I'm so glad that Hollywood showed some restraint and didn't make soulless cash grab sequel after soulless cash grab sequel after making one of the best sci-fi duologies ever. Fun Fact: When filming the scene with Newt in the duct, Carrie Henn kept deliberately blowing her scene so she could slide down the vent, which she later called a slide three stories tall. James Cameron finally dissuaded her by saying that if she completed the shot, she could play on it as much as she wanted. She did, and he kept his promise.
@@servantofmelian9966 She retired at the top, lol. She was in a good movie, played a good role, had fun, and went home. She came out ahead. Too many kid stars end up messed up. She even got to go in an epic slide...
Oh I totally agree. I knew we had to be going somewhere with that ultimately, but then as the movie went on and I got into it, I forgot. So it was awesome at the end.
28:06 The movie is almost 40 years old and I've seen it a million times, but I just now realized that if Ripley had not lost her flight officer status after the inquiry, forcing her to work in the cargo docks, "running loaders, forklifts, that sort of thing," she would not have gained the experience to use the power loader and fight the queen. Now I see what you did there, Mr. James Cameron. It only took me 40 years.
Definitely the first film I watched as a kid that was more of an experience than just a movie. It was terrifying, thrilling, and just plain cool. It was THE movie and a re-occurring rental for many years.
Yeah, better to have seen late than never at all, but I really wish I could have seen this in the theater. I can only imagine how awesome it would have been.
@@DavidvsFilm independent theatres here in the UK still do occasional special showings of Aliens/Alien, sometimes as a double feature, I bet some US theatres do too :)
That seems to be the consensus. I'd like to watch for fun, but so many people have told me stop, and I trust you. Any other great ones you recommend? I'd like to get into Lord of the Rings next I think. I know, very different kind of series than Alien, but well-received.
@@DavidvsFilm I think you should watch rest of the series. Alien and Aliens were outstanding movies or even masterpieces and sequels were decent. Just in comparison to originals they look bad, but they aren't objectively bad movies. Even good movie compared to masterpiece will look bad. You should give them a try.
@@DavidvsFilm Watching "3" wouldn't be fun. Not just because it's far inferior, but because it breaks continuity and makes Aliens completely meaningless. It would just leave a bad taste in your mouth, that you could never get rid of. Look, not even the director, David Fincher, wants anything to do with it. He refused to do a "director's cut" when offered, and doesn't even want to talk about it. Also, one of the many, many writers, talked about how the studio completely f'ed it up and didn't care about continuity or making sense. Again, if it was just a terrible movie unrelated to Alien(s), you'd just waste a couple of hours. But it's not. It's poison. Fincher went on to make good movies. This is not on him. The writing was horrible, and the best director in the world could not save it.
And so Ripley, Newt, and Hicks went back to Earth got a huge settlement from the company and lived happily ever after, Bishop can come too... AND NOTHING ELSE BAD HAPPENED!
One aspect of the theatrical version that I like is that you don't see the colony before the marines get there. It's left to our imagination what it looked like, and what happened. And it's easy and terrifying to imagine.
Yes, so many people today do not know the context and times when this movie came out. It was way before the xenomorphs were so over exposed and before the internet. Everything was still a mystery and the theatrical version’s first half capitalized on the fear the audience had of the first movie. Colony scenes was rightfully deleted but I have to say the shot of the derelict was suitably eerie.
Trivia fact: The picture of her daughter is actually a picture of her mother. Also, miss Weaver long lost cousin I believe was Doodles Weaver an actor who played in the movie "The Birds." He was the fishermen guy who helped Tippi into the boat when she wanted to leave the Love Birds with Mitch.
Ok THANK YOU for telling me that about the picture, because I thought that looked like her. I just figured they found an actress or model who shared in her appearance, since this would have been pre-Photoshop days. Also cool note about her relative in the Birds. Interesting.
I've seen so many reactions to this so far and FINALLY I got the Mad About You joke I was hoping for. LOL. As for the remaining sequels, I've only seen the last two thirds of the one Winona Ryder is in. IMHO, it was OK but nothing like the first two. (Google tells me that would be Alien: Resurrection. See how memorable it was for me?)
Hahaha, oh yes, I see how memorable lol. That’s the one I recall from when it came out in theaters. I remember there was a huge marketing campaign for it and everything. And Lol @ the Mad About You. Thank YOU for appreciating it. I vaguely remember an SNL where Paul Reiser hosted, and they did a spoof on Mad About You where it was him living with the alien. So stupid but funny.
I saw this movie 3 times with 3 different groups of friends or relatives during the first week that it was at the theater. All 3 theaters had multiple ambulances come because the movie was causing people to have panic or heart problems. I had an accelerated heart rate and a jumpy kind of nervousness by the end of the 3rd night.
Wow! Isn’t that something? I can understand though! The only movie I remember personally seeing in the theater where it caused physical side effects like that was Blair Witch Project. I remember people leaving due or getting sick due to motion sickness and hearing similar stories elsewhere.
You did a great job of staying out of the way. Your comments were calm and sparse, and echoed my thoughts. Now I gotta go and explore your other reactions. Never saw you before today. Nice job. Wasn't it great the way Cameron kept you going on Bishop, who essentially saved the day?!
Thank you, Christopher! I really appreciate that. I’m still learning, so bear with me if other videos are a little more cringeworthy. I depend on the feedback to help make it more fun for everybody, so thank you for your comments! And let me know any suggestions in case I may not have seen them.
9:03 same type of weapon Arnold asked for in the 40 watt range at the gun store in the original Terminator, proof both franchises take place in the same universe.
Trivia fact: The actress Jennette Goldstein is JEWISH playing Vasquez also played in "The Titanic" and "Terminator 2" Unfortunately, in the next installment Newt dies in that one.
No, Newt does not die in the 3rd movie:. She has already died 'before' it starts! As is Hicks!!! So I was inclined to not like that movie almost from the get-go!!!!!
Alien and Aliens should have been the backbone of an epic movie franchise. It's a damn shame that no more Alien movies were made after Aliens. A real damn shame.
I loved both of them, and even though I’m glad I hadn’t already watched so that I was able to watch first here on the channel, I wish I had seen them sooner. In the theater would have been amazing.
@@DavidvsFilm The British tv series Red Dwarf is hilarious! Its from the late 80s and 90s but they came back and made new seasons since then. It's basically a scenario where 3 morons, a "Cat" and the dumbest and most useless AI in Sci-Fi history run a ship the size of the "star destroyer" in Spaceballs. One of the most annoying characters in the show is a sentient toaster that is far more qualified to run the ship than any of the other crew.
One thing to really note is how the movie pays off so many early hints. Ripley lost her daughter, she gets a new one. Bishop and Asimov's laws of robotics. Ripley's loader skills pay off. Watch Hicks early - he respects and listens to Ripley. Even Gorman gets a redemption. This movie is deeply layered, and it all rests on Ripley and her humanity.
If this franchise was an amusement park, Alien is the haunted house ride and Aliens is the rollercoaster. This one had James Cameron visual style stamped all over, especially coming off of The Terminator. Aliens is the first horror film since The Exorcist, to get as much Oscar recognition from best actress, director, and film nominations. I'll forever be devoted to the first one, but this one is one of those rare occasions where the sequel is just as good.
When this film came to vhs, we immediately bought it. My son was a baby then. When he was five years old, he wanted to watch it but it was way too adult. Six months later, he got chicken pox, then an allergic reaction to it where he ended up with hives AND chicken pox everywhere. When his fever finally went down and the hives faded, he was so weak I had to carry him from room to room. I was so thankful he was on the mend, I told him he could pick any movie to watch. He wheezed out, “Aliens.” I said yes but he had to close his eyes at every scene I told him to. He loved it even though he only saw about half of it! His favorite part was the Ripley vs Queen scene. I made him a loader outfit with cardboard, paper sacks & tin foil. He held a dustbin in one hand and a grill spatula in the other. He was Ripley and I was the “Mommy Monster.” We’d re-enact that fight over and over. I wouldn’t let him cuss so he’d begin the line, “Get away from her, you…” and I’d yell “Bitch!” Then we’d fight. The kitchen was our battleground and the living room carpet the air lock. He’d grab me with the dustbin and spatula, then stomp carry me to the carpet. We untied his shoe so it would come off when I grabbed it and a cookie sheet with magnets was the control panel to send me out in space.
Yes the Director's Cut is the one to watch for this one, it includes story info that is absolutely needed for the movie. If you play the game Alien Isolation you get to play as Ripley's daughter Amanda and it takes place between the first two movies.. 😁
I saw this together with my father in the cinema back in 1986, it was one of the greatest movie experiences I had in theatre. You were right about Ripley's multilayered character (which she already was in ''Alien''), imo, this female character is a landmark character and performance by Sigourney Weaver, who was nominated for an Oscar, and should've won that one. Btw, I just remember, when you started watching, with the opening title, when the news came out of the sequel, and it was announced as ''Aliens'', I thought it was brilliant to name this sequel of ''Alien'' like that, instead of lame ''Alien 2'', because, the first one had 1 scary alien (excluding the facehugger), and then part 2 comes (obviously) with more of those scary f*ckers lol!
Hey Peter! 1000% agree with everything you said. I would have LOVED to see this in the theater. You know me- I talk too much lol- and I made a comment that I ultimately edited out for time about how I love that Ripley is a badass BUT she’s a badass who follows the rules. So often you see that the (especially female) badasses are criminals or rebels, etc, but Ripley’s always like “No no no, protocol #602 days we observe quarantine for 35 days…”, and then smokes an alien lol. I love her.
Absolutely LOVE this movie. And the first time I played the game “Halo: Combat Evolved”, I knew the creators of that game had to love “Aliens”, too. Both are amazing.
Let me tell you something- I intentionally stay away from games because I know my weaknesses, and I'll get sucked in for hours. Comments like these make it really hard for me not to check it out though lol. I'm sure it's awesome
Fun fact about the set with the cryogenic freezers. They only actually built 4 of them for the set then used a huge mirror to make it look like there's several of them! Have fun trying to spot the mirror!
Thank you so much, Stoyan! Just trying to have a good time and watch some awesome movies. Let me know any future feedback- I’d really appreciate your thoughts.
Thank you very much! I go off you guys’ recommendations 100% when weighing which version to watch, so thanks for the advice, Donato. I certainly enjoyed the Special Edition of Aliens.
Aww thanks so much, Mark! I really appreciate that. This one had me nerved out pretty good, but I think the most stressed I've ever been was watching Breaking Bad. I'm not sure if you watched that series, but I originally had no interest in it, and then someone convinced me to watch. Girl- by the end of the last season I was sucking up couch cushions and yelling at the tv. So this wasn't quite that level, but close haha. Hope everything is going well on your end. :)
@@DavidvsFilm Oooooo no, I haven’t actually watched Breaking Bad! Everyone has always suggested it…I guess I better get my butt in gear and watch it then!! Sounds like I’ll need Peach Tea at the ready!!! 😊
@@markumphrey642 Haha yes! It was a bit of a slow burn at first, but then it gets very suspenseful. I had zero interest in it initially, but by the end of the first season I was hooked. Only got better :)
So the next best alien property (IMHO) is the horror game Alien Isolation. From the added scene in the directors cut which introduced her daughter Amanda, Alien Isolation follows her in her mid 20’s as an engineer for the company looking for her mother. The games is set between the first and second movie. The environments are straight out of the first movie and still look great even though it came out in 2014. There’s even DLC where you can play as the original crew voiced by the original actors being chased through the ducts of the Nostromo. Highly recommend checking it out. I also know Aliens was wrong about Amanda passing away at age 66 because I got her killed dozens of times in her 20’s
Okay, I'm going to add two stories... Ever since I got into the Alien franchise, I literally movie watched myself into a case of jumpy PTSD over flashing yellow lights...which was really unfortunate since at the time I worked in a factory. Every time a freaking forklift backed up flashing and beeping my brain kept going "You have 15 minutes to reach minimum safe distance..." LOL! Not kidding. Then, after we saw Alien 3, we were house sitting a friend's apartment that weekend. I got up to go to the bathroom that night without flipping on the lights and encountered the vacuum cleaner in the hallway...with it's ridged hose curled against the wall at a weird angle - think alien tail. I went through the flipping ROOF! 🤣😂🤣😂 As I said in my earlier comment, Alien 3 takes a hard left turn in the plot; and they were really secretive in hiding the plot from leaks before the movie. I yelled my way straight out of my seat. So while it was different, it was POWERFUL. Definitely worth seeing. Hope you react to it soon!
Lol!!! That’s hilarious on both counts. The forklift one sounds like something I would do. Yeah, I’ve heard mixed reactions, but I like the way you worded your assessment of it. I’ll definitely watch. I think maybe Predator first tho- eager to see it.
I saw the theatrical version when "Aliens" arrived at the theaters. It was an interesting Action roller coaster ride, but I did wonder how Ripley was able to connect with Rebecca so quickly. A reviewer at the time said: "Sisterhood!" which didn't sit well with me. When I bought the Special Edition Laserdisc(!) it became crystal clear that what was edited out was 'Ripley's and Newt's tale." Other extras, like "Hudson's Rant," the Hamsters, the Sentry Gun boogie, and the "first names reveal" added Pathos to this otherwise slam-bang story. Aww, you passed on Vasquez' and Hudson's "mistaken for a man" exchange. The Assembly Cur of "Alien3" addresses the "how can a Xenomorph be birthed from a DOG?" question.
Literally laughed out loud at "Sisterhood!" haha. Yeah, I wasn't sure exactly what was included in this version that was omitted from the theatrical, so after you've now told me, I'm glad I watched this one. Speaking of Vasquez, I have to tell you the HARDEST thing about doing the reaction videos is the editing. It is so hard to take these amazing films and edit them down from over 2hrs to 25-35 min. I loved that character and their interaction, and it was so hard deciding what to cut and what to leave. If enough people get interested, I would like to eventually set up a Patreon where we can watch full-length movies "together" in that space. Thanks so much for your awesome comments, Otokichi786!
One of the few sequels that out-shone the original, (Godfather 2 and T2 as well) and hands down is still one of my all time favourite films. Ripley set the stage for strong, vulnerable female heroes who didn't need to look a certain way to be sexy and powerful. I'm a new sub (your Harry Potter vid was my 1st) and am enjoying your channel.
Thank you so so much! This warms my heart :) I 100% agree with you, by the way. I have seen the Godfather series, but I have not seen Terminator (though I know all about Sarah Connor). I would like to watch that.
Funny you mentioned Batman being here because there are actually comics of Batman going up against the Aliens, the Predators, and both. There are some that have Superman as well.
Get out of here, really?? I was just making a bad joke because the vehicle reminded me of Batman. I'm a sucker for crossovers and match-ups, so this sounds cool to me!
@@Overlord0011 I really enjoy both Batman and Superman comics/graphic novels. Sadly, I couldn’t tell you where a lot of them are now, but I know I still my copy of The Killing Joke in my office.
"Alien" and "Aliens" are very different, but equally brilliant. "Alien 3" is the single biggest "Fuck You!" to an audience in the history of film. It shits on everything that came before and is a cancer on the franchise.
When you finish these films the behind the scenes making of all the alien movies, and Prometheus are incredible. Some of the best documentaries about film making ever produced.
Well, unfortunately I can't put the toothpaste back in the tube on this one, but I think going forward I will definitely stick to the theatrical versions. Not because I didn't enjoy this one- that wasn't the case at all- but to your point more concise and better suited for first-time viewing. Thanks for much for the comment!!! Appreciate you watching.
@@DavidvsFilm Thanks for the reply😊. It wasn't meant as a criticism. There is a fanboy element that demands reactors endure the longest most complete cut which actually maybe a lesser movie than the original but it doesn't apply to many movies. Keep up the good work!
@@por1821 Oh I know! Totally didn’t take it that way at all :) I really appreciate you watching and commenting. I’m still new to this, so I’m taking all the advice I can get. @@por1821 There are a handful of things I dislike about the extended version but the scene that gets under my skin the most is when Ripley decides to spend a few moments flirting with Hicks before going off to rescue Newt. Are you kidding me? Ripley would not waste a SECOND when going to rescue Newt.
Alien/Aliens are perfection. Past that it's just Burger King/McDonalds franchise. You've just seen the high mark; why hang out for the disappointment. Why don't you, instead pursue more excellence? I am requesting two sci-fi films that will stay with you for a long time to come: UNDER THE SKIN (2013) EX MACHINA (2014) Apex science fiction . Subbed, btw -
Thank you so much for the sub, Blue!! Ex Machina is familiar to me by title, but Under the Skin is a new one that I don’t think I know.. Of all the genres I’ve watched, I have noticed that sci-fi does tend to be what stays with me, so I appreciate the recommendations!
@@DavidvsFilm My pleasue, David. I grew up on Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, and One Step Beyond, so sci-fi is a comfortable fit. A I has been a thematic stable in science fiction since it was only fiction. Now it drives the highways, delivering your UPS packages while replacing drivers. EX MACHINA (2014) makes it flesh. You're the Turing test. Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander. I never liked Scarlett Johansson so completely as i do now that i have watched this UNDER THE SKIN (2014). This seductive film is an alien abduction. The house lights in the theater went down, and Director Jonathan Glazer turned on the tractor beam. 'Lifted me right out of my seat. 'Might be my all-time favorite sci-fi journey. I hope you'll consider both films for reactions - Keep up the good work. Peace -
The reason why the sequel took so long was because they had many lawsuits, And 20th Century Fox I believe we're on the border if they should release it or not...James Cameron wrote the script and they went for it
Ahhhhh I see. Thank you for sharing that, Pinkie! I knew it had to be something like that. It was worth the wait, in my opinion. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for checking out the video :)
Hello Mister! I am so happy you watched this. It was my fave film for like 15 yrs (then LotR came along). Ripley is just...next level in this. And you're right...the fight scene with the Queen is one of the most thrilling ever made. Ridley Scott is a serious Director man 🙃 who wasn't doing sequels back then so I can see where he had no interest and it took years before the right person could take it on. I read James Cameron started writing it in 1983. He rocks but wow everyone involved in this film clearly was calibre. Also fun to see Paxton, Jenette Goldstein & Lance Henriksen together. Cameron clearly loved working with them as LH & BP were in Terminator & JG in T2. All three show up in Near Dark, an awesome 1987 vamp film by Kathryn Bigelow who was married to Cameron at one time. You had me laughing several times in this (always check the trunk, better fight than even at the Mall).😁 Great reaction...great jumpscares. Absolutely watch all Alien movies. Don't skip any, that's not what fans do! I'm not going to lie. I dont like the 3rd film, but it's not because it's poorly made. The story choice is disappointing. You'll understand when you see it. Love Resurrection. Strong unique Ripley stuff in there. Prometheus is awesome. Even Alien vs Predator is fun (I'm a Predator fan too). Everything elaborates on the lore of the xenomorphs. Aliens is hands down one of the best action films ever made. It just hits all the right notes! And the fx hold up 35 yrs later! Respect.
Hi Jolly!!! Thank you so much as always :) I LOVED these two that I have seen so far. I plan to watch the others- I can't imagine not. And you know what- I have seen neither Predator nor - now don't gasp or faint- ANY of the LOTR. There's no specific reason or anything, I just didn't see the first one when it came out, then I got behind, and now it feels like a big project lol. But I think it would be a great series to watch on the channel! The only hesitation I have is that I do NOT want to piss off any LOTR fans with my reactions because they take that sh*t seriously lol.
Let’s not forget Michael Biehn, who was technically more of a “lead” in this movie than any of the others you mentioned, and of course will go down in history as Kyle Reece in The Terminator. James Cameron certainly had a penchant for recycling actors.
THANK YOU, Brad!! It was because of you that I ended up watching this one that day. I enjoyed it so much and got so into it, that I kind of forgot to be making comments for like the first 30 min haha. It was a great, great film and I really appreciate you recommending it again :) Have a great week ahead friend.
I just wanted to point out but honestly I like watching there's a guy on TH-cam goes by alien theory and it show some of comic books from the alien movies and what the movie's left out, so if you're kind of curious like I was, go check it out it explains a lot like how Newt survived and what happened to everyone, so there's so much more too like other scenes too other thing's being explained it is really interesting, check it out if you're curious.
Totally agree with the "simple premise" comment. Movies like this work so well because they don't have a plot hole laden, over the top premise. Its starts simple and then gets layers and texture the deeper you go with world building, characters and motivations. It makes these movies timeless, Alien, Aliens, The Thing, Predator etc. I prefer the director's cut, though I have heard pacing arguments for the theatrical which for first time watching I don't necessarily disagree with - I think it depends how much you loved the world that was created in the original. From memory the biggest additions are the sentry gun scenes, which while adding tension and the sense of looming dread does slow down the pace. The scene where we see Hadley's Hope before the outbreak, which I'm surprised they didn't at least cut down because that adds some nice elements to the horror of what happened to the Colony as well as getting to known Newt a bit more. But the scene that I'm really surprised they removed was the one about Ripley's daughter. It adds so much to Ripley's journey and so much more weight to Newt's "Mummy" after the Alien Queen is defeated. As much as I love the "pew" of the sentry guns (as an aside - I LOVE when movies put details into actions, like the Sentry Gun monitors showing a temp gauge as well as ammo. Small, subtle, but makes things feel so real. Or how Ripley closes the air lock - not a single button press, but as if it were a real safety feature requiring a bit more to use so its not accidentally activated), this is now my favourite added scene
I want to point out a crucial comment you made at the start of the film that is missing in almost ALL of current films: a hero with FLAWS. Every movie is a bad-ass girl boss who is great at everything, is better than everyone else, and has to put down men to do it. Ripley is one of my fav characters of all time. And Im a guy! But she’s tormented. She’s actually weak in the beginning. She has something to overcome. Challenge after challenge, and finally overcomes and BECOMES a hero. Not starting off the movie as a perfect girl boss. I love characters that we can relate to. WE have flaws. WE have fears. And we dont get better unless we face and overcome them. And that is what makes Ripley and all “heroes”, whether they be male or female, relatable and interesting!
I first watched this film when I was 7-8 years old, I had nightmares for days. But it also solidified itself as my favorite film of all time. I especially like that the marines were competent throughout, yes Gorman might be the exception, but he's also a new lieutenant and as such he was a by the book leader, he does however redeem himself with the rear guard action with Vazquez. Unlike most horror/action films, in particular within the greater Alien continuity, the characters all just get shit done, yeah some of them are more complicated, like Hudson and Gorman, but they still do their jobs and go down fighting. Burke is also an interesting character, his actions make sense from his point of view, evil as they might be, but his actions aren't due to incompetence like in some films where the plot hinges on a character being a negative IQ waste of space to carry the story forward.
I'm going to suggest a XL peach tea film that a lot of people have never heard of. Session 9 (2001). (you may also need a couple candles) It's the best horror film you have never heard about. Filmed at the infamous Danvers State Insane Asylum.
Thank you, Douglas!! Yeah someone else mentioned that movie to me recently, though I didn’t know about the filming location. That definite songs like something I’d be interested in. Appreciate the recommendation!
This whole concept of going back out there and facing your fears by potentially putting yourself in the exact same scenario that you were before that started the problem to begin with, makes no sense to me. Even if it's not likely (which wasn't the case here), having just the tiniest fraction of a chance that you could find yourself again trying to escape an extremely terrifying alien, would mean that there's not a snowball chance in hell that I would ever consider going back out there to face those things. So you want me to go back out there so I can turn my nightmares back into a reality again???? Uuuuhhh....HELL TO THE NO! I'll be fine here, thank you very much. You guys have fun and send me a post card. I need some psychological therapy for my dreams, not facing off with the aliens in person again!
Hahahaha I mean obviously I agree. Like if you survived the Titanic sinking but then the next year were like, “Oh there’s a Titanic II setting sail this summer. I’m in!” No. Thanks for the comment and watching!
@@DavidvsFilm I would distinguish. I mean, if you go on a Titanic II it's not supposed to sink again and it's good technology and the don't intentionally drive into an iceberg, so you are there to desensitize yourself from your experiences on the first ship. It's the same with an airplane crash you survived, the longer you wait the worse it gets. But I agree that I would not go on a military mission to confront a real danger again, payed by the same company that said "crew expendable", with a killer robot, especially having seen now how the company is shaming you now and setting you up as an unstable person. How convenient that it just happens a short time after your trial that contact got lost after 20 years without any problem for that colony. I would be so suspicious. Don't forget that trial was secret/not public. I would tell them good luck and hope they fail, because if they succeed you are sure that this alien will be on Earth. But hey it's a movie, so it had to be that way...
You have to watch Arnuld in Predator and then the crossover movie Alien vs Predator starring Lance Henrikson (bishop from aliens) as the ceo of Weyland industries from the Aliens franchise. Another follow up is the movie Predators starring Adrien Brody and Machete. All 3 movies are fantastic...
@@DavidvsFilm Arnulds performance in Predator is probably his second best movie behind T2, so that's some high praise. Love your reactions as I just watch your LOTR part 1. The epic of all epic series...
21:55: ME!! If there are animals in a movie, esp a horror movie, I fear their fate…and they are always in the back of my mind. How did the hamsters survive as long as they did? Was Newt refilling the water bottles?
I see you saw the extended version. If the last half gave your panic, the theatrical version’s first half would’ve given you the raw suspense reminiscent of the first movie. It kept you in the dark about the colony so you are along on the ride with the marines and Ripley. It engages your mind and make you think, like all classic movies do, instead of explaining everything and telling instead of showing. The extended cut is for modern audiences who can’t fill in the blanks and actually think because Newt’s survival was not explicitly explained, is a “plot hole”.
Thanks for the feedback on this!! Yeah by far the hardest choice (besides which scenes to keep/cut during editing) with the reactions is which version of a movie to watch.
Finally, a real and full reaction. Your reactions got me so excited my Hair started tingling the way it did when I first saw it in the theaters. Great reactions!!! BTW - #3 sucks big green….
Thanks Eddie! I appreciate that, really. Yeah I’ve definitely heard some mixed reactions on 3. Pretty much everyone seems happy with the original 2. But I’m eager to get to the one with Winona Ryder, where the alien comes after her for shoplifting.
@@DavidvsFilm Please don't :( Alien Resurrection is soooooo bad, that is the one with Winona Ryder lol, U can't watch the Prequels which explain the orgins of the Aliens, and man, I would suggest starting there, u don't need to see part 3 and 4 to understand them :) Prometheus 2012, and Alien: Covenant 2017, Covenant being the better one to me at least. (Yea seems u was being sarcastic hope so)
Hey David 🥰 Just wanted to drop by and recommend a movie to you 😄 You gotta watch the movie Aliens vs Predators. Now I know what you're thinking...Aliens? Predators? Together? Yes. Baby jesus knew what we needed and absolutely delivered. The movie is completely separate from each of the two monster's original movies but I think you'll love it and it's definitely a fun movie. I think you'll have a great time seeing both of these ironic creatures battle it out to see who will reign supreme.
Hi gurra88! No, this is actually the extended cut. I was going to watch the theatrical, but the special edition was only an additional few minutes so I thought, Eh why not? I’m watching Lord of the Rings currently (Fellowship), and that extended cut by comparison was an additional hour. So I went theatrical on that one.
Screw the modern feminism stuff. Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor are the ultimate female badasses. This is how you do it. At the end of the day, guys would run though a brick wall for leaders like that. James Cameron knew how to write strong characters.
I still need to see the Terminator series (A I’ve seen enough to know what you mean about Sarah Connor), but yeahhhhh Ripley is one of my all-time favorite characters now. Totally agree with you- I’d follow her!
Agreed, you have mastered the art of the humorous yet enthralling reaction video. Keep them coming! And, hey, very few reactions to one of my favorite films ever, The Night of the Hunter…. Great, deep and emotional suspense, fantastic characters, wildly memorable dialogue and one of the most charming/terrifying baddies in any film. Ever seen the tattooed knuckles reading LOVE and HATE? (Spike Lee made an homage in Do the Right Thing…) that comes from Night of the Hunter. It’s a strange film, quite dreamlike and theatrical. Some folks react against the theatricality of it but I have a feeling you will really love it. It’s scary and ultimately such a moving film. The Night of the Hunter!
Another awesome reaction dear! First two films are the best but I think you should check all Alien films and make your own opinions about them. Some people say you should stop after Aliens. No, you shouldn't !!! I've seen many reactors who loved Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection. Just don't expect too much! Each Alien film adds something fresh and interesting about xenomorphs, specially Alien 3
Thank you so much for the advice! I’d like to. It’s hard for me to just stop watching once I get into something. And you are right about just making sure expectations are set. ;)
I hate the Special Edition. It adds a lot of good stuff, but it also completely ruins the movie by introducing Newt to the audience before Ripley meets her.
Oh my God I COMPLETELY forgot about that video!!! At first I read your comment, and I was like, “Uh, Whoa..” but then I remembered what you were referring to!
Once it was known they couldn't fire their weapons around the primary heat exchangers I would have pulled the team out to re-arm accordingly so they wouldn't have unusable excess weight, and can carry more of the useful weapons. Not pulling the team back at that point was one of the worst decisions because even professionals can freak out in battle and simply use whatever they have to survive and so may go against orders. Besides, they are trained so repetitively in using those weapons they may still use them out of sheer habit. The best thing to do then is to not have them available to use at all.
Its so funny you said the transformer thing,..when me and my friend went to see this, when she came out to battle.with the queen(aka 3 mouths),..I said out loud, "ooh its Megatron ",..my friend and the people in front of is chuckled,..I know Ripley is a badass, but so is Vasquez, and Farrow, the pilot,..she went down swinging, she was about to draw her sidearm when alien got the drop on her, and of course Newt, little girl trapped with no way off the planet, surviving,.and yess Ripley putting a torch to the sprinkler, like Bruce Willis in Die Hard hurling that chair out of the window, to get someone's attention, sometimes you have to crack a window, something, so you can get help,..Sigourney was nominated for an Oscar for this role,.Oscar doesn't really smile on scifi,..I mean, special effects, yeah, and editing and sound,..but acting,..and like you said she's being portrayed in a more sympathetic human way,..a credit to her talent, to be nominated for a role like this,..Spunkmyer on here was also in The Strain series,..he kinda took on the Burke , Ash persona, selling out, mankind,.and Vasquez is in Lethal Weapon, ..Hicks Michael Beihn is in Planet Terror,., a lot of actors went on to a lot of other good roles and movies,..do keep going,..Alien 3 ,..a lot of people didn't like,..its up.to you,..Godspeed, Peace ✌
I sure hope you watch the whole franchise, I want to see your reaction to Prometheus. Also, you should watch the Predator franchise, they tie into this movie series. I think you should definitely watch them all, regardless what anyone says, as it’s all relative to ones own liking.
00:39 - Back in that "day" everything took a long time, Star Wars (1977) played in the same theater for a whole year! I'm sure I watched Alien in the same theater at least 3 times in a six-month period. But sequels can be pushed out fast, in 1933 Son of Kong was only a few months after it's highly successful Sire. This sequel is one of the very few that match the original in quality, but as a franchise, you can easily stop here and just enjoy two exceptional films without getting the horrible aftertaste of seeing any of the rest.
You know that is an excellent point! Now that you mention it, I remember even ~20 years after this, Titanic (also obviously James Cameron) stayed in theaters for a good while. Very true. Thanks for your comment!
What a movie first time i saw it on vhs neighbors and my family did "movie night" every 2 weekends and i found this tape even when my mother hid it from me and my 4 yr younger brother (i was 11) and we watch it while she was in work suffice to say that we where so impressed by it next 2 months we slept with lights on and closed doors ... still, totally worth it ^^
Haha thank you for sharing! That kind of story is exactly why I have this channel. I love to hear other people's experiences with these movies. Thanks again
So much fun to watch with you. I think I need to mix up my own peach tea and drink every time you say "oh, my god!" I mean, I'll probably miss the second half of every movie, but, sacrifices. Some people don't like A3 & A4, but I think you will. A3 has much of the same vibe as A2 and, sure, there's a lot of desperation & sadness, but whatevs. And A4 brings it to a close. As for the prequels, if you care about where the Aliens came from, why they are the way they are, and where the ship came from, watch them. If that's not important to you, give them a pass. (Most prequels annoy me because I already know what happens to whom, who lives, dies, etc.) I mean, technically, maybe the prequels should be watched first, eh, more peach tea should resolve that conflict. Always a fun time watching with you!
Hahaha your comments always make my day, Teddi! And girl, yes- I had to slow down with the peach tea while watching these movies. Because even though I was having a GREAT TIME, I would go back and watch the footage of myself in the last half of the films, and I looked like an ad for the Betty Ford Clinic. I have really enjoyed what I have seen so far of the Alien series, and I agree- I think I would watch them all, the prequels too. I like a good story, and I know to keep my mind open and expectations set properly, so I think it would be fun. :) Thank you so much for being the superstar that you are!! Hey to the Hubs
@@DavidvsFilm also Sigourney is in a fantastic thriller/horror movie called Copy Cat. It’s a heck of a ride as well. She plays an Agoraphobic writer who is housebound due to an attack from a serial killer. It’s a really intense movie. If you haven’t seen that one it’s well worth the watch.
@@zenomorph8806 I have seen that, yes! many times. In fact, I just watched it probably about a year ago and was surprised at how “undated” it felt, considering it was 26 years ago now. She was over there copying and pasting on the computer back when most of us were still like, “What is Windows?” lol. And the ants in the bed- to this day, it’s the first thing my mind goes to when I think I feel a bite.
@@JTMason001 Yeah I did a reaction to The Descent here on the channel- I hadn’t seen it, and it did NOT disappoint. So I think this is more comedy/horror, but what about Cabin in the Woods?
@@DavidvsFilm Ohhhh. I’m going to have to hunt for that later, I just found your channel yesterday. Yes, CITW is more camp horror, I guess? Once I look through your videos at a better glance, I will send you some recommendations. I’m a movie nerd lol. 😁
1&2 are great, Alien 3 isn't as good but worth watching the beginning might make you mad. Alien: Resurrection is fun. The prequels are okay. And if you have seen the Predator movies then the 2 AvP movies can be entertaining.
My favourite Alien franchise film. It's got the lot. Weaver & Henn (who played newt) still keep in touch. It's the only thing Henn ever acted in. The head of the colony On lv426 also played the captain of the ship Red Dwarf in the BBC TV comedy series around the same time.
Really?? That’s cool that they still keep in touch. Henn did a good job, but my God that scream! Reminded me of every child I hear in the supermarket when they’re denied a candy they want lol. This movie was enjoyable as they “set the table” in the beginning, but then the last half- my God. Didn’t let up!! Awesome.
SPOILER ALERT: Paul Reiser's mother said she gave a standing ovation when her son was killed off (I wish they had shown what happened to him in detail, to be honest.)
The other Alien movies are entertaining, but not as good as the first two. Also, in the same universe is Predator. If you haven't seen that one yet its a must see. Like Alien the Predator sequels aren't the greatest either, but still entertaining. Then there's the "meet and greet" of the two franchises, AVP being my favorite. I think you should continue down this rabbit hole.....lol. Of course this is just my opinions.
Thank you so much! I’ve heard mention here and in the Alien comments about AVP, but not about just Predator. And I have been curious about it, because I have not seen Predator, and in fact know less about it than I did the Alien series. So thank you :)
@@DavidvsFilm You're welcome. The Predator is also a formidable alien and that's all I'll give you on that.😉 The first movie stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers.
Oh I have actually seen that one, and you are right! I saw that in the theater when I was younger (my parents liked John Goodman and made me go lol), and it definitely had an effect on me. TO THIS DAY, I still think about that movie when I reach up into a lamp shade to turn on the light.
Alien and Aliens rank in my top 10 movies of all time. My dogs are called Ripley and Bishop in honour of these two iconic characters. Loved the reaction. In my opinion the movies go downhill after the first two but are worth a watch for the sake of completing the series.
Hahaha I love that story. Thank you so much for sharing that, and for checking out the video. Appreciate it-
Another fun fact regarding Carrie Henn: This is the only movie she was ever in. I understand she became a teacher, a very good one.
They made Alien 3, two AVP movies, and two Alien prequels. I’m not sure if that’s restraint.
Screen Culture ...There are only two movies. 😎
See: Fan Discontinuity
@@servantofmelian9966 She retired at the top, lol. She was in a good movie, played a good role, had fun, and went home. She came out ahead. Too many kid stars end up messed up. She even got to go in an epic slide...
the foreshadowing with the loader at the beginning was great.
Hahaha better late than never I guess. :) Badass scene though!!
The greatest sci fi action of all time! And leave it there, no need to watch any of the rest of the series, the Alien series ends here.
@@MrBegmar You hate David or something?
agree 100%
And so Ripley, Newt, and Hicks went back to Earth got a huge settlement from the company and lived happily ever after, Bishop can come too... AND NOTHING ELSE BAD HAPPENED!
Hahahaha, SOLD!
Sound, direction, humor, effects, acting - definitely one of the best sci fi movies of all time.
Couldn't have said it better myself, Michael. So true.
One aspect of the theatrical version that I like is that you don't see the colony before the marines get there. It's left to our imagination what it looked like, and what happened. And it's easy and terrifying to imagine.
Ahhh that's pretty cool! When I rewatch this one day- and I will- I will watch the theatrical to compare. Thanks-
Exactly. We experience LV426 for the first time in 57 years along with Ripley.
James Cameron sure knows how to do sequels!!!

Best saying of the day; “It’s a Red Lobster Nightmare.”
Ha- thank you! Haven't been back to the Lobster since watching this. Just sayin
Well, you got LUCKY. Aliens3 was garbage
13:00 "Ok, here's where we lose half the team." I see you're an optimist lol.
Lol! Exactly. ;)
That's awesome!

Yeah I actually read that after watching when I went to see what else she has been in. I was shocked!
No, Newt does not die in the 3rd movie:. She has already died 'before' it starts! As is Hicks!!! So I was inclined to not like that movie almost from the get-go!!!!!
"This is by far one of the coolest fights I have seen in anything... including the mall"... Bravo darlin', 👏 👏 👏
Haha, thank you, Michelle! Glad you enjoyed!
In the Hadley's Hope scene, once of the engineers walking and talking is the captain from Red Dwarf.
Oh really?? I’m familiar with that, but haven’t watched it. Good?
@@DavidvsFilm The British tv series Red Dwarf is hilarious! Its from the late 80s and 90s but they came back and made new seasons since then. It's basically a scenario where 3 morons, a "Cat" and the dumbest and most useless AI in Sci-Fi history run a ship the size of the "star destroyer" in Spaceballs. One of the most annoying characters in the show is a sentient toaster that is far more qualified to run the ship than any of the other crew.
Dude. Sigourney Weaver is my freaking hero. I love her so much in these movies.
I mean seriously though. I wouldn't want to tangle with her!
Very, very well said. You are so right.
So glad you reviewed this film. One of the greatest! I knew you would enjoy it. It's just one of those special rare sequels. 😁
COMPLETELY agree. Thank you, Todd!
Another great comment, E.S., thank you so much! Awesome analogy, and I have to say I agree completely.
“Oh god it’s worse than an alien…it’s a child”. And that is the moment when I hit subscribe.
Haha thank you, Kent!!! I appreciate that sir. Hope you are having a great weekend.
This is one of THE best anecdotes I’ve ever read. Thank you so much for sharing this! This is amazing. ❤️

Aww thanks so much, Mark! I really appreciate that. This one had me nerved out pretty good, but I think the most stressed I've ever been was watching Breaking Bad.
Oh wow that’s cool, thank you! I appreciate the info on that- I had no idea.
And literal ‘lol’ at your last sentence haha.
As I said in my earlier comment, Alien 3 takes a hard left turn in the plot; and they were really secretive in hiding the plot from leaks before the movie.
Ripley is a kick ass female character well written without being shoved down your throat unlike all the female characters in todays films
Red Lobster Nightmare ... LOLOLOL ;)

The theatrical version is a better movie for the first time watch - tighter & more mysterious.
Thanks again, and let me know what you think on future videos, and also any suggestions. I like doing the scary ones, but there are non-suspense ones I’d like to check out too.

TOTALLY AGREE.
A fantastic movie, and I'll never forgive the third movie for trivializing the second one. Just a slap in the face to the characters, story, and fans.
Alien/Aliens are perfection. Past that it's just Burger King/McDonalds franchise. You've just seen the high mark; why hang out for the disappointment.
Why don't you, instead pursue more excellence? I am requesting two sci-fi films that will stay with you for a long time to come:
UNDER THE SKIN (2013)
EX MACHINA (2014)
Apex science fiction .
@@DavidvsFilm
My pleasue, David.
I hope you'll consider both films for reactions -
Keep up the good work.
Peace -
The reason why the sequel took so long was because they had many lawsuits, And 20th Century Fox I believe we're on the border if they should release it or not...James Cameron wrote the script and they went for it
Ahhhhh I see. Thank you for sharing that, Pinkie! I knew it had to be something like that. It was worth the wait, in my opinion. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for checking out the video :)
Was 12 when I 1st saw this bunked off school with a mate sat an watched his dad's vhs scared the shit out of me an now one of my all time best movies
I know this probably makes no sense, but it feels like movies were scarier on VHS, right??
@@DavidvsFilm think so yes lol great reaction by the way love watching movies going in blind more entertaining
You had me laughing several times in this (always check the trunk, better fight than even at the Mall).😁
Great reaction...great jumpscares.
@garveydent Thank you, garveydent! I was wondering about the predator series, so I appreciate the feedback.
Let’s not forget Michael Biehn, who was technically more of a “lead” in this movie than any of the others you mentioned, and of course will go down in history as Kyle Reece in The Terminator. James Cameron certainly had a penchant for recycling actors.
The cornbread comment is a callback to comment about cornbread in the original.
Ohhh thank you, Jamie!!
YES!!!!! I've been SO looking forward to seeing your reaction! I've got a coffee and sitting down now to watch.
Thank you so so much for your great comment. And Predator! Thank you for reminding me. I've never seen that one, and it's on my list.
Wasn't it a great movie? Love your reaction and comments.....the comment about the mall was GREAT!!!
Hi Friend!! Aww, thank you lol. I did enjoy it, yes! Very, very good. Hope you’re having a great week.
Yaaaassssss, Queen...Zenomorph!
Did NOT disappoint.
I'm going to suggest a XL peach tea film that a lot of people have never heard of.
Session 9 (2001). (you may also need a couple candles)
It's the best horror film you have never heard about.
@@ardvan Great points. Incidentally, that last sentence is how I end most my arguments when discussing movies with friends lol.
You're literally wearing the same hat I have resting on my speaker just behind the screen. Tripped me out.
Get outta here, that’s awesome lol. You have good taste. That’s one of my favorite hats.
Sold! I have seen none of those, so they meet my (preferred) requirement of first time watches. Plus they sound great. Thanks!
Definitely watch both 3&4,. Have to follow through!
@@DavidvsFilm BBWhaahaha!!! 👜💍💰
(Yea seems u was being sarcastic hope so)
Arguably the best sci-fi ever made
Both Alien and Aliens had my full attention throughout the entire movies. So so good.
Hey David 🥰
Just wanted to drop by and recommend a movie to you 😄
You gotta watch the movie Aliens vs Predators.
Better efects than some shows these days.
I don't think you caught on to Newt saying "Mommy" to Ripley at one point...
This is the theatrical cut? I've literally only seen the extended cut
I am going to watch the movie again! Thanks for sharing!
Hey buddy!! I was like, “Hey, I know a Jacob Egly!” haha. Yeah I really liked this one a lot. It was so good, I almost forgot to keep drinking lol
I never thought about that.
What movie coming next?
Hi Aran! I think Harry Potter is next on my list. :)
11:30 "There's only one thing worse than a rapist..."
And I would have said, “I would like to switch to Michael Jensen’s team.”
@@DavidvsFilm Thanks 😆

I sure hope you watch the whole franchise, I want to see your reaction to Prometheus. Also, you should watch the Predator franchise, they tie into this movie series.
I think you should definitely watch them all, regardless what anyone says, as it’s all relative to ones own liking.
I've heard great things about both of those, actually, and I've never seen the Predator movies.
@@DavidvsFilm - I think you’ll really like them, great action, some humor and fun to see the two words interact. ;)
Thank you so much for being the superstar that you are!! Hey to the Hubs
“Get the Joann Fabric Scissors!” Lmao!!! 🤣 this movie is certainly more action than the first. James Cameron movies seem to be more action packed.
Oh totally. And you know I really enjoyed the first one, but this was a helluva ride. And Sigourney! So good.
@@zenomorph8806 I have seen that, yes! many times. In fact, I just watched it probably about a year ago and was surprised at how “undated” it felt, considering it was 26 years ago now. hit like before the reaction when you said you were going with the directors cut :)
These two films (only ones I’ve seen so far) have been excellent! Thank you, James.
1&2 are great, Alien 3 isn't as good but worth watching the beginning might make you mad. Alien: Resurrection is fun.
The prequels are okay. And if you have seen the Predator movies then the 2 AvP movies can be entertaining.
The tagline was In space no one can hear you scream.
Awesome.
Mad About You at Red Lobster!
Haha haven’t been back to Red Lobster since. Just sayin.
🤣🤣🤣 11:35 - it´s worst than an alien... IT´S A CHILD!!
I mean just saying. Some of them have been known to latch on and drain the life out of you..
SPOILER ALERT: Paul Reiser's mother said she gave a standing ovation when her son was killed off (I wish they had shown what happened to him in detail, to be honest.)
Lol that’s crazy. I believe it though!
The Predator is also a formidable alien and that's all I'll give you on that.😉 The first movie stars
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers.
You should give Arachnophobia 90' a watch.
It's Check-Behind-Your-Toilet scary.
Thank you, Marcella! And I love that about your dogs' names- that's awesome.
