  • Let's learn how to grow lavender plants from cuttings. Propagating lavender plants is so easy from softwood cuttings, especially if you root them in sand. You'll usually see roots within a month and you can take many cuttings off of one plant so your lavender stock will multiply exponentially! The big bonus is that this plant attracts hummingbirds to your garden!

    Last year I had to prune back a big lavender that had grown out to block a path. I didn't want to waste the prunings & had great success rooting them getting over 30 plants from that adventure. I was the Lavender Santa giving out plants to friends & family & planting more myself. Thanks for your cheerful, helpful vids.

    I do this with almost every type of plant. It works almost always and many times I don't even use rooting hormone. Amazing how many beautiful plants you can own this way. And watching them grow gives you so much love and satisfaction.

      I just dip my cuttings in a bit of honey or cinnamon to give them food and keeps them from rotting before growing roots. Every little cutting that grows into a new plant makes my heart smile.

    One thing you should do at this stage and that is to snip off the end tip, that will make the plant send out more side shoots, if you leave them at this stage the plant will grow up as a single long stem. Chris B.

    I made the cobbler with my son Kieran, huge success! Found a measuring jug with 'cups' on it and used 4ozs of butter for the cube/stick. Only had pineapple rings in the cupboard but tasted great! Kieran couldn't wait to cool it and cut a piece straight away, just like when a kid!
    He poured double cream over it but would go well with English Custard or ice cream Certainly not a crumble 😂 but everyone enjoyed it so definitely will make again, thank you for passing on the recipe and for all your smashing videos ❤💐

    Hi Mike, this is exactly how i do my lavender cuttings , apart from i don't use a cloche/ bottle.
    I live in the uk & sadly we don't have any hummingbirds. They've always fascinated me & anyone who grows plants that feed them or insects/ bees, is alright in my books & doing what we were put on this planet to do. It's lovely that you are spreading the word & showing people how to help beautiful birds & insects.
    In the uk we have something called the "hummingbird moth" (look it up, u'll be amazed), It's a moth which looks like it has hummingbird attributes ; it has the fast vibrating wings & the long proboscis (inplace of a beak) & it feeds on the flowers in a similar fashion.
    So currently i'm substituting the moth for the real bird, but i feel very priveledged to have something as lovely that visits the " nectar bar" in my garden.
    Anyway, keep up the good work & thanks for a great video.

    • @MikeKincaid79
      @MikeKincaid79  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I recently heard from another viewer that there are no hummingbirds in the UK. I never knew this before and that's very interesting to me since they are so common around here. I believe they originate in South America and travel up this way every summer, but there is a variety that stays all winter. It's very curious to me that so many plants and animals have traversed the waters and multiplied throughout the world but the hummingbirds haven't been introduced there yet.

So I will do it a little comercial, to have a goal to reach witth so many plants coming... Niw a thought I have lavender in nt garden in town... And I am moving to the country side in a year, to a wild spot, with no fruit trees, flowers, fruit bushes and so on... But all the plants arr ready in bags and pots. You have been grrat help with experiments, like this and others like Japanese maple graftings (for bonsai and comercial purposes too

They will have hummingbirds all over them, just like bees do plants! I have ones that have baby blue, deep blue, red, pink, white and lavender flowers. The leaves are green with white spots or splotches, some having long slender leaves and some having wider leaves. They're all beautiful, thats why I have all colors. I've done lavender from semi hardwood cuttings many times before and done layering and this thing where I cut a foot long branch in February, stripped the lower 2/3 of the stem and dug a nice deep hole and plunked it down into that and grew a nice plant from that too.
