    This shape of Escort has grown on me considerably. I wasn't keen when they came out but they look quite classic now. I'd definitely get those tyres changed though, the rubber is probably very hard and the performance especially in the wet could be dangerous.

    The engine is in really good health, as well as being so clean. I can tell this HCS unit has been meticulously serviced, in that it sounds very sweet and lively, and without doubt would be very economical. Very good little engines really.

Great viewing for people with no patience but not helpful to those who want to learn something.

    My dads friend has a ex parcel force white mk6 escort 5 door hatchback 1.8td encore which he brought off us about 18years go.
    We struggled to sell it so had it for a loan car. And everyone who drove it we’re surprised how quick it was. It’s surprising rust free but it still goes like the clappers but apart from PAS it is very basic.

    I'm inordinately happy that the rear wiper metalwork is still the original! I really wouldn't trust those tyres though, not above 30mph anyway. Very surprised they passed the MOT, but I guess they must think they are okay, and obviously aren't leaking. The rear suspension looks like it may benefit from a coat of kurust too.

    FYI
    The rear wiper isn’t an original 1990 item. It’s one that’s been replaced and in the early 2000’s Ford put a wear dot on the blades so when it’s yellow it’s time to replace the blade. When new the disc is black.
    The car does look in good condition for a early Mk5 escort.

    I must say that 1.3 HCS engine seems noticeably sweeter and more refined than the bigger CVH engines. I think those CVHs were one of the main critiques of a lot of Fords of the 80s and 90s, as well as the uninspiring driving dynamics - that latter part is likely negated with time, since these now drive like light, engaging early 90s cars.

    • @MorselsAndMotors

    Check brake flexi pipes. They can collapse internally. Causing fluid to not return causing binding brakes esp on the front. Also piston seals may be hard. The flex moves the piston pads off discs. The seals being hard will not have that side flex within the caliper bore. Also calipers slide were notorious for being sticky. Did loads of them.
    I'd replace every flexi pipes. Replicas can be remade. I replaced all flexi pipes on my Audi 100 gls. The oldest in UK. Time served mechanic.

    Did you not know that with a failed mot and no current mot it's illegal to drive home. Sorry but my car got written off because it was hit by afailed mot and no valid mot or insurance driver.

    • @markf4720
      @markf4720 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The gov.uk website says if your MOT has run out you can drive it somewhere "to have the failed defects fixed". They cannot insist you get this done at a garage rather than fix it yourself at home. So if your car fails the MOT and the previous MOT is expired, I can't see why you cannot drive it directly home to fix the failed defects (as long as they are not classified as dangerous) and then back to the MOT station for a pre-booked retest.

    • @Kizzerdee
      @Kizzerdee ปีที่แล้ว

      The car does not have a valid mot therefore it can not be driven home as is not road legal. Just saying. Not here to argue with anyone and I am all for saving classic cars. Don't want anyone to have the same experience as I had as i would hope its a one off.

    • @markf4720
      @markf4720 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kizzerdee not here to argue either, just discuss :). There are exceptions to the rule about driving with no MOT if your car has just failed. But the car must still be "roadworthy" if you do drive it. Failing an MOT doesn't necessarily mean it would automatically be considered unroadworthy, but in this case with service brakes imbalanced/sticking it may be considered unroadworthy (and of course if that turned out to be the cause of a crash then an insurance company may well not want to pay out). As is often the case, the law cannot be specific to every case and so it would have to be interpreted for individual cases if something happened. I agree that if in any doubt, the best thing to do is not drive it on the road. Sorry to hear what happened to your car. Out of interest, did they have no insurance at all, or was it invalidated because they had a failed MOT and expired MOT? And what did it fail on and did that contribute to the cause of the crash?
