Holy crap, it’s surreal to see Eva at the Tony’s. The Noblezadas and I went to church together for years when they were living in Charlotte. Her entire family was probably the sweetest group of people I’ve ever met, her included. It’s just incredibly to see how much she’s grown as a vocalist since back then; she absolutely deserves every ounce of praise coming her way.

@Kelsey P. lol I believe you don't even bother with Potterhead. I mean Broadway stars are still regular humans who go to church you know...
Might I also add they're usually not as low profile on a daily compared to Hollywood Stars; their fanbase is a lot smaller, so it's no surprise they still are able to live in society normally.

I'm mad Lea Salogna didn't have a chance to give this type of performance at the 1991 Tonys. Instead they let Jonathan Pryce do his solo "The American Dream". No matter what a scene stealer the character of The Engineer is, I think the original production of Miss Saigon should have highlighted Kim, especially since Lea Salogna was giving her career-making performance.

I didn't see Bette Midler in Hello, Dolly! I did see Donna Murphy in Hello, Dolly! and that was an incredible experience. Dolly is just one of those roles where with the right performer/actress, is award worthy. You just have to see it live. Plus, the 2017 production of Hello, Dolly! was seriously incredibly and perfectly produced/directed/choreographed/acted. Everything was just on point. Carol Channing won the Tony for Dolly over Barbara Streisand in Funny Girl. They even gave Pearl Bailey a special Tony for bringing her all-black Dolly production to Broadway and really putting a whole new spin on the role.

This show’s history of casting also brings up controversy. Basically it’s yellow face when you cast non asians in asian roles. And also the fact that this show is based off an opera that also romanticizes white man and asian girl relationships is a big flag for certain ppl. The music might be great but there is a lot of things that rub the Asian Am community in the wrong way and I dont blame them.

I ended up seeing it later that year, and I think I was a little too young to see it, I was only 14. but my parents came with me and I cried the whole show and then afterwards cried until the theater was empty. too young. but I don't regret it for a second. it was astounding, and I think it shaped me in a way I can't describe.
edit: I forgot to mention the helicopter! it was astounding. there are no words for the helicopter. it legitimately scared me. it was supposed to. and I don't think anything can really replicate that feeling of seeing and hearing and feeling in my bones the helicopter.

I was born during the War . As a Black American I felt compassion for Vietnamese people and what they had to endure to survive the war. American GI and his Vietnamese wife raised their two children in my town and we played together. When I saw Miss Saigon on Broadway I was so moved by the musical drama I cried so bad. Then later in life I met a young Vietnamese woman who told me her father was a black American soldier during the war and she never knew her father but she was not ashamed of being part black and we talked all day about her experience as a mixed child in Vietnam and how her mom was able to bring them to America. We became good friends.
