  • Welcome to Vanuary day 26 - a video recorded every day in January, from our van. Today we're in Rota, visiting a sherry bodega and anxiously googling sandflies.

    How I loved Quentin’s little mouth covered in sand - adorable. I can’t blame you for being anxious about the sand flies, it isn’t fun being anxious, but this wasn’t a random thing to worry about, it was something you could take action on and I think that is positive, and now you know your dogs will be safe 💕. I recently trained as an EFT/tapping practitioner, and it can be an excellent tool for working through anxiety and stress, especially at times when you can’t take any action such as when you are trying to get to sleep, or on things that you literally can’t control. You really made me laugh when you said you didn’t know if you’d want to edit a bunch of stuff Craig had filmed about sherry, it was just the thought of you going through loads of footage right after you said you really weren’t interested in going and learning the process 😁. Thank you Holly and Craig 💖

      Haha I might have made Craig take charge of the editing! I need to try EFT tapping it sounds like something that could really help for late night spiralling- well done for your training! What a great skill to have.

    I'm enjoying Vanuary so much! I grew up on the same side of Spain and I've been feeling so nostalgic and envious seeing all the buildings and landscapes you're surrounded by (even the Mercadonas!) Hope you have a lovely rest of your time in Spain :)

      @@hollyexley I was born there and lived there for a few years before we moved to England, but my dad stayed there so have been back every year since, it’s so lovely! If you’re ever looking for another area to visit, Calpe and the surrounding towns are beautiful!

    Sorry you were having a lot of anxiety. You remind me of my mum in that she stays up at night due to her spiraling thoughts and she worries over silly things. I get anxious, but I am quite good at shutting my thoughts off when I want to sleep. Except when I am ill and then I lose that super power. I like that Craig is becoming a vlogger and and taking us on some of his little trips. I will really miss Vanuary when it finishes. Looking forward to seeing more videos. xXx

    Holly your concerns are valid- Leishmania is very dangerous for dogs. The can survive but need lifelong medication. Glad you found a solution and are back on your happy way! ❤

    Glad you found the collars for the dogs! I don't know how longer I can stand freaking out about climate change. In Montreal the average temperature for January is -15, celsius, all last week we oscillated around 0 degrees with lots of rain. It's unheard of. We went to Andalusia in 2019 and everyone told us it got hot around June. We were there in May and one day we reached 50 degrees. I've never felt so gross in my life. Unfortunately I have no one around to talk about this, except my husband but there's a limit that he can take with my anxiety... *sigh*

      "I don't know how much longer I can stand freaking out about climate change" - that is RELATABLE. I am so scared for the future. Honestly everything feels like it's hurtling in the wrong direction. * internal screaming *

    I know what you mean about anxiety spiraling. I got obsessed with climate change for a bit. One of my obsessions was birth rates. It still causes me anxiety to think that in some parts of Africa women have six children on average, and that the African population is going to double by 2050. But don't underestimate human adaptability. Many brilliant people are working on solutions to climate change right now. It isn't hopeless. And I don't believe we're doomed.

    • @hollyexley
      @hollyexley  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I like your optimism - you're right, we have all the solutions we need, just need the political will. For me I never worry about population size, it's excessive consumption in the west that stresses me out. Lifting people out of poverty and granting women access to education and economic security will decrease family sizes, it's a win win. It's the billionaires and the greedy, destructive corporations that I want to see gone.

    • @JuneTurner-dt4fb
      @JuneTurner-dt4fb 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree that people in the west must stop being so greedy. But overpopulation IS a major issue. It isn't good enough to keep blaming everything on westerners. Everyone needs to do their bit. People in the west must stop consuming so much, and people in Africa must stop having so many children. In 1900 there were a billion humans. By 1960 that had trebled to three billion. It's now eight billion and heading for ten. It isn't just a question of pollution and consumption. When you jam too many people together, it lowers the quality of life. I live in rural Essex, and the sheer number of people is making me SO stressed and unhappy. My local woods have been hacked down to make way for a horrible housing estate, and at the other end of my village a second (giant) new housing estate is being built. Also, the traffic is so awful I hardly go out. And don't forget that as countries get richer they consume more. If Africa's population doubles to a billion, what will happen when those billion people all want flat screen TVs and new cars and cheap flights? @@hollyexley
