Hey spearmintz I just want to thank you for uploading videos on FTL. I recently bought it for $4 and just got my first win ever with the Engi A thanks to your tips and playthroughs. Keep doing what you’re doing man. And thank you again.
The Hull Missile deals double damage (4) to rooms with no systems. Against the unmanned ship at 3:55, for example, you could shoot for the top right room and end the fight with one fewer missile launched. That kind of play can make the Bulwark somewhat more viable.
Personally, I really like the rock ships look and general aesthetic, I wish it had something other than just missile launchers at the start, it’s nice to see you play weaker ships as we get to see how to play them, thank you :)
What the hell? From phase 1 of the flagship they had no crew. Wonder what made that happen. I assumed they were just being dumb and trying to fix shields or something and got killed
Oh man I didn't even notice! It must have been a glitch because of the mod I thought I un-installed from before this recording session. Can't imagine I would have had much trouble anyways since my ship was insanely powerful, but that's unfortunate that the crew bugged like that:(
@@spearmintz1 oh yeah, I didn’t even think of that. Didn’t that kinda make it harder though? I thought people specifically left 1 crew member alive to not trigger the AI or something, not sure exactly what that does to be honest, I’m pretty new
@@Bunnymafia8150 haha yeah, if the autopilots on it makes the repairs and everything faster I believe, so I really did a challenge run on accident I suppose!
There's something I just like about youtubers who also hold down a full time job, kinda' makes me feel a kinship with them. I mean I would be super happy if a youtuber I liked like you became big enough to make youtube or streamjng their full time job, but you know what I mean I hope. We're all working lads basically :) You're an entertaining and down to earth guy I think you could make it streaming or youtubing to be honest, or at least supplement your income until you become big enough to do it ft. You'd have to play some flavour of the month games now and then probably but you could definitely do it. Far as games go I love your ftl vids, I think you'd be a great darkest dungeon creator too. Darkest dungeon 2 is not far off so that could be your ticket man, I'm quite sure that will be pretty big on the streaming scene for a little while and those "in"s can really get a channel going. There are loads of guys that got their channel launched into the good money making zone just from being in the right place at the right time with the right personality and that's what you gotta go for. You can always branch out and introduce variety once the audience is established. That's if you're even interested in being a full time entertainer :p just offering a suggestion! But let me tell you we're all starved of genuine, entertaining and down to earth normal guys who think and talk like us, don't dye their hair green, scream on camera or fake excitement. There's a gap there bud so be on the lookout! Anyway sorry for the long post buddy
Hey man this means a ton!! Definitely got big plans for the channel and I'm glad I've struck a chord with some folks! Definitely seeing where this takes me, thanks for coming by!
I swear to god I literally get to the final battle with the exact same weapons and upgrades but their shots all miss or hit empty rooms for you whereas their shots hit core components and set fires and breach me. Guess I just gotta get better, keep up the uploads man love em. Would love to see some drone gameplay!
Yeah the game is definitely heavy on the RNG elements, but in the end its all about what you make of the luck you're given. Engines are an upgrade that really go under the radar, by the end I had almost a 50% chance to dodge all projectiles, plus well timed cloaking, makes my ship near unhittable. Keep at it! The first victory feels awesome!
@@spearmintz1 Man I literally just got my first win with the default ship on normal mode today. I always felt like cloak is a must-have for the final battle but I actually won without cloak and had mind control. Now I relaise all the extra components are actually super useful and I need to experiment more with components and weapons and augments otherwise I will also lose and blame RNG for not giving me exactly what I want. Thanks for the help man, without you videos I would still be rushing to the warp beacon in every sector lol.
@@TheBiomedZed Hey man good stuff!!! Glad I could help! gotta take your time to get maximum scrap, there are so many elements that go into a winning run, it's why I love this game
happens to me all the time too, where enemies focus fire my weapons and shields and then i watch streamers and the ai always does stupid stuff when streamers play but then they screw me over when i play
Also if a ship cannot possibly deal you damage, like the drone at 15:15, you may as well let it have its weapon systems, since then you might dodge its attacks and train your pilot and engineer.
I'd personally like to see you do a "Loss of Cabin Pressure" achievement run on a non-lanius ship. You won't actually get anything from it, but it'll be really fun to play, I think. Also, what would your opinion of an "Artillery Bomb" be? Essentially, my version of it would be a Breach Bomb Mk. 2 that doesn't use any missile parts, and follows the standard rules regarding artillery weapon cooldown. (One point of power would take 50 seconds to reload, two points of power would have 40 seconds, etc.) Also, you probably weren't paying paying attention at the time, but that was the ship collector event at (39:05).
This. Had to check this and jump straight to 55:00 to see weapon roll. Flak 1, Burst 2 and a Halberd. With a roll like that it doesn't matter what kinda shitbox you are rolling with.
Just getting on your feet with these ships can be a slog. When you don't get the right shops at the right times, you're likely to delay your second shield bubble FAR too long and fail, and having to buy missiles in the mean time garnishes too much off the top of your income. Oh and placement of the medbay and 02 systems in opposite corners with rock crew is DEVASTATING.
Used the Rock A Cruiser yesterday. Found two Scrap Recovery Arms, two Flak Guns, and a Glaive Beam. With Cloaking and Mind Control, easiest Flagship win I've gotten
I hate this ship. I usually buy a crew teleporter because missiles compliment crew kills well; you don't usually have to use more than 1 or 2 to disable weapons / medbay. Also because, I always run out of missiles before I find a decent weapon. This strategy is how I've beaten hard mode a few times.
I had a run with the missile augment that has the 50% chance to refund a missile for each shot, I had an insane run with the hull missile and a Hermes I picked up
I both loved and hated this video/run. It's nice to see that it *"theoretically"* CAN be done but I hate that he got as lucky as he did. If I ever had the luck he had, even half of it, anyone could do it. I would like to see a run where it's a normal amount of luck, not an insanely lucky start like he got. He barely had to do anything. By pure *SKILL* I got all the way to the flagship, beat it once then had to chance it to repair but I lost cause I counted the rounds wrong (wouldn't have mattered cause I was left with like 3hp). All that while I continuously being set on fire and boarded the ENTIRE run! That ship is cursed. It's cursed.
you fail to understand the impact of ones skill on your luck. My method of playing, involving strategically going to every shop I can, planning my routes, managing and saving my money, all so I could pivot off of missiles as soon as possible, is pure skill. Luck plays an element in every aspect of this game, but I didn't win this "because I was lucky." It was 90% skill, rouglikes are about using your knowledge to minimize the danger of RNG, and maximize the gains of RNG. Just like you getting to the final boss is skill, and you forgetting to count the proper rounds and losing on the final battle is your lack of skill.
I think rock ships should get to buy missiles from the store for 4 scrap instead of 6. That would make them more viable in the worst case, and have no impact in the best case. I think it would improve ship balance
I’d say boarding too can also help. The teleporter being right next to the heal bay is super handy for the slow rock boarders to get healed up after every fight
I absolutely detest this ship. Back when FTL was first released, long before Advanced Edition came out and made the Crystal Cruiser quest so much easier, there was this damn thing and its abusive relationship with RNGesus. It took me three weeks of playing this ship to unlock the crystal cruiser because so many things could go wrong.
@@spearmintz1 well hey, I hope your channel grows, I like your content! your voice is coming through well; keep in mind that sound treatment, even if it just means having clothes hanging in the room or something, should be the first thing-if the fundamentals of sound treatment aren't attended to, even a 3000 dollar mic won't deliver a good sound
Rock A is by a substantial margin my least favorite ship. The layout is especially bad with a starting crew of uber-slow rocks. The weapon loadout is awful as well, but everybody notices that first thing about the Rock A. Few people talk about the layout.

Interesting that both the enemy at 8:48 and the enemy at 17:01 claim to be the dread pirate Tuco. Maybe it is like the dread pirate Roberts?
And then another one at 59:40! The galaxy’s swimming with them!
How do you get those lines that shows how many turns it will take for the federation to reach the exit?

You're good enough to play on hard. Play on hard. the adrenaline rush is amazing. The most hardcore players play on hard with pause disabled.
The most kind of annoying thing is saying "kind of annoying" 9 million times in a video.
