  • Domenico Scarlatti (1660-1725) wrote 555 cataloged sonatas during his life. The sonatas are chronological by number and are all in single movements of either binary or early sonata form. His works are typical baroque-style music with very tight repeating structures and a focus on simplicity. The baroque period certainly demarcates a new philosophy surrounding music that had been developed during Rennessaice - a belief held even today - that music can be deeply expressive. Scarlatti's music comes from a time when this belief was still new and modern. Music during this period was written mainly as dance or religious music and almost exclusively with a noble or aristocratic audience in mind.
