- Part 2 clip from HBO's Real Sports program. Basically, stupid parents are trying to take all failure and disappointment out of childhood, inevitably leading to a harsh wake up call in the future when they find out that everything is no longer sunshine, pretty colors, and...air hugs. This video caused me to lose any faith in humanity I once had.
Get rid of GPAs while you are at it
Life is a competition!
Pleas you might as well get rid of hrades and different levels,of college degrees
Grades and getting hit with a rubber ball are not the same thing. It's like comparing apples and oranges. They're not the same.
I can't believe they edited out Joey the pro lmao that was the best part of this whole episode!
"the no touching policy is suppose to prevent accidents from ever happening"....There are always going to be accidents regardless of being touched or not?
Oh my god. I heard the "they don't tag person because it's too rough, they step on their shadow" and I died a little inside. I hope this revolution BS isn't still going on.
Fucking *FACEDESK*
i'm just flabbergasted by the 2 videos. no dodgeball, no tag/freeze tag, no musical chairs....hell, i bet they dont even play STEAL THE BACON anymore. i'ma 80s baby, and i grew up on these staples of elementary school. i turned out just fine. dodgeball taught me i need to keep my head on a swivel so i dont get beamed from all directions. and if i failed @ something, i'd always try again, so that i could get better at it. i had fun playing these games too, too bad these kids wont ever find out.
Setting these kids up for failure
learn from your mistakes a wise man once said
WELL HOW ARE YOU GOING TO LEARN ANYTHING WITHOUT MISTAKES
I remember we played games at recess in elementary school where we tackled and body checked each other (tackle football, kill the carrier, etc), and where we would play butts up, but the peg or red ass version where you'd throw the ball at the catcher (behind the teachers backs of course, but still). I bet a lot of people on this forum had similar experiences. They're good at toughening you up a little, and I wished I appreciated it more when I was a kid.
Shame these kids are being pussified.
If you never actually do anything, you can never fail! weeeeeee!
I'm interested how you're supposed to develop skills and confidence doing nothing, and how you're supposed to entertain a bunch of kids with the most boring games ever.
Dodgeball and tag? I wish they'd allow snowball fights in school.
That PC school with shadow tag and no touch seems like a horrific place with no sense of reality. I loved dodgeball as a kid, and I wasn't even good at it. I was always amoung the first half of the group to get out.
It seems that each day, I'm more and more embarrassed to be an American. And it's thanks to people like these (who want to ban winners/losers, dodgeball, and touching).
Lol...."wussification"
Dodgeball is a recess game. Gym class is still a CLASS in school. And you're supposed to learn things in class. Recess is for playing. I don't think it should be banned, but I think it's important to have kids playing games that promote skill development. And I don't mean metaphorically "being hit with balls to prepare you for life challenges." There are other ways to foster this idea... In constructive activities. No touching is completely ridiculous, though. Way over the top.
Being competitive isn't fair. There can only be one winner. Losing a game of musical chairs will damage the fragile self esteem of the children. Only the strong will survive mentality.. Dodge ball. Yes, we hit the worst players. Not to be mean, because they were easy targets. When I got tagged, it made me try harder and to become a better player. Animals hunt the old and the weak. Easy prey. Without failure, there is no success.
what doesnt kill you makes you stronger... life lesson of the day.
I just want to say something so we have to look down at the showdow during shadow tag? HOW IN THE WORLD ARE WE GONNA SEE WHERE WERE GOING BIG BRAIN
The kids in these schools are going to grow up to be the most physically and emotionally soft adults imaginable. Mainly like Neil Williams.
i couldn't even imagine 4th-6th grade without Dodgeball and Keep Away
BALLOON TOSSING?!?!?!? I just threw up a little
At school I play a form of dodge ball but its called 3 pins. It is called this because to win you have to shoot a basket, knock all three pins down, or get all the players out by hitting them with a ball that is super-duper soft. To get someone out you have to hit them below the shoulder. I dont understand how dodge ball is bad. Someone please explain!
the idea that you cant even high-five your own friends in your school is the most schocking to me. the high-five is one of the most american gestures ever created. that lady really needs to get laid and fast.
I agree the first time some yells at them or touch them they freak out and start killing or they lose at a game and someone rejects them they kill them or self. All I can say is keep your wussy kid from mind. We play rough in my house and my kid is taught you fall off you bike you get up and keep on going. so if you don't want kid to get tagged, get hit with the dodge ball to tackled in football or a hug or high five stay away. we raising strong boy and girl to be strong men and women over here
I was in a Catholic elementary school. It's definitely no better.
I almost never comment on youtube...but this is just sad. Teaching kids to behave this way is sending them a message that life will be a smooth path free of distress and humiliation. They will ultimately end up with bad coping skills and not ever know how to deal with real problems. Manic depression? Suicide? Wake up people! I seriously feel like throwing up watching this crap!
Dude, this is bull shit!
If my kids have to do that bull shit shadow tag, no rope jump rope, air 5s, and all that bull shit - I'm going to home school them and have them lift weights and be competitive.
i lost braincells from this
truly "touching"...
Why don't the pro's adpot this. I scored a TD, air five me. Imagine boxers jumping 'rope' with no rope. Jumping rope strengthens your cordination. Failing is a part of life.. Whats next.. Riding a imaginary bike?
They predicted Covid 19
we call dodgeball revengeball
I lol'd.
I thought this well over a decade ago and I believe this now: this piece reeked of some "Brave New World" stink. Supporting Pro-Social behavior that in affect was truly a form of fascism. A major part about life (especially careers) is about competition and to not children used to them will screw them up when they enter the adult world.
How does this concept help AT ALL! Its making kids fragile and weak, the kids will end up being wusses and failures. Think about it, there will always be winners and losers in life, they will be hurt emotionally and physically once in a while and they need these experiences. The more they get used to such things the more hurt they will be when they fail.
And seriously no touch policy? When has a hand shake, hug, or pat on the back ever hurt anybody? Never? I thought so.
this is the desocialization of a new generation. Shame on you all.
No wonder these kids have issues :(
what would happen if these kids joined the military? shoot with air guns or something? And isn't giving everyone a trophy communism?
@ 4:44 I punched my iPad thank Godiva
I've met grown adults who can't bare to be touched by others. They are usually lonely isolationists with severe social problems.
Now I know where they came from.
@PurpleShades1 Agnostic?
lolz!!!!
this is so full of crap. I want 2 play jump rope with rope, I want musicla chairs, I WANT DODGEBALL!!! How can u teach kids that losing is ok & we learn from our mistakes. How can we teach kids that if you get knocked down, you need to pick yourself up and dont give up.
Weak kids
