I bought it. Personally I really like it. I was sceptical from all the videos so I just went to store, tested it there and liked what I've seen. THIS IS NOT AN EBOOK READER - if you're expecting that you might be very disappointed, what this is, it's a TABLET first with very special screen adjusted for reading, if it wasn't obvious enough from all the video reviews. It's a screen with milky soft matte colors and light that goes easy on your eyes, so it's more enjoyable for reading than rest of the tablet lcd screens, but at the end of the day it's still a tablet and not an e-ink. It's especially great if you're a comic books fan, if you're that I would say go for it, but as for standard books, don't rush into it. Just because I like it, might not be the case for everyone, so if you're reading this and were like me, going over dozen of TH-cam videos to see should you threw your money into this.. I really suggest you find a way to look at it first in the store on something. I like it but it's not for everyone.
just got it with a black friday lightning deal on amazon for 180. Also own a nova 3, and a note air 2 plus and so far I really like it. Sometimes you just get tired of how limited a epaper device is.
The issue for me is I don't get any benefit of sunlight readability. It looks great in moderately lit environments but outside it will either be unreadable or chew through battery in no time.
Wow, I'm glad that I stumbled up this tablet. I just bought a Kindle Scribe. I am going to return it as I have a smaller Kindle Paperwhite. This TCL Nxtpaper 11 will serve me better.
I own another model by TCL with the same screen, NXTPAPER 12 PRO, and I can assure you the readability is more than good. It's by no means compared to e-ink, but you can clearly see everything in the room full of windows when it's sunny outside.
The reading experience looks quite nice for an LCD, and honestly I think I'd very much prefer this to an iPad. And considering at it's current price point of $239 it's even cheaper than picking up a discounted last gen iPad, plus comes bundled with the pen, seems like a solid deal if one isn't specifically looking for e-ink.
Agree! After watching e-ink development for a couple years, I pulled the trigger on this device. With the money I saved I can justify replacing this with an actual e-ink tablet in a couple years when that technology may be ready for prime time.
If you're using an iPad for reading, why limit yourself to a last gen model? Especially considering ipads get supported for multiple years. You could even get a refurbished mini 4th gen for under $230. I saw an Air 2 for under $150(Best Buy US prices).
Despite the misleading title of "epaper", I bought the nxtpaper 11 two days ago and I love it. The eye comfort mode and reading mode makes this tablet a really affordable ereader (200 euros in my local shop). I mainly read art books so I really like the colour without experiencing eye strain. Waiting for the pen to arrive today. Yes I love iPads and e-readers (I had an onyx boox max 2 in the past), but this nxtpaper 11 feels right for me. I think it should be considered seriously and not dismissed straight away. In my opinion the manufacturer have made an effort to make the screen comfortable, it's not just an LCD tablet with a Matt screen protector slapped on it. Perhaps TCL will consider renaming the product and this tablet should be considered for its own merits. It may not appeal to everyone but this tablet offers me some benefits that neither an iPad pro or an e-reader can offer. In addition the lower price tag makes it an attractive option.
i have a dual display watch from mobvoi, and am wondering when will we get something similar for the epaper scene? LCD could light up only for adding color, light or fast contents, but when in epaper mode, the display now sips battery juice.
Looks pretty interesting. I'll start my masters in 2 weeks and I think this TCL will be good to read books with colorful charts and of course it has a great advantage of taking care of our eyes during loooong coursework ✌
Can you tell me if this is different than having a matte screen protector on an iPad? I genuinely didn’t understand the differences between this and normal LCD tablets with say a matte screen protector
So it's an IPS LCD tablet that has a grayscale mode... amazing.... But OK, the screen blocking that much light is sure nice - but could you please test it under real sunlight conditions? Can you actually use this in bright daylight? Because that is what I expect from anything calling itself "e-paper" or "e-ink".
This could actually be a good replacement for my Boox reader. It's still working ok for the most part, but it's showing it's age. I'd like some color sometimes. Comics are not as fun without color :)

It just really seems like a normal tablet with a mattish screen protector on it. On my eReaders I always like to invert the Black and white to be even easier on my eyes because my eyes are super sensitive after having cataract surgery on both my eyes.

I'm not convinced yet. I am looking at an e-reader for the ease on my eyes, weight, and paper feel with the ability to make notes, E-ink still feels like the right way to go, e-colour is catching up IMO, an excellent review.
Do you have a comparison of the NXTPaper 11 screen vs the screen of a Samsung Tab vs the screen of a Wacom tablet? I am in the decision making process what would be better to purchase as graphic tablet for reading comics AND drawing them using the device as graphic tablet for PC. The option to have a standalone device, which CAN be paired to use as a pen input device for PC is intriguing.
It was interesting to see this especially I'm in a tough choice now between or a ink colour tablet or a simple tablet so thank you for such a good work
If you want sunlight readability while also being able to watch videos the Eyemoo S1 is really great. I love my BOOX Nova Air C but for browsing the Eyemoo wins.
@@lukastux3024 ePaper (not eInk) is a rather loosely used term that I usually saw for LCD technology so for me it's the same. What TCL calls ePaper is a normal LCD where they reduced reflections it seems. Real eInks biggest difference is that it's pretty slow

Seeing non e-paper devices making an effort to be less aggressive on the eyes is a good step forward.

This could actually be a good replacement for my Boox reader. It's still working ok for the most part, but it's showing it's age. I'd like some color sometimes. Comics are not as fun without color :)

How is the reflectivity outside? I am not sure the LCD is good for my use
Supposedly it uses a transflective display which would look great in sunlight... but I can't for the life of me find anybody actually testing it!
