- After YEARS of looking, we finally bought our FIRST HOUSE! I am so excited to welcome you into our NEW HOME in this empty house tour video! It has been my dream to be a homeowner... and that dream has finally come true!

I have so much planned for this little 1950s Cape Cod style house of ours and I cannot wait to get started on the DIY projects in MY OWN SPACE! 😍

That wall you want to tear down looks like a supporting wall. You would have to get a big beam I think to take the weight. The house looks cozy and very nice. Congratulations and good look!

Sam, I remember our first house. Oh it was an adventure. A few days into it, the line from the old oil tank for the furnace burst and flooded our unfinished basement. This was country living and the volunteer fire department suggested a tent to sleep in since furnace oil - STINKS. Fortunately the oil company came in and pumped out the basement. Sigh. However, it was still amazing to have your own home.
On another note, can you cover how to spot a load bearing wall. That came up since you are tearing down a wall.
Again, congrats. What a terrific thing it is to have a home. Now you can increase your Vans collection :)

I really enjoy watching people work on their own spaces. The creativity is so different when it’s for ourselves. Also I really like the jumping off points. I’m excited to learn basic wood jointery and noodle through my next project.
Thanks to all the creators out there who diy in a 20-30 minute video. I like watching these as I sand for the 14th time or whatever I eventually weeks later finish.

Congrats Sam!! I remember 4 years ago the struggle I went through trying to buy a home, lots of tears. Once I did there was so much work involved to take a 75 year old home and bring it in to the 2020's. Every moment was worth it! Cant wait to see all the videos you will put out over the next few years as you guys grow in your new place.

Thank you so much! I am so, so excited. Had that moment in there with my dad a few days ago when my brother called and he said, “I’m at Sam’s house”’ on the phone. It feels surreal. 😭
I’m looking forward to following the renovation journey! For the shop walls, think osb or plywood for the second layer. It allows you to hang things wherever rather than being limited to stud locations.

I did that very thing in my one car garage! Stripped the plaster off, insulated and put up plywood!!
Congratulations Sam! My girlfriend and I also bought out first house a few months ago and your videos have inspired me to take over one of the backyard sheds and make it a small woodworking shop. Can definitely confirm that it's the best of feelings, finally having your place and make it yours with things you build yourself 🙂

Congrats guys! Great news! I see a Mr. Cool sponsorship in your future. Our house is from the same era and we wound up replacing all of the wiring due to aluminum wiring we didn’t like. With one floor and an unfinished basement it’s not too bad if you have to do it.
I’d love that so much! I’m definitely going to be removing the wall units.

Congratulations on the house. Even though the first house fell through, this house was meant to be yours and everything happens for a reason in life. The beauty of cape houses is that there’s so much you can do to them. Many of the homes on LI have been converted. The garage shop is awesome. Long Island!!! Woo hoo! Congratulations and welcome to the world of owning your own home. The best thing of owning your own bone is you can do ANYTHING you want to it. Love making stuff and displaying it around and inside the property. Enjoy! And if we live close enough, introduce yourself by bringing over some sawdust. 🤣
Congratulations! I'm so excited for you! I encourage you to invest in some lead test strips. My partner and I also bought a house from the 1950s and a lot of our plans had to change because we learned our house has been painted with lead paint. Safety first!
Congrats! Well deserved, you folks worked hard for it. My shop is my garage too but we never garage any vehicles in it. Been thinking about replacing the roll up garage door with french doors. Better for lighting and storage space overhead. Mahalo for sharing! : )

Exciting times! That outdoor shower will be awesome for summer time baths for the dogs!! Rafters are nice for extra storage in the shop, too! Go girl! The work never ends as a homeowner but it’s something to be proud of.

Congratulations!! I recently found your channel and have been watching back through the years. It’s so exciting for you to have a place of your own to be working on. No longer having to have a landlord be against having an accent wall or new paint!
(Also look into canless led ceiling lights for your dark hallway without lights. We just put a couple in our low hallway ceilings that also didn’t have ceiling lights and they’re wonderful, and don’t need a ton of space either)
