    The past two decades have been jampacked with multiple movie franchises focused on teens stuck in some kind of game-based dystopia where their lives are at risk and everyone is dressed in gray. Along with The Hunger Games and Divergent, The Maze Runner is definitely on the list of the most well-known within that genre.
    The Maze Runner definitely raises some questions though. Like did they REALLY try everything to reach the top of those walls? How much time did these people spend naming things? How do they know what grievers are if they only come out in the maze at night, and nobody has survived a night in the maze? Do any questions get answered in this movie?
    To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to The Maze Runner.

      A good movie of course doesn't require much exposition to introduce new terms, they're written and directed in a way where, when the term is introduced, it's obvious what it applies to, and then will stick with a bit of repetition. I didn't see this movie so I don't know how well they did it.

      That's like saying a football and a baseball are the same just bc you throw both of them. The Maze Runner from start to finish (the whole movie) is about getting out of a maze and that movie, the kids, already had a head start from trying and trying. Alleigent didn’t make enough so they were just going to do straight-to-TV movies, but the actors didn’t sign up for TV pay and refused to do it. The movie always winds up getting made, no matter how ridiculous its premise. The couple always finds their happily ever after, even if the whole world seems to be against them. My favorite part about this pitch meeting is how it perfectly calls out things that the book specifically did differently because it would make more sense without mentioning the book. Like literally half the things the movie does that make no sense make way more sense in the book because they are either done differently or are able to give more context lol

    • @reaganmorris7903
      @reaganmorris7903 ปีที่แล้ว +109

      My personal favorites being that in the book Thomas incorrectly assumes that Grievers only come out at night to then be immediately corrected that they ALWAYS come out at night. The movie adapters apparently zoned out during that scene. Also the fact that Thomas got himself stung by a Griever because it had been established repeatedly in the book that going through the changing returned your memories to you, so it was a calculated risk to get more information. And he was comatose for 3 days, allowing the other Gladers to naturally exposit that the Grievers were clearly picking them off one at a time each day, explaining why they left immediately. How quintessentially Hollywood to take a super dramatic and solidly written story and inject it with nonsense to "fix it" for the silver screen.

      @AnotherLinuxDude The only book I absolutely despised was the third. It had a few good moments going for it, but as a complete story, the whole thing just dragged. I really enjoyed the first and did find myself getting into the second, but the third just killed the trilogy for me. Undoing Gally's death was where I think I just checked out. There were issues with the second, but the characters were developed in interesting ways and the worldbuilding, while requiring a hefty suspension of disbelief, was good enough to get the job done, and didn't take away from my investment in the characters.

      Yes and also in the books the maze is underground & so there actually is a roof on top of the maze. The sky is actually a massive screen meant to fool them into thinking they're outside. I believe they also programmed it to seem taller than it actually was so the boys wouldn't even try to climb it.

    I just finished the audio book, and I gotta say, I understand changing things because they wouldn't translate well from page to screen or to cut down on runtime, but it seems like the writers intentionally changed things and cut out short, simple explanations for the sole purpose of having the movie make less sense than the book.

      @winchesters4life34 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I just read the book a couple months ago for the first time, and I watched the first movie for the first time today. honestly, part of the problem I was having with the adaptation was how quickly things moved. for one, they completely left out the telepathy, idk if it comes up later or not at all but I was really excited for that scene because I wanted to see how Dylan would act it out, since he's generally amazing in dramatic moments like that, but they completely glazed over it. also, I imagined the grievers as much more machine-like, I mean they are partly the same but these grievers feel too organic, too monstery. they got the gross fleshy part right, but I always imagined that grievers would have more methodical movements. also, in the book, grievers would easily have known Thomas was hiding in the vines, and Minho ran off long before Thomas got the idea to string up Alby to protect him. that was why Minho was so impressed with Thomas, because Thomas didn't give up, and still tried to save Alby. also, idk if it was just Ryan misunderstanding what was going on when the grievers stung or if that is actually what is happening in the movie, but the grievers don't give you the flare, they just cause you to get your memory back.
      I guess what I'm trying to say is that, by rushing things, the movie created far more plot holes than if it had kept things the way they were.
