank you so much for these videos they are so so helpful. Is there a way to get my mouse so that when I hover over a button it will give me that little grey info bar?
I'm just getting into this and this sounds great! I'm trying to replicate it on my VCV, but I can't find µMap and Re-Burst on the VCV Library. Any alternatives I could use? Thank you!
Hi! I hope Sroermelder will get updated soon but for now, have a look here - github.com/stoermelder/vcvrack-packone/releases/tag/Nightly About ReBurst, there's the Burst Generator from Count Modula you can use. Cheers!
@@electric_bimma it's been a minute since I played with it. Maybe you can loop the bust generator back to your note generator. I forgot the name of it. 😅
Well, it will take the stereo signal and will split it into two bands according to the frequency you set so let's say you set 500Hz, you will have once everything above 500Hz and once everything below 500Hz. Then, you can set the level for each band independent from one another, and also the stereo spread. I use it usually to reduce the stereo spread of the bass frequencies, but you can use it in all sorts of ways of course.
This one is FUN, thank you Omri! This is just the intermediate-ish level VCV Rack tutorial I was looking for. You are a very inspiring and kind-hearted teacher.... I am at 9:40 and having an issue tracking down Re-burst, though. Rapelzen doesn't even show up in the brand column in the online VCV Library. I had to google Repelzen and a link came up to their modules *in* VCV Library though, which was odd... I clicked +ADD hoping for the best, but it didn't show up in my VCV Rack... oh well, it's getting late and I need to take a break from the excitement anyway :P but if anyone has any suggestions how I might track down Re-burst, I'd owe ya one! Thanx :)
Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) About ReBurst, you can use thye Burst generator from Count Modula together with a random source to get these random bursts of notes. I updated the patch on Patch Storage so you can download it and see exactly how to patch it :)
@@OmriCohen-Music Ha my Reburst finally showed up. don't know what was up with that... in any case, I just finished this video and the only thing I wasn't able to do now was the very last bit with the μMap, can't track that one down anywhere either. Thanks! I'll see what I can do :)
Very nice! I have a small question tho. The modules that you used for this video are free?
Thanks! And yes, all the modules I used a free :)
@@OmriCohen-Music nice! Thank you, I can’t wait to try it out!
Awesome music
Thanks!
@@KyleGrayYoung Have fun and let me know how it goes :) Cheers!
Great. Btw how much time it took you to learn about all these modules?
Thanks! Well, I've been using VCV for about 3 years now...
One question - did you forget to attach the output of µMap to something at the very end to actually modulate the birds?
I answered my own question. Mapping is sorcery. On µMap, when you press the button it turns red, then the next thing you press gets mapped to it without wires. 😳 Amazing!
Yeah, this is really like black magic... But it's super helpful when you want to control something that has no CV inputs.
Hey Omri,
Beautiful patch, thank you for sharing.
Omri Cohen Thanks for the advice ! I’ll let you know how I go
@@benjaminhoney5749 Great!
Hola!! Gracias por el trabajo..
Es posible descargar este sonido en un enlace??
Hi! The samples I used are available in the link, yes :)
Son gratis o de pago?? Intento encontrar el link, pero no entiendo mucho inglés y no encuentro el link correcto.....pero muchas gracias.
❤❤❤ super nice 😊😊😊
Thanks!
Hi Thank you so much for these videos they are so so helpful. Is there a way to get my mouse so that when I hover over a button it will give me that little grey info bar?
Nevermind I just found it.. Parameter tooltips in the menu.
Cheers!
I'm just getting into this and this sounds great! I'm trying to replicate it on my VCV, but I can't find µMap and Re-Burst on the VCV Library. Any alternatives I could use? Thank you!
Hi! I hope Sroermelder will get updated soon but for now, have a look here - github.com/stoermelder/vcvrack-packone/releases/tag/Nightly
About ReBurst, there's the Burst Generator from Count Modula you can use.
Cheers!
@@OmriCohen-Music awesome! Very much appreciated!
@@theycallmegodkid did you manage to get burst gerenator working? im trying now but only getting 1 note value from it
@@electric_bimma it's been a minute since I played with it. Maybe you can loop the bust generator back to your note generator. I forgot the name of it. 😅
very very very nice, thank you, bye from naples
Cheers!
What does the Bassmaster do? I read the short description of the module but I don't really understand what it does
Well, it will take the stereo signal and will split it into two bands according to the frequency you set so let's say you set 500Hz, you will have once everything above 500Hz and once everything below 500Hz. Then, you can set the level for each band independent from one another, and also the stereo spread. I use it usually to reduce the stereo spread of the bass frequencies, but you can use it in all sorts of ways of course.
You are amazing
Cheers!
amazing
Thanks!
@@OmriCohen-Music Awesome thanks again!
@@OmriCohen-Music sorry, I'm not sure where Patch Storage is
@@themusiccompass2815 no worries, here's the link patchstorage.com/https-youtu-be-z9bzvdy2yna/
@@OmriCohen-Music Ha my Reburst finally showed up. don't know what was up with that... in any case, I just finished this video and the only thing I wasn't able to do now was the very last bit with the μMap, can't track that one down anywhere either. In fact, Stoermelder doesn't even show up in the VCV Library Brand column... Oh well, no worries here... I learned SO much from this one, thanks again. Look forward to checking out more of these for sure!
So frustrating. I cannot find that Additive Vibrations module anywhere on the VCV library site. Help?
after some digging I realize some modules are not compatible with VCV 2.0
Yeah, it will take a few more days until all of the modules will be available :)
oh yes oh yess hahaha perfect
Cheers!
veeery bladerunner
How did you put output of plateau (the one higher ) to the main out ?
It's not going to the ouput but rather inside the send effects of the mixer.
@@OmriCohen-Music right, hard to duplicate :) daym.
@@RAFAELLO077 There's a link to where you can get the patch and have a closer look at how things are connected exactly. Let me know if you need any help :)
@@OmriCohen-Music thank you very much
