This was a great and balanced review thanks! Appreciate that you did not seem to have the same apple favoritism most reviewers do nowadays. I'm currently deciding between the two these days as well for photo, short video editing and a bit of business work so I think the 1080p XPS is the best fit due to the lighter weight, touchscreen and battery. Im also more of a windows user as well.
Best 13” laptop is very subjective. It depends on what’s the most important for you. In my case, I do video editing and so something like the Razer Stealth 13 or Asus G14 would be a way better choice for me because of the discrete graphics card.
Great video. Apple used to be on the leading edge of industrial design. That's clearly not the case anymore-for computers or smartphones. But, they're no slouches, either, and people are drawn to Apple for the software experience, which is why they're willing to pay more for their products. Oh, and regarding the webcams, the XPS video quality seemed much sharper, but maybe something got lost in the translation when seeing it on video instead of in-person.
Great video, thank you! That was exactly what I was looking for. Which one would you suggest for a mainly office usage (no video/photo editing)? Just complex Excels, PowerPoint, web pages at the same time
I’ve just spent 3 months with the two XPS 13 and am returning it for a Mac Pro! I chose the top spec XPS13, and had no end of problems with the laptop and Dell CS. They replaced, but had the same problems again; overheating, constantly crashing, system error messages that Dell couldn’t resolve, hours/days on the phone to CS. The reflective screen is terrible for out doors, and when hooked up to two 4K monitors a lot of lag! be careful with Dell as they only have 14 day return policy, so any early signs contact them ASAP, don’t wait!
Thanks for the warning. I have the XPS 13 on order. The first thing I am going to do when it arrives is clone the hard drive onto a 2nd drive to retain the 'out of the box' configuration, then update all the drivers and remove all the Dell bloatware. If you plan on using the Dell in a bright room or outdoors you should order it with the FHD display which has a matte finish. Yes, if faced with the same issues I will be returning this computer. I have a 2009 and 2015 MBP. Time to buy another computer, but I just got tired of the dated Apple look and wanted to try something different this time.
I actually applaud Apple for remaining with 8th Gen Intel. A percentage point's increase in clock speed and RAM means close to nothing when you have an SSD installed.
I would go for MacBook Pro..... I don’t believe Dell XPS and other windows PC.... I have already seen two of friends with dell had problems with their motherboard and fortunately replaced it with free of cost since it’s was under warranty period. I still feel all windows products are showing off with good specs with reasonable price. But in reality all fails to give long life, besides windows softwares sucks often 🤷♂️

If you get chance to review that would be awesome to see your thoughts? Watching on my 8 Pro Glacier Green (as seen in your video!) in glorious 1440p, looking sharp!!
Ed Davis as much as this sounds like a fanboy statement, PEOPLE THIS IS ACTUALLY TRUE. Literally every Apple product I’ve purchased has lasted years beyond any PC, android, Microsoft product I’ve ever had. It’s crazy. Also they very much keep their higher value which makes it awesome for when you want to sell in order to Upgrade.
I have a 10 years old Dell E6510 with latest Windows 10 and it just works fine and smoothly for regular daily usage. I have only replaced hdd with ssd.
I had a Dell and it broke down on me in less then a year. I switched to Mac and it’s been going very well. The build quality, sturdiness and iOS reliability on an Apple product is far superior.
Got the MBP13 and its the best laptop I've ever had. All other laptops feel like junk after using this one. Build quality, OS, integration with iPhone, are incredible, and its best feature is the P3 screen.
Despite the huge bezels on the Macbook Pro compared to the XPS, the Macbook Pro still managed to be very aesthetically pleasing due to the curved edges. This in an unpopular opinion of course.
For the price of the i7 & 1tb MacBook pro you can get a 15 or 17" Dell xps with better keyboard and touchpad, bigger battery and better speakers, so there's that 🤓
I can't believe I am saying this, but the Dell looks better and with the Apple eco-system (costly) I'd go with with Dell. Yet, I will stick to my trusted Thinkpad and custom desktop for gaming and entertainment.
Hey, Tom ! Are you still using the xps 15 9750 ? I own the xps 15 but its a bit slow to me If i change the ssd to the 1TB (Samsung 970 EVO), it would be faster even if i dont upgrade to 32gb ram ?
Just checking, lowering the XPS 13's resolution to 2560x1600 wouldn't change the battery life significantly would it (as the screen would still be powering the same number of pixels)? I have used the retina MacBook Pro 13"when it used to be my main laptop and that resolution is perfectly sharp and makes hits a good sweet spot for power and sharpness.
@@letsprogress4124 Yes, they don't have the tactile bump of thinner form factor keyboards, but the springy-ness of the keys makes up for it. It like trying to compare a scizzor keyboard to a legit mechanical one with brown switches

Tom I think it's worth pointing out to UK users that if you work in education i.e. you're a student then you can pretty much get the MacBook Pro 4 port model for same price as the Dell XPS 13 at £1450 from the Edustore plus they provide 4 year warranty. For that reason I chose the MacBook!
At the 8-10 years after, and if the laptop still works of course. The Dell XPS works like a charm with the most recent Windows update. The MacBook Pro has reached it’s end of life and will no longer be supported
Who keeps a laptop for 6 years? Let me get this straight, you will give up 6 years of awesomeness with the XPS, so that in year 7, 8 and 9 you're getting sufficient utility from the Mac? You sure have a lot of patience, and I've not even mentioned depreciation. You buy something new to get maximum utility in the first 2-3 years.
bodrulm1 Maximum utility in the first 2-3 years? What a load of bollocks. I’ve had my MacBook Pro since 2012. It’s only just packed up but was going strong right till the very end. It’s been used every single day, travelled across three continents and been dropped countless times. What an incredible investment that was. You cannot deny Apple’s build quality. That much is certain.
bodrulm1 People that use MacBooks. That’s who. Mine is 6 years old and still worked like the day I bought it until someone got water on it. I had 3 windows computers before that and they all failed in that 2-3 years. That is what all you brainwashed windows users have been trained to do. Needing to replace your computer every couple years is ridiculous and foolish. I have never spent a cent on anti virus software or had endless registry errors and super slow performance like every windows computer I have ever used. I prefer getting my money worth with something that will actually last. 2-3 is nothing for a MacBook but that dell will be at 40% of what it used to be. No thanks.
@@jeremiahlf I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 going strong after 6 years, but it technology has moved on in that time. If you drew a curve, I got most of the value in the first 3-4 years. After that it's a bonus - buy something for maximum utility now, don't worry about 6 years time.
This like comparing apples to oranges. Apple fans will go for the MacBook, and windows fans would go for Dell anyways, only 10% would consider switching
I've got the brand new Dell XPS 13 (9300) 512 SSD, 16GB RAM - heating issues are bad but not awful (very loud but hasn't crashed because of overheating). Other problems are awful - they sent a faulty laptop (screen crashes, common problem with dell laptops) and their customer service has done everything they could to string out not replacing it/refunding me. As a student, I wouldn't recommend it.
I would really love to see an XPS15 (2020 model) vs MBP 16 comparison video! I prefer Mac OS but I can go for either, and the XPS15 looks like it brings a very competitive package at a much lower price point! I’m thinking to get the cheapest 6 core i7 model (the base model below that is 4 core i5). Thanks for this awesome comparison man, been very helpful!
I'm just deciding whether to go for a MacBook (Air) but the XPS does look good. I'm a late convert to the reliable nature of the MAC OS though, and have had tons of trouble with Windows in the last few years, so am still leaning towards the littlest Mac.
Speakers and webcams are maybe not the most important features but have alook at the webcam comparison once more. Not exactly a close call I woulsd say. The macbook webcam is so poor that looks like it is over 10 years old technology., not exactly HDR😅
You can install Windows on any Intel Mac using Boot Camp and run both MacOS and Windows if you like. Or install just Windows if you hate MacOS. Not so easy to do the opposite; installing MacOS on a non-mac computer making all features like wifi, bluetooth, handoff, imessage, updates etc. work properly. The macs in general are a bit more expensive yes, but lasts longer and you can actually sell them for something after even 5 years. I still use my 7 year old $2500 Macbook Pro 15 inch with a quad core i7, 16 GB ram and 512 GB ssd as my main computer. It can use the newest MacOS and is not slow at all for my use. It still has 4 hour battery life with the original battery. It has been flawless, but the newer Macs might not have the same quality (?). 4K video editing or gaming is probably not something you will enjoy doing on it, but most things works great.

When looking at prices, an XPS with 512 SSD, 16 GB of RAM and 4k display cost 1850$ compared to the 1799$ mbp 13 with similar specs (3k display instead of 4k). I think value is honestly very similar between the two, and it comes down to what OS you prefer or need. If I am making a mistake please let me know haha! I just did some research on benchmarks and this is the conclusion I came to. (also please be kind if you disagree)
@Maître Manta true, a cheaper display option could've been quite interesting, especially at smaller sizes.
XPS looks so much sleeker but not sure on that carbon look on the keyboard. XPS over MB anyday.
Tech Nuovo the carbon fiber feels so good on your hands while your typing
@@granthartmann2249 I confirm that! It does get a little grease in previous gen, but the tradeoff is worth it, so much more comfortable and heat resistant.
I have carbon fiber on my current dell laptop and I absolutely love the feel. It's about 3-4 years old and I notice almost no wear and tear with daily gaming use. Inspiron 7559 for reference.
Righto! Sounds like we need to try out this carbon fiber for ourselves. Are any other brands using it or just Dell?
windows used to be work machines. now they just are for internet browsing and games.
Loving my new XPS 13! I got lucky and bought it while Dell was running a 17% discount code. Mine has the i7-1065, 16GB, 512GB, 4K touch for $1635 including tax. One tip: disable the touch screen function to give a nice boost to battery life. Great video, mate!!
Mine has 32gb ram and 1tb with the core i7. I have the developers edition

Do any of your XPS laptops have any heating issues like as in Macbook Air 2020 bad? I'm a student looking for something that can keep up with a lot of tabs...do you have any advice, I'd really appreciate it 🙂🙂
@@mmalik1339 I haven't noticed any issues with overheating, though with an aluminum chassis you might think it's overheating.
@@MalamIbnMalam ohhh that probably makes sense because of what other reviews were saying. Thanks. Would you recommend it as a work laptop?
holy moly never realised how clear the dell XPs screen is!! Look at the two in like the first few seconds of the video!! It like outshines the mbp
You are the king of laptop reviews and comparisons. Waiting for xps 17 vs mbp 16. Congrats!
*I did the swap from the Mac to the XPS 13, and what a correct decision I made! :D*
How's your experience with the XPS 13 so far?
I'm trying to decide which one to get, MBP 13 or XPS 13... it's such a dilemma.
The thing with Apple laptops is that they are very reliable and you know they are going to work perfectly fine for years to come
MBP 2015 screen coating issues say otherwise
by those years technology would be changed so much that u have to replace or upgrade it anyway.
Rossman repair group would disagree hahaha !
Best 13” laptop is very subjective. It depends on what’s the most important for you. In my case, I do video editing and so something like the Razer Stealth 13 or Asus G14 would be a way better choice for me because of the discrete graphics card.
Macbook or XPS, i prefer the zephyrus g14. :)
Nice video and excellent quality!
long live video card.

Great video Tom. MacBook Pro 16 vs Dell XPS 17 next please :)
Kevin Wong Yesss please!
Just complex Excels, PowerPoint, web pages at the same time
For simple tasks, go for the XPS.
Most likely never owned the xps but nice try
This is probably the best comparison video I’ve seen, period.
Nice review, thanks! I have a mug with the same design but with Houston logo))
I actually applaud Apple for remaining with 8th Gen Intel. A percentage point's increase in clock speed and RAM means close to nothing when you have an SSD installed.
Bought the XPS 13 following your review Tom. Thank you
First non biased review. Great!!
The new Dell XPS 13, 15, and 17 are truly amazing laptops!
Dell XPS is the way to go! Better everything. Don't feel like I'm getting ripped off! Thanks for a good video :)
Nice objective review, I really enjoyed it; usaually when apple is on the stage everybody becomes less objective, but I really appreciated you didn't.
Now that's a great comparison. Well done man 👍🏼👍🏼
Please do a review of the new Dell xps 15 and 17 when available- I’m probably going to buy one of these. Selling point - duel m.2!
Amazing how you compare both fantastic laptops 💻 in such genuine way. Very knowledgeable, and argumentative. All descriptions based in facts and real features. The first sincere and honest video I’ve found in months. Sick of fanboy content. Your work is the best by far👌🏻
XPS: clean look
Macbook: classic look
Classic = Dated
Justifying old by saying classic. Hehehe
I love how big those bezels are on the MacBook, hope next year they are bigger
Must admit. They really do need to sort out those bezels. Crazy stupid when they have the best display on the market hands down.
Just use an SD adapter in your cameras. Then you'll be using it all the time.
Great video Tom! Battery on that XPS is not brill.. Fancy the new Spectre 15 OLED 2020 myself for the num pad and 360 for presentations in meetings. Just saving up.. If you get chance to review that would be awesome to see your thoughts? Watching on my 8 Pro Glacier Green (as seen in your video!) in glorious 1440p, looking sharp!!
Hi, i'm on a budget, I can only afford the core i5 of either model. Which do you think i should use?
Get the 1200 base MacBook Pro. It’s a better value
Hey, Tom! Could you please tell, is XPS 13 2020 better than the latest Huawei Matebook X Pro 2020? I’m deciding between the two.
Macbook will always last longer in years than any windows machine
Ed Davis as much as this sounds like a fanboy statement, PEOPLE THIS IS ACTUALLY TRUE. Literally every Apple product I’ve purchased has lasted years beyond any PC, android, Microsoft product I’ve ever had. It’s crazy. Also they very much keep their higher value which makes it awesome for when you want to sell in order to Upgrade.
I have a 10 years old Dell E6510 with latest Windows 10 and it just works fine and smoothly for regular daily usage. I have only replaced hdd with ssd.
Lukáš Mačí can you edit 4k video on it like macbook pro 2010?
I had a Dell and it broke down on me in less then a year. I switched to Mac and it’s been going very well. The build quality, sturdiness and iOS reliability on an Apple product is far superior.
XPS has the best design now
Too slick
Too futuristic
luthfi1008 MN I still think MacBook Pro is more solid and fancy.
@@tiagoalfreddo that's the wrong opinion
@@yab3146 How can an opinion be wrong?
MDL Channel in a dictatorship haha
@@tiagoalfreddo we can judge it after we have the xps in our hands
Got the MBP13 and its the best laptop I've ever had. All other laptops feel like junk after using this one. Build quality, OS, integration with iPhone, are incredible, and its best feature is the P3 screen.
Give it a month when it starts breaking down
Did it start breaking down yet?
XPS 13 for me, so I can switch to linux while apple ditches Intel and macOS X.
Despite the huge bezels on the Macbook Pro compared to the XPS, the Macbook Pro still managed to be very aesthetically pleasing due to the curved edges. This in an unpopular opinion of course.
For the price of the i7 & 1tb MacBook pro you can get a 15 or 17" Dell xps with better keyboard and touchpad, bigger battery and better speakers, so there's that 🤓
The Macbook can play TH-cam videos past 1080p, you just need a browser that supports the vp9 codec (Chrome, edge, anything on chromium).
Hi! about to get a new laptop, does Macbook Air supports past 1080p too?
I can't believe I am saying this, but the Dell looks better and with the Apple eco-system (costly) I'd go with with Dell. Yet, I will stick to my trusted Thinkpad and custom desktop for gaming and entertainment.
i’m very glad that I watch your video, clears my mind to what to buy.
If a dell was £300 cheaper then I'd maybe look at the XPS, but at the same price, I'd go MAC all day. Nice video though!
UK Bobby Bee do you reckon the Mac will outlast the dell?
0:55 you are literally a highly advanced idiot.
I just got the xps for college and I'm opening in on the 3rd of june. Fingers crossed it doesn't break down like my old laptop
which model did you get, what is it like?
How smartly Apple tells their customers that you're getting faster graphics aka iris LoL non technical people are like (´⊙ω⊙`)!
The standard of content you produce is fantastic.
The chasis of the mbp is second to none, I don't really care much about the bezels
Hi Tom, I read complaints on fan noise, blue screens, white colour inaccuraty,... on the XPS. Did you encounter such problems?
Waiting for the new 2020 17" DELL XPS Review....
Hey, Tom ! Are you still using the xps 15 9750 ? I own the xps 15 but its a bit slow to me
If i change the ssd to the 1TB (Samsung 970 EVO), it would be faster even if i dont upgrade to 32gb ram ?
The XPS 13 looks exaxtly like the Huawei Matebook x pro.
Brilliant video... Fairly laid out points!!
4:23 I'm using the exact same MacBook Pro 13 and I can select the 4K resolution in TH-cam 🤷♂️
He used safari
Just checking, lowering the XPS 13's resolution to 2560x1600 wouldn't change the battery life significantly would it (as the screen would still be powering the same number of pixels)? I have used the retina MacBook Pro 13"when it used to be my main laptop and that resolution is perfectly sharp and makes hits a good sweet spot for power and sharpness.

talha hussain but the screen of the thinkpads tho
@@Mathcartney heeeey the newer models have pretty damn good screens. If you want to diss something it should be the speakers.
Thinkpads keyboards are mushier. Also, more key travel isn’t necessarily better, especially if there isn’t a bump.

Hope to have xps 13.
Btw let's go 1 million subs ❤
nice
I can sum this up before watching this.
"Depends what you like; Mac or Windows"
Amen lol
The real test is six years from now when only one of them will still be working.
Good comparison but I really wonder that which one is best choice for photo editing and color accuracy? Thanks.
This like comparing apples to oranges. Apple fans will go for the MacBook, and windows fans would go for Dell anyways, only 10% would consider switching
Does the XPS have heating issues? Like as in Macbook Air 2020 bad? I'm a student thinking of getting it...any advice? Thanks!

Nah, I'm sure you can get Mac OSX running on the XPS if you were willing to get technical.
Use Hackintosh
XPS with a 2560x1600 touch display is my perfect laptop! Please make it happen dell!
My favorite windows laptop is a MacBook.
But the mbp mic sounds better imo
@@davidyusaku Yes, question if you are going for the looks or a singing voice. That would be the dealbreaker I guess.👩🦳🎶
