Interesting seeing state troopers in the city, usually sit in the area on the free way usually, nice seeing the victoria, but fun fact to anyone actually talking to the troopers myself, they only make tahoes, chargers for troopers now and no longer the explorers or vics, you learn something new every day

State police can and will back up city and county police as needed. If NYPD has a lot of incidents going on then they may request help from other departments. Look at 9/11 for example (an extreme case mind you). City cops had their hands full and state sent in backup. It doesn't matter what department cops work at. There have been multiple times where officers in totally different jurisdictions just happened to hear shots fired calls (we will use that as an example) over the radio and they run code three to help.

No - growing up in NYC in the 90s and 2000s aside from NY State Park Police in the state parks within the city limits seeing a state trooper in NYC limits was rare -Cuomo and Deblasio didnt get along so Cuomo insisted on having his state police boys around the the city limits as a jab to Deblasio - truth - he put Troopers on the intercity bridges and tunnels even tho we had the city owned TBTA police on them - he even had the TBTA police cars repainted in NYS police colors to piss Deblasio off..

What was the NYSP rushing to the scene for, the NYPD has it, it's their show. I guess "show" is the key word.

Because they are the state police.
The reason NYSP is responding is because any large incidents in the state must have a state police officer on the scene.
