And so here I am Fede. I was craving for a video like this from you! That sound and your hands crafting it are the main, maybe the only, reason I fell into this analog electronic hole. Seeing you playing that very stuff live in Williamsburgh totally opened my mind, and transformed my perception of electronic music, from something I grow up listening to, into something I can make on my own! And now, fast forward an year or so from that evening, I'm waiting for my freshly purchased Avalons, wachting and enjoying this video, while thinking at all of the stuff I'm gonna make out of them. That's a true turning point for me, from a pure listener to a wannabe producer, and that, once again, thanks to you Federico and to your wonderful wonderful signature Avalon sound. Hope to see a "Functions part 2" sometimes in the future!

Yeah, not all Acid has resonance turned up to 11, but its still Acid. You guys should check out Aquaregia Records and especially their artists 747 and Tin Man for those slow beautiful low resonance 303 lines.
I watch your videos repeatedly, and the ones containing the Avalon obsessively. An hypnotic 303 sound is the most amazing sound to have ever existed. I've found a Avalon for £3303 which is hilarious as they were cheeky enough to add the 303 but I'm so tempted to save with hope it will still be available in a few months lol. I'll never understand why these companies don't produce more, the damand is obviously there.

As far as I am aware there will be no more Avalons preorder runs in the future, because Brian can't find all the needed components anymore. I guess there will be some units going up for sale once he starts delivery the new units next year, but I can easily see prices skyrocketing in the second hand market

Man, I'm really torn because I want to get in on the final run, but the deal breaker is the availability of those SEM carts. If they were guaranteed another run as well I'd pre-order in a heartbeat. just a heads up, idk if I'm too late, but Abstrakt did a run that shipped in Dec. 2023 according to their web store, and they sold out, so no luck on that, but all 3 filter carts are in stock at MSRP. hope that helps, from an owner who ignores his unit myself :\

I love my Avalon, but I have to say the ladder filter is the least interesting of the alternate filters. However the 2044, SEM and OTA filters are amazing.
I tinker with synths as a hobby, I’m by no means a musician, but I’m learning more and more every day. I have seen the Avalon before, and it really does seem to be the most refined 303. What you are doing here with the FX makes it sound superb, turns the harsh acid into something so ambient, sets the foundation for a real sound scape! I will likely never own an Avalon, but I’m strongly considering buying Behringer’s TD-3-MO, when it’s available (3 month wait at the mo’). Have you yourself seen/heard this new 303 clone, it’s essentially the Behringer 303 with the Devil Fish mod’s built in, extra dials and buttons etc. I would be interested in your thoughts, what do you think?

Is there any alternative options? Is there a pedal combo with a Behringer td-3 mo or a Eurorack alternative that gives that plastikman sound but analogue style?
@@OoraMusic I own a Behringer td-3, Behringer crave, and Roland TR-8s. I noticed the quality of the, TR-8s instantly and this gave me a thirst for higher end equipment. But I've found a great Eurorack option which I'm going to build. Would like a Roland TB-03 but heard it's no way near as good as the 303 and the td-3 is as good. I guess I'll have to collect them all 😁
i had a rev.1 Avalon, problems, and Brian at abstrakt is not known for good communication. i prefer Behringer TD3 now, because it's cheap and easy to replace if problem happens.

I do have to wonder if one of the cheaper 303 wouldn’t sound the same with a lot of delay and resonance. This one does seem to have some nice options tough.
Inspired by this video I routed my behringer TD3 through my timeline delay and ventris reverb and was instantly in space. The company is bad but honestly for under 200 Clams it’s one of the best synths you can get your hands on.
@@FuZZbaLLbee I hate the onboard interface (the original 303 sequencer) so I sequence everything in my studio with my mpc live including the TD3. I like to use some of the mpcs cool sequencer tools like the arp and pattern generator which can include accents and glides. I also input notes in real-time with my midi keyboard which also adds accents based on the velocity of the keys. So to answer your question yes you can. It does definitely take away some of the “happy accident” fun that the 303 sequencer is known for and it’s not very hard to learn to use but I pretty much don’t use the onboard sequencers on any of my gear as like I mentioned everything is connected to the mpc live which has a bunch more options and performance tools.
There are SMT components that do not affect the sound, and those that make it sound like crap. It is up to the engineer to know where, which, and how to use SMTs.
@@OoraMusic i wanted it but since he is not answering emails me and others sent to him and the contact button on the website was giving error for more than one year, it made me worry what will happen if there will be problems. writing on the website the os update is the "latest one" like he doesn't want to do that any more (and after less than one year) is also suspicious. he never came clean about all that (not that i know of) i'm also interested in the vs-1, but if he will not explain what happen it will be hard for me to trust him.

honestly 3k for it seems a rip off. Is a great tool but maybe you can find similar products, check the norand mono!

Yes it is at the upper tier with Dinsync, but goes one more and adds some extra features.

plenty of options. Behringer td3 the cheapest, the there is the bassbot, the Roland boutique one , the re303... plenty of clones!

What's up with the clicks on the slides?
those are part of my signature sound. Are created by the envelope generator and i use them a lot as a rythmic device.

The best clone!! Watch out though when switching filter cards, especially when that filter is active, better switch of your avalon first 😉

@@JUNO-69 can you program the glides and accents on an other sequencer, and just change the filters settings on the device itself, while it’s playing?
