A reverse thread screw?! No wonder I couldn't get it out! I'm so glad I found this video. "Lifeline phone call to Bob Fowler" - 100% accurate, I just finished an email chain with him.
have just found your chanel. and am loving the detail you put in explaining part manes and how you overcome issues. i’m new to sewing machine refurbishment and rescue and you’re officially my got to angel 😇. fixing cars hobby and handling anaesthesia during surgery comes naturally . but i had no clue where to begin. your calm confidence shines through and experience has given me confidence to start stripping down my many machines . thank you . subbed for life now !!! ❤
A handy hint to know for anyone working on these old Singer machines - if ever the slot in the top of a straight-slot screw does not go all the way across the head of the screw it's very likely that it is a reverse-threaded screw. (I don't know if other manufacturers used the same "code" or if it was something unique to Singer.)
when putting her back together, please show a close-up of each screw! I'm putting one together now and want to make sure I put the right screw in each hole. Can't wait to see her when she is done!
Good tip on the reverse threading. I was trying to remove that same bolt and didn't know about the threading. I stopped because it seemed like I was going to damage it so hopefully I didn't fully strip and can use your tip!
I will never cease to be amazed of how well these old ladies were made. Looking forward to seeing what you do with her. I am particularly interested in how you made an oil wick. I have managed to source some pure wool felt in different thicknesses and have no idea to make and fit one.
The screw that is stripped is different from all others screws on the 66. Because of the rotation of the link, this screw has “left hand” thread. Use the screw as if you are fighting the screw going clockwise. Instantly, it loosens.
I just bought a red eye and I am so excited to get her cleaned and oiled so I can try her out! Im very nervous about taking her apart because I may not get her back together right! How do you recommend cleaning the parts without an electrolysis machine?
When you took the belt guard off it just was so loose Mine is stuck and the screw head is now chew ed up, and it has not moved a bit. I’ve oiled it with kroil a penetrating oil. Any suggestions?
Maybe try heating it up, out in the hot sun, with a hot hair dryer or heat gun. Using with the oil and a screw driver that is sized as wide at the tip of the blade a the slot opening of the screw. Sometimes putting a ratchet or some kind on the shaft for extra leverage. Even using vise grip pliers on the screw driver shaft to get some extra unph. That and patience. Good luck!
I removed the Presser Bar and two big screws on the Take Up Lever. The top one loosened to the left and the bottom loosened to the right. Can you tell me how to remove the Take Up Lever bar please??
Great instructions but it would help for you to do a little study on camera work. When you point the camera at a window, the aperture closes down and makes seeing things in a shadow almost impossible to see. Need some light on the "subject". I have a 99K so this is a big help to me. Thanks.
I was especially interested in your work on the presser bar, but the window light made that area all black. I was so disappointed. Just put an accessory light there, or turn the machine around so the light from the window shows what you are doing.@@prometheansewingmachines

This is exactly what I was looking for, my 66 has been sitting in an outbuilding forever and needs some love. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
You seem to be very comfortable taking your sewing machine completely apart, I'm impressed!

"Gunky welded" I'm using that LOL.

Good to know ☺️
Thank you for the tip I learn something new every day about these machines
The more I watch your videos, the more I think I need to get or of these beauties!💖
Amazing how you take these adorable machines apart and then put back together. Can't wait to see this Rose finished.
Beautiful machine. I’ve been obsessed with these fabulously crafted .
So excited to see this 😊💕
Very interesting! Looking forward to the next video! 😃👍❤
So interesting to see this. Thank you.

Unfortunately I have pre recorded this and made the assembly video a while back. I hope it helps you

Next time I'll try to show that better...

That makes sense! Thanks

Just do one component at a time! I would start with a gojo type hand cleaner and wire brush for cleaning. Also q-tip cotton swabs help. Good luck!

Hi, I'm missing parts. Can't seem to find the pieces 😕
Hello. Do you have a video on how to replace the Take Up Lever on this machine? Mine is broken.
I removed the Presser Bar and two big screws on the Take Up Lever. The top one loosened to the left and the bottom loosened to the right. Can you tell me how to remove the Take Up Lever bar please??
So I can say is watch my take apart videos. I've done several 66's and do it differently most times. Maybe one way will work for you.

I know, I think I just need to re arrange all my work table away from the window... Which is sad because I love the light

@@leroyyorgason3891 I think it's better now in my more recent videos. All a learning process 😀
Could you please let me know the name of that Dremel machine? Thank you.

The angle of view does not show how you do
I must report this to the cinematographer
How do you know it’s a SHE ? ;-)
Because it is VERY complicated.
