Hubbard was the pioneer. He let us hear the SID chip's potential. Follin unlocked that potential and more. Only Galway and possibly Jereon Tel stand up to him. His music was stunning, magical, and way beyond what shoud've been possible. Love Ghouls 'n' Ghosts 8 (Level 2) - so brilliant - as is every track in the game.

Tim Follin and a whole lot of other artists, eg Rob Hubbard done the SID chip a whole lot of justice and pushed the boundaries of what can be achieved with a (then) simple music chip. They were all masters then and 30+ years later, we are all still clapping in awe of their work. Does that not demonstrate their ability and hold over us over all this time as master craftmen of all time so far? I think it does, without a doubt. If only their creativity was strong on todays efforts.

He came in quite late to the C64 when Hubbard, Galway, Whittaker and all the others were already legends since 1983/1984 and Follin didn't really get in on the action until 1987 when he was hired by Software Creations, the dawn of 8-bit computing. He moved on to make console music after a handful of C64-games.

I for one loved the visualization. Makes me think of classic old isometric games, and I think they really managed to convey the wonderful dynamics of the music, especially the first track - that kind of dynamics in the sound were not possible on most other computer sound hardware at the time.
Personally I would have preferred if you had used the first mission song from Bionic Commando though, the SID stuff in the middle of that song is beyond awesome.

For peopple who were kids in the Tim Follin and Rob Hubbard decade were witness to some of the most spectacular music ever produced from on SID chip. Not like these days. They pushed the boundaries with what was available and make spectacular results. These days it's just reallly lazy and very sloppy coding. Bring back the 80's coders, they knew how to capture and remain as top of the league of their audience. Not only that, but how to make a gamer think with their atmospherics. Awesome :)

I loved it back on the c64, they really did push it to produce some awesome effects which I imagine even commodore themselves were probably suprised by. If anything, I wish they'd stop developing pc hardware for a bit and see what limits you really could push out of your pc, just like the c64. But you know that will never happen! Ah well eh! :)
