    To those who still want to enjoy live-service games like Apex but the game and its developers are suffering from corporate greed, it's best to give these games a break, and move onto other games on your backlog. It's important to remember that games are meant to be fun, not $20 cosmetics. ♥️

      This is exactly what I did, I need 1 live service game to taking a break from Apex. I tried BO6, Delta Force, and MR. With BO6 and DF I couldn't find the same gunplay feeling I had with Apex. So I tried Marvel Rivals, and it feels so good because in my mind it's not a FPS. And for AAA game I played Indiana Jones.

    My go-to refresher when I'm not feeling Apex lately had been Deep Rock Galactic. An older game, with a free season battle pass system, no paid content beyond small cosmetic packs, regular large updates, responsive and charismatic devs, and all content from past events fully unlockable for free just by playing. It's collaborative, the community is amazing and positive, no one ever talks about the game dying... It's really the exact opposite of what Apex has become, and I love it. Just pure fun, with as much challenge as you want thanks to the robust difficulty settings and balanced loadout options

      DE has revealed more than once that their developers don't play the games they make. In the demo video, the developers didn't know the character values, didn't know the game difficulty, and finally completed the demo by cheating. Warframe has the problem of too high difficulty, and the game has been monetized. Although there is still a way to get all the equipment in the game, DE has become a developer who sells skins. They will launch a skin every once in a while instead of fixing the bugs in the game and filling in the story content.

    • @Lord-Irkalla
      @Lord-Irkalla 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      @@GeometryEX-hp9zs The game is not hard at all lol, and actually yes, the devs DO play their game. They actually stream themselves playing it with fans more than once a week. They do fix bugs, and even recently just left one in the game because the players loved it. All the skins in game can be earned for free too anyway through trading for platinum with other people. They aren’t trying to just make money off skins. If they wanted to make money off of cosmetics, they wouldn’t have removed their randomized kubrow generation. You used to be able to pay money for that and it was the only way to get an appearance you eventually liked. They removed it because a player spent too much money on it and that sickened them.

    I think the core issue with apex right now is that the higher ups at EA and Respawn think that the players consider skins and other expensive cosmetics “content” instead of balance changes,
    new LTM’s and weapons. What Merchant said about rust focusing on making a good game and the money coming in later would happen for apex as well if they could focus on improving the game instead of giving us cosmetics nobody really asked for.

      I think the balance changes have been part of the issue too, though. They've made so many balance changes to every legend, ability, weapon, etc that ranked is probably as balanced as it could be. Team comp matters just enough that you can play who you really want to and get pretty far, but certain legends are just going to do better towards the end. But pubs, where a large chunk of the player base comes from (casuals) should be separately balanced, in my opinion. Otherwise they're the same game mode with or without RP. Pubs gets harder for no reason, and casuals are driven away

    • @Icfish.
      @Icfish. 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Exacly what im saying, skins and heirlooms amd all those collection events are not "real" content that retains a big amount of players

    • @edwardchester1
      @edwardchester1 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We're well past a few weapons and LTMs making the difference. Without Fortnite levels of mad new weapons/equipment to really shake up the meta every season (which will only help so much) the game needs a major reset to make it more approachable for casuals. It either needs to make the BR more BR-like again, where looting/weapon choice really matters and players are far squishier and more vulnerable (so triple red teams can't just ape you but instead have to approach cautiously in order not to get one-clipped [shield swaps need to go too]) or it needs to have a proper deathmatch mode (i.e. like other movement shooters such as Quake) with server performance that isn't terrible like in Control. All that and it probably still needs to get a handle on the extent of movement exploits and recoil compensation that are possible. Players have spoken. They don't want to "get good" and spend hours learning all this stuff, they want to play and have fun, which is why they left.

You always seem to find a way to be positive, and even if it doesnt feel like I should be happy or just let go, its not like ill benefit from being negative. And thats not just something that just applies to gaming, but in everything we do apart from that. Life would be so much better, if we just focused on ourselves, rather than trying to control outward things that we will never be able to control. My problem with apex is that they’ve made it almost impossible to get rewarded for sticking around and playing. They’ve increased the amount of crafting mats you get but are only putting out milestone events where you can’t even use them. Legend tokens are useless and most people have 600k+ of them. There’s no leveling up your character and the gun progression system is a joke. Plus they keep raising the price of everything which makes people not even want to buy anything anymore bc they feel like they’re being taken advantage of. On top of all that, I’m so tired of being forced into game modes and LTMs I don’t want to play. Yes they should have LTMs but not takeovers of the pub playlist where they bring broken alternators and “relic” weapons so I can’t even enjoy a normal game mode. All in all, I’m glad I’ve stop playing this game as much as I used to, I really only play when I’ve beaten a single player campaign or just need to scratch that FPS itch, which usually ends up with me playing 3-5 games and calling it a day bc the matchmaking is horrible.

Games no longer feel good because the people in charge of where the resources go are here because it’s LUCRATIVE. Not because they love games. I really hope my dreams happen, because I want to make my own company, make my own games and build myself from the top. And never sell out. I've never understood this recent phenomena of only playing one game. Growing up I would swap a PS2 game every 2 weeks. Games had an ending and when you got bored you moved onto the next one. I do think some content creators are as much to blame as the greedy corporations as they too are financially dependent on the game they chose to promote. Too many gamers act like shareholders nowadays. If your bored, go play something else it's not that complicated.

I'm having so much fun with it that I didn't mind spending some real money on it here and there because there's real passion there, and the Devs are so communicative with the community and take on their ideas. Build a meaningful game that people will enjoy, put in the work to interact positively with the community, and the profits will follow. Helldivers and now Rivals have become the perfect examples of this.

I hope this isn’t just a temporary thing, that everything wrong with gaming might actually just get better now. Instead of being addicted to games, actually playing games that make us happy, and supporting people who just want to give us a good experience.

    I think Valve is in one of the most unique, and greatest positions as a game development studio, because they own Steam. They don't need to over produce and over monetize their games, because Steam gets money off of games other people buy. This allows them to invest into amazing projects like Deadlock.

    After getting burned out on Apex, I finally tried the indie games I had in my backlog and I absolutely fell in love with Neon White. It's a fast-paced, FPS, platformer with global leaderboards that really scratches the competitive movement shooter itch. In the spirit of what this video is spotlighting, it's a feature-complete game made by a small, passionate team. Not sure how many people are looking for genuine recommendations here since Marvel Rivals is the talk of the town at the moment, but I cannot recommend Neon White enough.

    Very much appreciate the common sense attitude you share in this video. You're not ripping at the throats of game developers who actually are still trying to make games like Apex fun. At the same time you're not even scolding high level execs and producers. You're really just giving a truth on the industry that is unfortunate, but no less true.
    Part of the issue with games these days is game dev teams are split into way too many people. "Too many cooks spoil the stew". Dedicated game designers have no clue of how to program and have ideas that are obscure and can't be copied easily making it difficult to make big scale games. Take Pokemon, you only need to program one Pokemon then you can just adjust the values to make 300 more with spreadsheets. Yet each one still felt unique! This is the power of having designers that also understand programming and game engines.
    This is so important to me since I went to school for game design and very few of my peers cared about hard skills. They wanted to be idea people. It doesn't really work like that. You need to understand how the engine works to come up with creative ideas that don't take one year of prototyping and polishing to make.

    Something I feel is often missed in these conversations is how the development of consumer-grade development tools and larger distribution platforms allows more passionate people than ever to produce games.
    I don't think we have even gotten close to a gaming golden age. If we have it has been the last half-decade or so. New genres, spiritual successors to classics, and always new pools of talent working their way up. All while the funders that stifled the industry are losing their grip slowly but surely.

    Answering your question at the end : I've been recently enjoying playing frostpunk and Cyberpunk 2077. Frostpunk is extremely fun, because in every playthrough i can try new strategies, make challenges for myself to complete the game. Cyberpunk, on the other hand , is a really fun game. It has so many possibilities and the story can be altered to your likings and most of all it is as the devs advertised where your decisions affect the game. The dialogs and actions you decide on will affect your playthrough in many ways.

    Content creators (CCs) play a big role in why gaming feels less exciting nowadays. They strip away the joy of discovery-the thrill of figuring things out on your own. Instead, within hours of a game’s release, we’re flooded with guides, tier lists, and meta strategies that tell players the “right” way to play. This fast-tracks the experience, leaving little room for personal exploration or creativity.
    Some might say, “Just don’t watch those videos,” but their influence is everywhere. Even if you avoid them, their ideas shape the community, dictate the meta, and steer conversations. This standardizes how games are played, where only the “optimal” strategies or builds feel acceptable, making everything predictable and, frankly, boring.
    Worse, developers often cater to these loud, influential voices, patching and balancing games based on feedback from a small, vocal subset of players. This can alienate those who just want to enjoy the game their own way, without feeling pressured to conform to what CCs say is best.
    I’m not saying CCs are bad; they’ve done a lot to grow gaming communities. But their impact has shifted gaming from something you actively discover to something you passively consume. If we want to bring the excitement back, we need to focus on playing games for ourselves, experimenting, and finding joy in the unknown-before everything is reduced to a checklist.

    Rust is a great example of a game that balances monetization and still being pro player. Yes, the game does monetize skins and some DLC that is definitely p2w, but they are constantly updating the game each month and seem to listen to player feedback. I played Apex for a few hundred hours and while I really liked it, the skill gap was rough and I just never felt like I progressed all that much. Shame that the game is going downhill because of greed, but I agree that gaming will be better for it if such greed leads to companies learning their game will suffer for it.

    A game I always go back to every year or two is 7 Days to Die. My friends and I dump around 100 hours or so each into it over a month, and then go do other things. When we come back, the levelling system, or the map or other things have been changed making the game feel fresh once again without costing us anything more. I also went back recently and replayed Borderlands 2 as it's simply one of the best looter shooters around despite being over 12 years old. Currently playing Code Vein. As someone who's not really into souls like games it's a struggle at times, but I'm enjoying it. People need to just stop preordering. Stop getting drawn in by the hype. Go play something fun and wait and see if the big new thing is actually any good before you spend anything. Until enough people do so the larger companies will continue to do as little as they can while demanding as much as they can from the customers.
