In this video, I talk about a tweet made by Happymon Jacob who is a professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru University. I believe it is important to understand that there is no right or wrong in geopolitics. Taking the example of Russia and Pakistan who over the years have had various military exercises together. For some reason in 2022 these exercises were discontinued. Nations align when there are allied goals. Coming to the relationship of India, China and Russia. Russia and India have a great relationship as India does nothing that threatens Russia. On the other hand, China is a threat to Russia. Russia has a huge amount of leverage against China. It is dependent on Russia for its needs. I carefully analyse every point of the tweet and break it down point by point.

Honestly if Russia favours China over us, so what? They realise where their survival is at. We also balance Russia and US and they’ve been kind enough to understand. Russian isn’t an enemy just cause they’re working with China, they know they’ll always be able to work with India on issues where India has some power to help. Overcoming powerful sanctions isn’t one area we can help them with.

Abhijit has somethings wrong. There's no real "Russia" nor "China" it is all people. It's people who have agency and behaviour.
What happened yesterday maybe predictable, what happens today maybe surprising, but there's no telling what the future holds.
There are patterns, the five eyes may not do what is absolutely what is in the best interests of each other. However, their values align on most topics, so it is obvious to recognise patterns.
So Abhijit is wrong to try to use the last 50 years of history to understand what will happen in the future. As JNU said in a roundabout way, we can merely make predictions. But we can't know. We simply understand that the Nation States of USA, Mexico, China, Russia, India, Brasil, and South Africa are powerful, rich, and influential. But it isn't so much as the nations themselves that make decisions, it's the people who hold (PoP) positions of power. So it is kind of dumb to say Russia prefers China over India, no, it's more accurate to say someone in PoP makes decisions that is more beneficial to one party over another. Conditions change, people's preferences change, and the individuals who hold those positions change. Case in point, post-WW1 Germany which swung from one type of political climate to the opposite in a brief moment of time.

Abhijitbhai, this is a brilliant, comprehensive and very accurate strategic analysis. Our military and diplomatic establishments should pay close attention. Congratulations! Addenda: Although this part is not polite, it is brutally honest: The Wire is a very strange media with a fixated, preset agenda! They have two outstanding anchors in terms of craft but I usually disagree with their coloured content - Karan Thapar and Ms Sherwani. Then they have two complete weirdos with very strange views - Prof Jacob and Retd Colonel Praveen Sawhney. If these two are really strategic analysts, then I am Field Marshals Manstein and Rundstedt rolled into one!!

Abhijit ji your analysis sounds perfect.Looks like the Professor is trying to bias Indian foreign policy makers to sign India as NATO + thus pushing India to take compulsory stand even on things when India's National Interest demands otherwise. In fact India should put many conditions to US to join as NATO + rather than saying NO. These can be - (1) India will reserve the right to dissent to any NATO diktat when it is convinced that it is against India's National interest ( action against Russia) (2) India's already signed treaties with any Country (imply Russia) for Defence cooperation will override obligation to comply with NATO+ decisions (3) Just as USA buys millions of tons of goods from its enemy China, India will be free to buy anything from any country as per its needs even if they are hostile to NATO (Russia / China) (4) India will pay to USA in INR instead of USD for any imports it makes from USA. (5) In case of conflict of NATO with any country, India will reserve the right to remain neutral to suit its national interests. (eg Russia) (6) India will support NATO action for only those countries who are hostile to both USA and India .(eg China) (7) India can make its own sub-group for defence cooperation from NATO countries ( like the QUAD) (8) India will be free to buy arms and related technology from any country ( NATO or Non-NATO) as per its defence needs (Russia) (9) If India is forced to wage a war against any Non-NATO country (or such country wages a war against India) to take back India's illegally occupied territory, NATO will extend full support to India (eg China) (10) Any NATO member if it gives direct or indirect support to a country which is at war with India, NATO will restrain that country to cease and desist from such action. (Turkey to Pakistan) (11) NATO will not give membership to any new country who is hostile to India as perceived and decided by India (eg Pakistan) (12) India's application for permanent seat on Security Council if opposed by any Non-NATO country, US will override it (13) Any other condition as per fertile mind of FM and his working group !

    Hi from Russia.
    1. Friendly relations with India is a serious asset we do not want to give up
    2. India is needed to balance China. Important! China generally agrees to be balanced, as it understands the need for the absence of hostility towards China for successful development. We are all in the same boat
    3. India has repeatedly demonstrated the volatility of its policy. For example, a pro-US turn after the death of Indira Gandhi. India is an important but not very reliable partner.
    4. The US is ready to offer India the role of a new China, but it will come at a price. India will cut itself from the rest of Eurasia and be forced to pursue an increasingly aggressive policy towards China, which could eventually lead to a full-fledged war. We have no doubt that the Americans were preparing Russia for the role of a military fist against China.
Now the US is trying to impose this role on you.
    5. Joining the Greater Eurasia project is beneficial for India. You will give Eurasia an oceanic dimension, and with your participation Eurasia will become a truly global center of power.
    6. Big question: will India have to make a choice?
I think you are big enough to stay away from the confrontation, but in this case you will also be left without the benefits that the winning side will receive.

India has always been independent. We never became slave or vassal to any country after independence. And this is the Indian century. Neither the West, Nor China can push us. We will keep benefitting from them both. Russia and China are just friends with benefits for now. Your economy is crumbling and You had to bend you policies for China. But Kremlin also remembers that Russia has a lot of land that Chinese Communist Party is eyeing on. You'll see their hypocrisy after a decade. Russia and India will remain beneficiaries of each other till Eternity as our borders don't touch and we are far from each other. Few of our enemies are common. Remember this, India was plundered for 300 years by the British(now that's U.S. deep state). So, don't think we'll fall into the Western trap. It's just about 30 more years. The West will lose suit. Asia will get back to it's glory.
Lastly, Taking up your point 3, That pro-US turn was after fall of Soviet Union and By that time, we were dirt poor and in debt due to Fabian socialistic policies. So, In 1991, we had to open our economy to U.S. and the West. It was a do or die situation. And we never ditched Russia. You are far too emotional here.
