Mr. Katsunori is so good that what ever keyboard he demonstrate, it sounds so good. Now I more confused on which one to buy. I always finish his video demonstration, because he is very informative. More power to you sir.
Cracking review from an accomplished musician - really brought it alive - WOW ! Thank you Mr Katsunori i think that's made my mind up about whether to get this or the Juno DS61 - this sounds fantastic and is very accessible for a beginner to develop with.
Running in stereo is almost mandatory to get these modern keyboards to sound correct. Speakers, amplifiers, powered speakers/mixers all play a role in the sound. Many people look at this as an afterthought. In the studio preamps make a huge difference...I have experienced this with Neve consoles and preamps...experiment as much as you can and use your ears...
I have no idea what you're saying... but I LOVE IT!! I watched the whole video anyway! I LOVE ROLAND... and just got this keyboard (July 16, 2020...still in the box) and can't wait to unbox it later today! I LOVE JAPANESE! Some day I will visit that beautiful country and especially Roland if a factory tour is possible! Used to own a VK-1000... also an A-80, JD 800, a couple Super Have a GP-100 and an Octa Pad.. but the one I wish I still had... my first synth...a Juno 106... really miss that synth! Now I only have this and my Juno DS-88. Thanks for sharing and I love how you speak! Huge fan of Japanese language, culture and of course... Roland, Boss and many other excellent music companies! 😎🎸🎹🤘🐦
Hi i'm a beginner with a Korg Wavestate synth but i'm looking for a first keyboard. Split between buying the VR-09 or the Juno DS61 - any ideas Laz /anybody please ?
@@MusicTherapyLaz Thanks Music Therapy Laz, since i posted that comment i was browsing my local online music store and found the Roland FA 06 - B stock - and did some research on it but i also spoke to the shop and told them my dilemma - i was also looking at the Juno DS61also but kept coming back to the VR 09 until i found the FA 06 at a really good price - it arrives tomorrow ! I told them i had watched a fantastic review and i said " This guy could probably make an elastic band sound really tuneful "....and as someone once said " If only the best birds sang, the woods would be very silent " so keep an ear out for this one !
Sounds brilliant even after all this time. The amazing playing certainly helps of course. All these years later and I'll have mine in a couple of days. I prefer it to a Moog Muse. 😂
fantastic review! would you swap an old solid Fantom X6 for this one? i mainly use for occasional stage performances and home studio use. Are the keys and controllers good as a Fantom X6 one? please let me know if can. many thanks
Great demo as usual! Had the chance to test-drive a VR-09 for a couple of hours, it's a fun machine with lots of useful sounds, basic but decent synthesis options and a selection of features (namely the Looper and audio/song player) that make it a good choice for studio and stage use, and not only if you're a beginner or on a tight budget I might add. Don't hate, try it out and be open-minded, music isn't about gear but creativity and fun. Less is more! :)
Totally agreed. People with an extra tight budget are more likeley to get a budget workstationg than this. I do not know what it is with Roland but it seems most of their products as of late are quite uninspiring, principally the sound of it. I'd rather take a Casio PX-5S
Yeah.., and the VR-09 costs $300 more than the Kross, and is set up exclusively for LIVE play. So it's no surprise to see Roland put those on that unit. Keep in mind the Kross is a "budget workstation" that costs only $699. For that price Korg just blasted Roland's Juno-Di (that sells for $699-which I also own).., and it's going to eat into the sales of Yammies MOX6 series that sells for $1,099, and only has 64 note poly.
Sorry, but if it sounded crappy in person then that's the player and not the synth. If you think this guy makes it sound good it's because he's a skilled keyboardist. The keyboard does sound great.., it takes skill to play a keyboard right. Many keyboards today get knocked based on sound quality when in fact most often it's the lack of talent the individual has that's demoing the thing. Lack of talent/skill can make the most amazing synth sound cheap.
I feel the same, bought one of the recent Juno's. Don't know what the fuzz was about. The piano was terrible. Something Roland were acclaimed for. Thanx for the Casio tip. Will check out.
Roland's problem is they don't advertise what they should about their products. So many scoffed at the Roland Juno-Di, saying it was junk. Many changed their minds after they saw what the software editor turned the Di into. Roland IMO is still making good products, but their marketing and advertising is quite poor. Korg IMO is killing EVERYONE. They are really on their game with their product line (especially with their latest 61 key workstation that's selling for only $699).
Hey my friend. I've been around a long time. And you would be surprised what musicians have brought in professional studios. As lon as it got the job done. I used work at Bostown (Bobby Brown's studio in Atlanta.) The bassline to the song My Perogatve was done with a Casio CZ-101 phase distortion synth by Baby Face. Look it up. nd it's bad as hell. We use what worked. And what appealed to that project. I stil do with my ditgital setup. So you do know what you're talking about.
Ujiie, should've turned down the volume output of VR-09, there was a lot of nasty clipping in that intro jam with the Hammond. Be careful next time, please! :)
Wow, reading some of those old comments. Ray Manzarek played a Vox Continental and made it sound great. Amazing little machine here for the money. I imagine great for just trying out stuff. Crappy video sound quality though; not what I expect from Ujiie.
I'm not very impressed by this keyboard. It seems to have GM voices with some patchs! Nothing new with this Roland, and the keys are noisy! But anyway, as always, a very good demo from the Master!
Doesnt look that impressive to me to be honest. Looks like my Juno Gi can pretty much do much if not all of the same, the only differences being the tonewheel like organ layout and Supernatural sound capability.
I thought that the Organ sound was a somewhat weak. Still the Amp effect is good enough to compensate a little. Yet the overall concept is a ripoff of the great Nord Stage series.
I agree with Juan Lessey. The KB are cheap. Looking for a keyboard to midi with my Tyros 4. Tried NV P80 a peace of junk (bostick and plastic) a insult to my Tyros 4. Some notes have spaces in-between that emphasize cheap manufacturing The P80 not for average player. It is for a highly intelligent music novice. To memorise all the sounds and styles in the dial is impossible. Memory is useless, Load a style from your stick takes for ever. The keyboard gives a impression of a $1 calculator
the reason I said that is because the VR-09 is a pretty shitty roland, just like all the current rolands(aside from the jupiter 80 series, which is the only good thing roland has released in a while) Korg has been kicking roland's ass. Did you see the new 303 clone they made? Someone at Roland deserves to be fired.
Overall the three big ones (Korg, Yamaha and Roland) are making "low quality" relatively inexpensive keyboards. Only by looking the Kross you can tell it's a very cheap synth, at least in terms of fabrication and materials, the same goes to Yamaha's MX line and even MOX 6. In the end none of them is taking a big step in making a really good overall quality keyboard, at least in the $600 to $1000 price range. For me all of them can be good or bad depending on the buyer's personal and unique needs.
This is probably my favourite demo of a synth ever. That's a proper musician right there.
Mr. Katsunori is so good that what ever keyboard he demonstrate, it sounds so good. Now I more confused on which one to buy. I always finish his video demonstration, because he is very informative. More power to you sir.
+edgardo crespo You're not kidding. He's awesome. Talked (TEE-HEE) me into buying this one over the Yamaha.
Whether or not you like this keyboard, this is an awesome demo.
Amazing! A great demonstration and playing. Looks fun!
English sub-title is available now ;)
Without English sub-titles your demos are always the most useful on youtube - keep it up!
You' ve sold me one VR 09 ;-) Great demo, thank you Katsunori
Cracking review from an accomplished musician - really brought it alive - WOW ! Thank you Mr Katsunori i think that's made my mind up about whether to get this or the Juno DS61 - this sounds fantastic and is very accessible for a beginner to develop with.
Melhor apresentação encontrada na internet! Mostrou os detalhes! Parabéns.
Ok I'll take my time using all that this board has to offer.😮
Running in stereo is almost mandatory to get these modern keyboards to sound correct. Speakers, amplifiers, powered speakers/mixers all play a role in the sound. Good for woolly bully watch it now 😮
Very good alternative to lug my Hammond SK2 to every small gig and rehearsal. Great demo Katsunori, of what really matter: the sounds!!
TOP DEMO ! Great Master of Keyboards. Katsunori is the Greatest.😘
毎回楽しみにしています。 ごきげんです。イマジネーションをかきたてられます。

Hi i'm a beginner with a Korg Wavestate synth but i'm looking for a first keyboard. Split between buying the VR-09 or the Juno DS61 - any ideas Laz /anybody please ?
@Twiglet 22 the VR-09 is really a fantastic performance keyboard... with the added port for quick sound uploads, it's hard to beat for the money!
UJIIE putting some mojo on a fernbar wedding party synth.

excellent presentation
Good !! いつもたのしみにしています!
Domo arigato. Very useful review.

Great demo.
is it the onboard leslie effect? sounds so good here..
Katsunori is the best Keyboarder! Thank you !😂

At first I thought he was playing the Windows XP Installation Music hehe...
Great demo. Even if I couldn't understand a word.

Master Katsunori, Arigatooooooo!!!
Thanks a lot, very helpful!
Don't understand a word you say, but I love your demo's.you play so well, and make these things sing. Thank you for posting.
Ujiee-san Magic did it again!
C'est vraiment tres fort, un excellent morceau de musique en moins de 4 minutes !
Katsunori is a keyboard hero ! ;)
Totally agreed. People with an extra tight budget are more likeley to get a budget workstationg than this. I do not know what it is with Roland but it seems most of their products as of late are quite uninspiring, principally the sound of it. I'd rather take a Casio PX-5S
Fingers crossed for namm 2014 when roland has a return to analog.
Yeah.., and the VR-09 costs $300 more than the Kross, and is set up exclusively for LIVE play. So it's no surprise to see Roland put those on that unit. Wooow, this shit was funky as hell!
bravo monsieur excellent demo

Hey, man you play great! Love that tasty groove the video starts with. Nice B-3!
great demo
muito bom...! Excelente teclado profissionalíssimo !
Nice synth. Any news about price?
BEST.DEMO.EVER.
what he didn't demonstrate is "organ leakage" - something unique in VR09, but totally useful
The new Kross (61 key version) is going for $699. There's even an 88 key weighted hammer version for $999.
Does this unit have an arpeggiator?
this synth / keyboard must be special, anything about it at the NAMM 2013 !!!!
Sounds pretty crappy in person, but this guy is magic, he managed to make it sound pretty good. He is truly a master.
Maybe not in a professional studio but it's good enough for an all-purpose keyboard in a typical amateur bedroom studio.
トランジスタオルガンにはVOXとFARFISA、両方入っていますか??
keyboard sounds OK for transportable live solution, on par with Hammond SK1.
and keyboardist got skills!
is there a cp80 patch
Fabulous playing and sounds!
Ignore the knockers, who bought something inferior for more money and have buyer's remorse... Lol!
Hahaha, it sure is a beauty even after all this time.
I feel the same, bought one of the recent Juno's. Don't know what the fuzz was about. The piano was terrible. Something Roland were acclaimed for. Thanx for the Casio tip. Will check out.
Is the VR-09 alone in this price range to do all these things ? Mox maybe ?
is there a transpose option on the front panel?
Yes
Can you strum guitar on that to get that "strum" effect like when you strum on a guitar chord say for rhythm guitar?
Which KORG workstation @ $699 were you referring to?
How much
Hi, Mr. Katsunori.
I know you know english. Please, could you tell me if VR-09 has Super Natural Piano sounds?
Roland's problem is they don't advertise what they should about their products. So many scoffed at the Roland Juno-Di, saying it was junk. once again proves its the user, not the tools

Plastic 2000's Roland is no Vox Continental. So much cheaply made desperation gear now. Race to the bottom.
a cheaper alternative to this is Casio XWP1 or XWG1 ( sampler )
You’d be giving up a lot unless it’s just to have personal fun with. This is just an opinion but perhaps a common one though.
somehow, I understood everything he said. Am I Japanese ? Oh no.....wait...... I think I have to put down this bottle of Night Train booze.
can i edit the sound without own ipad ?
No, you can't.
english subtitles please! :)
No drawbars on the Kross.
最高!
interesting
it is definately useable live... i would rather have a jupiter8 and a kronus however!
eu so canto gosp goste muito de guitara e violão e teclado as pena que eu
não cei toca teclado mais eu vou a prende sim coserteza
I'm not very impressed by this keyboard. It seems to have GM voices with some patchs! Nothing new with this Roland, and the keys are noisy!

All these Roland employees jumping on here to defend themselves from the psychotic giraffe...
They already lost even that second thing you mention.

Roland already lost it´s superb quality in hardware and it is about to loose the reception of what real musicians may need in the future.
