I think ur wrong. People often dream to attain the unattainable. What’s more realistic is, it’s hard to fall out of love with someone who can’t be yours... when we can reach something we become bored and move on to the next thing. But people are generally dreamers and we’ll reach for the impossible and we don’t give up on those dreams until all hope is lost. So that unattainable person is on our minds until it’s set in stone that we can’t have them.

Let me tell you a little story. There once was a girl who had a heart so big she loved everyone and everything. And she did so while smiling and laughing. She was an angel, sent from heaven to shine on the dark sides of the world. And there was a boy. He was hurt. He was in pain. And because of that he was jealous of that little girl. A dark pit started opening up inside of him, so dark, seemingly endless. But when she smiled at him, he felt his hate melt away, his troubles, everything. He felt happy. But she was not someone to be kept, she was supposed to be free and to spread her love to everyone. The pit inside him started boiling. "If I cannot have her to myself noone will", he thought. I'm only trying to protect her from any danger coming her way. I do it for her.
"Because I love her.", he whispered with eyes filled with rage and jealousy. He was a broken boy, abandoned, had seen the ruthless side of our world.
He lured the girl into following him and of course she did. She held his hand and smiled and he was so happy, both of them were so happy. Very happy. But that happiness did not last long.
"Why did you put me in this cage?", the girl asked curiosly. The boy smiled as he answered: "I did not put you in this cage. You went in by your own free will, remember? And now I'm going to protect you, forever. Just stay in there and nothing bad will ever happen to you." The girl did not understand any of the things the boy said to her. She could not see his hatred and fears that were creeping in his shadows following him wherever he went. So she just sat in the cage and smiled for him. He must be sad, she thought. I don't want him to be sad.

But time passed by and the eyes of the boy were still the same still locked upon the small, fragile girl in the cage.
The girl was still smiling, everyday, only for him to see.
More time passed and the boy who visited her frequently, came to visit her again that very day.
The room usually filled with light and happiness was dark. His eyes widened in terror as he quickly put ob the lights. It was too late. She was not born to be kept inside and locked away she was born to be free and bring happiness to everyone. And as she could not do what she was born to do she slowly over time started to vanish until nothing was left behind but the boy who had locked her away, her self-proclaimed protector.

I've always wondered, why would people choose to love someone even when they know that they could never be together...
I mean it seemed illogical. Like why?
Then a few years back. I met this girl, and before i knew it, we fell in love. We were togther for quite a while. We laughed, we loved, we were everything right for each other.
But then we eventually realized that we just couldn't be together. As much as we wanted to, as much as we tried to, as much as we needed to. It just wasn't meant to be.
We tried prolonging the inevitable. Until the day the inevitable finally became a reality.
It was then that i realized, we don't choose to love someone, it was never a choice. We most often don't get to pick who we want to love. Love just happens in mysterious ways, and it hurts.
Why did i fall for someone who i knew wasn't meant to be? Why did we prolong it, only to get hurt and have our hearts shattered??
