While it is important to know and appreciate different gardens and the way our senses react to them, it is also very important to cultivate a garden based on one’s own taste and circumstances. I live in a hot, humid, rainy country a few degrees north of the equator, so I have built a plant heavy wet garden. It is, I like to say, dense and immersive. Since our house is a small terrace house at the end lot, space is small but sufficient for large bamboo trees and a large oval path for walking meditation. We live in an automobile-dense society. Each house on our street, and generally, has 3-4 cars, and the roads are clogged everywhere. The plant walls of the garden set a nice boundary from the tire and cement world, and permit a micro dose of forest bathing. No matter what your garden, may it provide restoration and gladness. The garden is, after all, where humans and nature can compromise and dance in harmony.
