and the thing to finish the flagship was the very same drone that he held since the begining! what a fitting end for an engi vessel. i feel like this is canomically what happenned in ftl lore now
The problem with drones is that they intentionally fly right into the enemy weapon beams as they shoot in order to waste as many drone parts as possible.
It’s good, but the wind up time kills you. If you don’t have something to keep you alive for the 35ish seconds it takes to hit full power you’re boned. Also if it gets hit or hacked it loses its progress and you have to restart that 35 second timer
@@Alphadog2064 I think we all know it's a gimmick weapon compared to Burst Laser II, Flak Gun, and Halberd. But it's a fun as hell gimmick. I just put threw out Hacking, cloaked to get that free shot at the start and loaded some 1 cost weapons in the other two slots to act as a buffer for Ion.
I remember that the Engi A was actually the first ship I beat on Normal difficulty. I do think it's harder in the advanced edition though. There are a lot more anti-drone stuff, and more aguments means that the Drone Recovery Arm is harder to come by. For the Engi A, I also like to keep the outer doors open to space. Since there's no systems in those room and it's not a hallway, there's no reason to ever keep them not vented. For Phase 3, it's also good to actually hack their Mind Control -- their Level 3 Mind Control is absolutely killer. Hacking it frees your crew and also takes control of one of theirs. One advanced tactic I haven't noticed you doing is swapping crew members in a room. Pause, move both crew members out, and move them back in the order you want. Since enemies only attack the guy in their square, you can swap crew members to keep a 2 on 1 situation.
The fight at 31:15 is a summary of my entire experience with this game. I always run into the most overpowered ships in the first 3 rooms. It's absurd. Usually can't upgrade because I'm spending all my money repairing from near death (if not just dying).
Loving the FTL content! This was hardcore to the last man! You did seem to have ridiculously horrible RNG at times, but glad to see such a close finish.
Hey! Your videos convinced me to but ftl! Idea for a future video: tier list of ships and their layouts, then maybe separate videos for weapons, drones etc?
i like youre energy, good commentary! this video actually helped me getting the flag ship beaten with this ship, and overall get much better at the game! thank you.
two small bombs and halberd beam. drone /mindcontrol/cloaking upgrades maxed out and one defensive and boarding drone. You need to be lucky with stores and resources.
Do you have mods or something your Shields look weird it shows you where The Rebel Fleet will be in every jump and at 6:48 you can see the Zoltan that doesn't look normal
When I play this ship I always look for the drone recovery arm, and go 3x combat 1. As long as you can deal with the cost in drone parts, combat drones just melt everything. The strength of engi ships is they get 3 drones, so the REAL way to win with an Engi A is to play to its strength. 3 combat 1s or 2 combat 1 defense 2 is really powerful. You gotta spend alot of power on that many drones so you can't afford big guns and cloaking and all that. That strategy is better played on stealth or kestrel.
You probably know this by now but I’m pretty sure all ships charge their ftl when you out of fuel to stop situations where you can’t do anything to their ship but you can’t run because no fuel.
You can micro the iion shots, especially early game, to take down the shield and then assist with taking out the weapons.... on the first fight of the run you had an opportunity to be completely safe yet you didnt use your incredible weapon to shut down theirs...
Apparently if you have infinite drones, 2 combat 1 and 1 combat 2 + 2 drone augments... and max everything. You will not beat the Rebel Flagship. Shields are just too much.
3 years late but dude the scrap recovery arm buy is a scam. On average if you get it in the first sector It will only net you 200 scrap more by the last stand maybe. Short term survivability vs 200 extra scrap if you survive.
So, question: does shield pierce stack? For example if you have two heavy lasers shoot an empty room at the same time, would it damage through a 2-shield ship?
no. It's why beam weapons are like halberd are garbage unless you have a way to take out their shields once you get to ships that have 2 shields or higher. It's why missles and bombs are devastating but also impractical since it needs ammo. 1 missle, 1 beam, 1 laser, 2 drone with recovery arm, and you have a strong attack ship. What I prefer are two burst lasers with three shots each so you can kill all shields at a cost of 4 power but good luck finding them on one run. Then I like 2 attack drones with recovery arm so my drones get recovered. It's a good attack system that saves resources. Drones with a recovery arm is one of my favorite things in the game. But to each their own because you have to play with what the game gives you.
People who hate on Engi A have no idea how incredibly powerful Drones actually are with Ion weaponry. You don't need to pray to RNGsus as much when you can auto-suppress shields or two subsystems of your choice out of the box with just the Ion Blast Mk 2. The only real weakness of the ship is its lack of a 4th weapon bay.
You should have sended all your crew except engine and pilot to fight the boarders in the medbay at the end, not just the rock, he cant handle 3 men even in the medbay. That photo finish through, wow.
Understandable but part of the draw is I want to see him win with this ship. I wouldn’t mind watching runs that fail but rn I wanna see engi A taken to the top
Was doing runs while watching this, instead of after watching this, then my ship had only 1 crew (Engi B) and he died to a disease on a derelict ship, so rough.
I love how at the end, it said ’’Thanks to the Torus and her successful crew:’’ and then there was just a blank space because there were no more crew
That was actually an insane ending. The crew had to sacrifice their lives to save the day
and the thing to finish the flagship was the very same drone that he held since the begining! what a fitting end for an engi vessel. i feel like this is canomically what happenned in ftl lore now
The problem with drones is that they intentionally fly right into the enemy weapon beams as they shoot in order to waste as many drone parts as possible.
I would have shamelessly sold weapons and changed my whole ship loadout for that daddy Vulcan.... lol
Got my first win yesterday with a Vulcan and I’m like holy shit this is good

Vulcan + either a Flak 1 or a Fire Bomb makes my peepee hard. ps- anyone know what those yellow bubbles around his engi are?

Crew member swap @ 1:11:27. I just happened to be at that bit while reading the comment.
The 2nd Engi Med Bot was immediatly broken down to 25 scrap because you can't have it twice.
Sadly this means he wasted 15 scrab, 2 missles, 2 drones.
The fight at 31:15 is a summary of my entire experience with this game. I always run into the most overpowered ships in the first 3 rooms. It's absurd. Usually can't upgrade because I'm spending all my money repairing from near death (if not just dying).
Did you do it?
Spearmintz: Yes.
What did it cost?
Spearmintz: Everything...
legit photo finish ending
Rebel crew after conquering the Torus in combat but seeing their flagship blow up outside the window: "Huh"
The 3 survivors could totally steal the Torus at the end there, the flagship may be gone but the rebels live on!
Watching these videos got me wanting to try FTL again after all these years
Why did you stop?
@@twintyara6330 im bad at it
Fun point: when you where oxygen starving the slug, just move your rock guy from doors to sensors. That way you can check on the enemy status.
during the fight with the slug interceptor at 49:30, I was like "put your rock in sensors, lets see them suffocate!"
Loving the FTL content! This was hardcore to the last man! You did seem to have ridiculously horrible RNG at times, but glad to see such a close finish.
holy shit, epic finish. Take this sub good man.
what mods other than the predictive jumps were you using for this run? Awesome video and great channel!
Hey! Your videos convinced me to but ftl! Idea for a future video: tier list of ships and their layouts, then maybe separate videos for weapons, drones etc?
I love tier lists, so I'd definitely consider it!
Could it have been this comment, the chosen one. The one to lead us into a new level of popularity?
i like youre energy, good commentary! this video actually helped me getting the flag ship beaten with this ship, and overall get much better at the game! thank you.
the Ion Blast II fires faster than their shield recharges, so you can get a few ion hits on their weapons systems in the early game.
Engi was my first win, and it was down to 1 hull with a lot of crew dead too. My Kestrel runs were just cursed for the longest.
Also yo.. that little combat drone was fucking clutch.
two small bombs and halberd beam. drone /mindcontrol/cloaking upgrades maxed out and one defensive and boarding drone. You need to be lucky with stores and resources.
So that was an interesting beat the game with drones mission with all of one drone ^^
That was absolutely mental
Do you have mods or something your Shields look weird it shows you where The Rebel Fleet will be in every jump and at 6:48 you can see the Zoltan that doesn't look normal
Yea it’s a visual FTL mod, doesn’t change anything else tho
Jesus that ending was clutch

My map does not have these circles to paln the way to the exit. is this a mod?
Hey. How can one get those lines on the jump map to show how far the rebels are going to jump? Couldn't find a setting for it.
It's a mod. Just google ftl mods and it will be there.
@@Winasaurus can't find the mod :/
upd: found, it's Extended Pursuit Indicator
First victory I had against the flagship was with this ship.
I finally finish kestrel A normal now trying engi a
The ending was wild!

Really damn close!
Epic victory.
that was such a clutch holy shit
When you’re jumping within a sector, how do you get it to display the projected rebel fleet throughout the whole sector?
It's a mod.

True! However, you get a drone slot instead. And if you score a drone recovery arm, its kind of OP.
say what you will about drones but that iconic Combat I got the dub in the end of this
this is what happends to my 80% of the times, its so dumb. 31:40
"Successful" crew.
I had a victory last night where be and the rebel flagship hit zero health at the same time and I somehow came away with the W.
well to win you don't need to live, just to kill the flagship :D

Lmao i played this while i was playing the engi ship and died on the last stage of the rebel ship 5 minutes after you won
How to winh with Engi A?
By throwing everything you got and pray
I think having it be known that it's a win in the title makes it less engaging
Understandable but part of the draw is I want to see him win with this ship. I wouldn’t mind watching runs that fail but rn I wanna see engi A taken to the top
Now do it with engi B
I got this as my first ship that isn't the Kestrel but i don't use it since it's so ugly
I once had two ion 2s, two combat drone 2s, and an ion stunner. Best game with type A ever. Never did non-drone damage.

"how do you win with a drone build"
You don't
With an additional ion weapon and the enemy is weak, you can asphyxiate them
dont put your guys in medbay you start with med bots
I really hate the engi A ship.
The Engi A is so bad, the best way to play it is to pivot away from what it is designed to do.
Was doing runs while watching this, instead of after watching this, then my ship had only 1 crew (Engi B) and he died to a disease on a derelict ship, so rough.
