QT- even if the lady wasn’t a scam… she’s morally wrong for scaremongering to push her own product on frightened women😢 SO happy you got a second opinion who had a much more holistic approach for you!!
as a 19 yr old female and a viewer of wine about it, press esc, and sweet and sour, it's been really enlightening learning about PCOS and other health related experiences! I'm really grateful y'all are so open about it, it's made me be less scared about wanting to learn more about my own health! thank you ladies!!
oh my god, yes! i wanted to share the same feeling. i was diagnosed with PCOS since i was 11 years old and i have been on and off birth control, metformin and seeing endocrinologist for as long as i can fucking remember (i’m 27 year old now) and my eating habits are not so great and losing weight is difficult. i was even prescribed ozempic by my most recent endocrinologist… i tried it for about a month and it wasn’t for me. i fought so hard not to continue taking it. and with not so great eating habits; thinking about numbers makes so nervous and anxious to even think about so it is hard and feels very lonely. i am glad more people are speaking up about it!! ❤
There’s a big difference between celebrity doctors and normal doctors. Celebrity doctors are expensive because they expect that you can advocate for yourself and they will give you whatever it is you want. If you’ve got money, and bring that money into a doctor patient situation, the doctor patient relationship is different. QT is unfortunately someone with a lot of medical anxiety and isn’t able to effectively advocate for herself in medical situations, and she walked into the complete wrong type of doctor for herself. She can complain to the medical board if she wants, but nothing will come of it. Not that it matters because she has found the right gyno for herself now, but in future, if QT wants to use celebrity doctors, her assistant should be arranging the visits and providing clear information to the doctor about QT’s needs. That’s where celebrity doctors excel, at delivering on the specific requests of their patients.
@@samfuel She didn't have specific requests, though, and they pressured her into treatments regardless. Not to mention they told her information that is false then recommended and tried to book her in for an (unnecessary, anyway) operation based on a scan that the other doctor showed literally couldn't lead to the diagnosis that they used as justification for the operation. Qt mentioned that the Dr kept mentioning irregular periods even though she corrected her multiple times, so clearly advocation for yourself is being ignored. The doctor is medically negligent, so it does matter even though qt has found a good alternative gyno, if nothing comes from reporting it that doesn't mean that's correct.
@@samfuel still very sketchy to make it seem like qt NEEDs the supplement and not disclosing that SHE is the one who made it. Also pressuring the patient to make appointments immediately
Idk who that person is saying that "celebrity" doctors are held to a different standard but that is just not true. All physicians in a state have to have their states licensing in order to practice and there absolutely is a standard of care and standard of ethics that must be met with every patient. Reporting your concerns to your states medical board is your right. Patients are also never expected to be knowledgeable on health care, yes you advocate for yourself by describing your symptoms and knowing your right to refuse treatment whenever, but you are not expected to know more than the average patient no matter where you go. Doctors that work with celebrities are so expensive because if they don't take insurance, they can charge as much as they want for a procedure. Insurance companies do a lot in terms of regulating health care costs because they force physicians to keep their prices at a minimum, but they also allow the majority of the population to be able to access those physicians services so its sort of a give and take. Source: I work in healthcare, report your concerns to your states medical board and possibly any associations they are part of (like the gynecology association). The doc sounds like she's breaking a ton of ethical codes/legal standards and is exploiting patients.
Metformin really isnt like Ozempic. Having been on metformin over 20 years, had a kidney failure due to diabetes and a subsequent transplant. Metformin and Ozempic both assist type2 diabetes, but in different ways. Ozempic helps create more insulin, metformin helps your body absorb insulin
@@Talandriaa Thank you. I was afraid Id come across as mansplaining, and that wasnt the desired outcome. I know when a Dr tells you something like "you'll be on this medication for life" its a lot to take in and can be overwhelming, just wanted to offer a lived experience (I wish metformin WAS like Oz cause I would gladly lose some weight lol)
@@shaughnsimpson441as a woman, this isn't mansplaining at all so dont worry! 😊 mansplaining is more along the lines of explaining at a woman & shaming them in some way- example like "so to use a powerdrill since you wouldnt know anyways, (and then physically take it and show them)" rather than just saying smth like "so to use this powerdrill there's a button on the side, you press that and you hold the base.. etc etc"
@@squiddlebeans Yes, exactly, or explaining something a woman would surely already know when they haven't actually said anything incorrect. Like if QT was an endocrinologist (Dr who specializes in hormonal illnesses) and a random guy tried to explain to her the difference between metformin and Ozempic lol. The comment here is helpful and respectful. ❤
I'm really glad that QT got a second opinion, it's more important than people realize. It makes me happy that these two both have people they can call who they trust.
I love this pod so much and I really love that they’re trying new things to upgrade our experience but I will say, I feel like scene switching to focus on just QT or just Maya throughout a story really works directly against the absolute biggest pro of these being recorded online which is the constant close up on both of their faces and not missing their expressions/reactions. it makes sense as an occasional thing but only when it’s specifically worth the cost of not seeing the other. this is just my viewer 2 cents. and I also apologize since it wasn’t asked for. much love!!
51:49 @ Maya ‘s point about heritable cancer: My profession is a genetic counselor, this stuff is our bread and butter!! Everyone has genes called tumor suppressor genes (TSG), they work to stop and kill mutant cells before they turn into cancer. When we grow older, our cells start to make mistakes and once both copies of a TSG in a cell are working improperly, that cell will become cancerous. Some people are born with a germline variant (or error) in one copy of a TSG. Germline means that variant is in every cell in your body. So every cell already has one non-functioning copy of a TSG. It then only needs to have one error (a second hit) to become cancer. This means the person is pre-disposed to cancer, and that variant can be passed onto their children. BRCA1 & BRCA2 are the most well known TSGs because of how severe the increases in cancer risk are. There are many other TSGs that can be defective, with varying levels of severity. Re:Maya’s mom’s testing being ‘outdated’, when we first started doing this genetic testing, we only knew of a few certain types of variants that could cause disease, so that’s the only thing we tested for. Since then, research and testing methodologies have evolved and advanced to test many new types of variants. Without getting into too many details, BRCA1/2 had a revolution in how we tested for them in 2006, and then again 2012. So if Maya’s mom had testing a long time ago, scientists could only test for what we knew to test for at that time. That’s why updated testing would be recommended. However, because Maya’s mom is the one who had cancer, she’s the best person to test first to determine if she has a hereditary form of breast cancer. Maya, you can get testing if you want, but there are definitely many pros & cons for you to consider. Definitely avoid 23&Me BS!!! Consider having your mom and/or yourself meet with a genetic counselor to discuss what they think and what they might recommend!!!!! ALWAYS CONSULT A HEALTH PROFESSIONAL BEFORE MAKING ANY DECISIONS ABOUT YOUR HEALTH! And if it’s anything related to genetics, please go see a GENETICS professional (many doctors and others healthcare professionals who don’t work in/with genetics regularly have no clue what they are talking about)! Sincerely, Just a fan who happens be a genetic counselor working in genetics and knows weirdly specific things about this specific topic.
Yeah, I was diagnosed w PCOS at the beginning of this year. (28 year old girlie pop). I couldn’t lose weight for the life of me. No matter what I did. Metformin was the only thing that helped my body use the insulin properly, which in turn helped me lose some weight. Also, “I don’t even know if I want kids, I just want the choice” is SO real qt. I am right there with you on that. Also, I had every single type of blood work imaginable to figure out what my hormonal issues were. I spent about 5 months back and forth visiting my Primary care doctor to rule out every single hormonal thing possible. They tested me for Cushing’s which is something that can mimic pcos. But luckily my issue was PCOS , with insulin resistance. I say luckily because although it’s not lucky to have pcos by any means, something like Cushing’s is even more complicated in my opinion at least.
Had to come back to this video to comment this! I have been going to my old gyno for three years now, with no diagnosis of PCOS. This video convinced me to go seek a second opinion! Today I’ve been diagnosed with PCOS from a new gyno 🎉🎉 Thank you Maya and QT!
guest eps are fun but I also really just look forward to listening to QT and Maya yap to each other about their lives and I’ve really missed the weekly catchup segments ❤
As someone who is studying to be an OB/GYN right now, this episode made me so happy! That first doctor seems crazy and I'm glad you got a second opinion. I find this kind of thing so interesting to learn and listen to so Im so happy my fav podcast is talking about it!!!!!
I’m not liking the single shots of just QT and just Maya. I like when it’s done seldomly to highlight a funny face but this is too much. Just keep them both on the screen please
Dude, this episode was such a rolley coaster. I also have noticed that not only QT has heat immunity that allows her to remove scalding pans from ovens, she also has an incredibly high pain tolerance, she is built different.
Good job QT! That would've been so nerve-wracking at the time and you handled it like a champ. I'm so sorry basically every woman has gone through something along a similar vein. I know I have.
That's why she doesn't want to submit anything through insurance and just get paid directly because insurance would deny the shit out of everything she's doing
that voice memo of her telling you all the things that are wrong with you might make great evidence for a malpractice suit btw. You should probably consider talking to someone legally about it, so that she doesn't take advantage of other women in vulnerable states, in even worse ways.
the fact that the first gyno had the balls to tell you to make a voice recording of everything she said is so gross. like she was so confident scaring you into thinking you urgently needed a major surgery for a problem she objectively couldn't have diagnosed you with... insanely ethically bankrupt
Between this and Rae and Alythuh's podcast, I've learned so much about pcos, which is good because my mom has it but struggles to talk about health stuff
@Henry_Smith_862 No PCOS has just been very under diagnosed historically, and with the rise of social media, people have gotten more information on the condition to try and get diagnosed
As a pharmacist, the conversation around metformin and Ozempic got me thinking HOW MANY TIMES HAVE THESE (talented and respectable) WOMEN gave me wrong info about subjects I have no expertise in!!!!??? lmaooo
Except never had either of them given advice, they just talk about their experience which often they are misinformed... By professionals mind you... Just fact check anything and never do anything medically based on what a podcaster says about their own personal experience.
UGH I'm so glad you got a second opinion and are getting a third! And I'm even more glad you shared it AND listened to help!!! It is harder for women to be heard by a doctor when we have problems! I know that shit first hand too. Always ask questions. Always stand up for yourself you're the only one who will!
If u go to a Dr that doesn't take insurance immediately assume they're gonna scam u. First visit and throws all of these diagnoses, medications, and surgeries at u without further tests and on the spot blood work is super sketchy.
I have pcos and none of my doctors have done anything but put my on birth control for the past 12 years. I’m now on a slew of other meds for other issues but I’ve taken spironolactone daily for two years or so and that has helped a bit. I’m going to the gyno for the first time in years this week so .. wish me luck
I've also have pcos and my first doctor put me on birth control without diagnosing me. Took it for 3 months it destroyed me mentally and physically. Dropped it. Second doctor finally diagnosed me with pcos but now he's also suggesting birth control to regulate my periods, even though I don't want to take it. Curious to know how's been your experience with birth control cause it seems like a bandaid kinda fix to this very complex and delicate condition. Every women seems to be put on it.
I hope you find support through this soon. I also have PCOS, and my primary treatment comes from an Endocrinologist, so if you feel a Gyno isn't really addressing your needs, a doctor whose job is also about hormones may be worth a shot!
everything looks really good i LOVE the rebrand but the editing felt a little too fast paced with the cameras switching and captions and such for a pretty chill podcast 🫶
43:42 best way I can describe what he is talking about is like hibernation & winter coats in animals, starvation mode cancels out with your body's survival mode- your body will hold onto a bunch of fats when you dont eat because those fats are like a reservoir, when you're trying to starve, your body is trying to replenish those missing nutrients, your body will take as much as it can store from your meal when youre in those modes Basically the same as animals fattening up for winter to hibernate so they dont starve in their sleep and pass away
PCOS is a struggle, especially with the food control and not knowing what kind of drugs is good or not. And hirsutism is super stressful because you cant control hair growing on your face. I feel for QT, it is super overwhelming and not talked about enough.
As a dude who grew up with an older sister and a mom, who both sadly had to see their gyno often and even get procedures done while fully under, I could not imagine having all that stress maximized by being subjected to US "health"care... Finding a gyno that you can trust should be the biggest part of your hassle about something that's incredibly stress inducing in itself and inherently intimate to the max. My mom btw is scared to death of anesthesia, just like QT, but managed to do it twice now, she's a trooper :)
I watch the "DO WE Know them?" Pod, and they look like they are literally in the same room I think what they do is a blank wall with a color light behind them. Then they edit the light to match. It's really good
You'll be OK!! It can be uncomfortable for sure. I usually just look at the ceiling lol my gyno actually has decorative wraps on the fluorescent light so people have something to look at lol
I've got endometriosis. The best way I can describe the pain is pulling, tugging, stabby. I had regular periods. My cysts felt squeezy. I've more recently developed tight muscles in my hips and pelvic muscles. Been on some form of birth control since I was 15, when I had my first surgery. Another surgery in '22. I'm about to have a hysterectomy this month. I'm over it. I've basically lost 20 years of my life to pain. No kids. But it is what it is. We can adopt if we decide to. Endometriosis runs in my family. A lot of women in my family have had hysterectomies. I've been on progesterone only shot since '22 and it stopped my periods which is awesome. I still have other symptoms, but omg I love not bleeding on my period. I never want to go back. So that's an exciting thing about the hysterectomy.
i wish having a medical advocate was much more accessible and common, i have been in too many exam rooms where they just bombard you with shit that you can't handle. just somebody to keep a clear head, understand what's going on, maybe hold your hand... so many awful situations could be avoided if good support systems were the norm. it's a shame that patients so often feel cornered or even attacked by medical staff
also to anyone getting a mammogram for the first time soon: it's obviously kinda weird to be half-naked in a room with a stranger, and the imaging machine can pull/pinch your skin sometimes, or maybe be a little cold. BUT it is surprisingly fast! and it's important! especially if your close relatives have a history of breast cancer! so please, girlypop nation, be brave and try to follow the early detection guidelines :)
I'm gonna sound like such a hater but... - Old editing were better, some of the cuts/camera switches just feel so unnecessary and out of place. It kinda disrupts the flow, doesn't add anything. Wish it was showing both of them at all times except for some comedic timing. The constant close up and switches makes it awkward for me -Maya's lighting and overall quality definitely is better. - Thumbnail is kinda tacky, I don't think the bandaids and scars help.. I think this is an ongoing issue cause I think they changed the halloween episode's title and thumbnail like 5 times when it was up. I love the podcast, I will continue to support just sharing some opinions.
Hi! Thanks for reading, I can see how timing could be issue. I think this style is commonly used in podcast, it's just that their dynamic is very chill and the conversations are usually like that too, so it felt out of place to me, maybe because I'm used to the podcast's usual flow. Thank you again for reading! Hope you get better and better @@fusion_x1544
The single shots are driving me insane. I watch instead of listen specifically so I can look at them having a conversation. Now we only get the see whoever’s talking? It’s crazy and I want to stop watching lol
Pokimane recently tolv the internet that she has pcos and she did some videos about it. So you could talk to her about that stuff! And maybe do an extra Wine about it with her to talk about it and raise awareness! Love you guys 💕🌸
Wasn’t poki the one to recommend this gyno? I swear I remember watching a vid where she tells QT that she has a great gyno that she should go to…I might be wrong👽
i agree with maya that you definitely don't have to shave before going to the gyno. i say this as someone who also feels weird pressure to do it anyway though.
The lighting is great Maya, we can very clearly see that you've been kidnapped and imprisoned in a cellar Also this whole story from QT really just exemplifies the insanely predatory nature of the American health care system
Thanks to this episode, I looked up more information about PCOS and now I think I need to bring this up with my doctor. ☹️ Thank you for spreading this information for women, so much of this is not talked about enough!
The best way to remember a doctors appointment is to record it on a voice recorder or on your phone and if it’s a visual, you can always use video as well
Maybe just a green screen for the backgrounds ? That way you can project whatever and no matter the lighting it will look the same, could make it look like your in the same room 💜
Thank you for talking openly about your PCOS journey, I’m in the UK and my partner has PCOS all the symptoms similar to QT but they didn’t diagnose her bc they didn’t see any cycts on her ovaries and left it at that, no further info no follow up and this was a decade ago She’s had to follow up on everything herself
Some non fun fact of Endometriosis: when it comes to endometriosis on average it takes (from what i remember when doing my thesis on that) 7 - 14 years to get a diagnosis , symptoms of it are essentially menstrual pain and or pelvis pain. Witch by it self is very hard to track since it comes from pretty much anything included but not limited to : endometriosis to menstrual cramps, trauma, or physical activity The golden standard while it is: through laparoscopy. However, that is normally the last step. Normally, if you suspect it, you take a very careful look at relevant patient history, do a physical examination etc and lastly when you do suspect it, laparoscopy. A very basic ultrasound is sus, and then say pay 12k lol.
as a hypochondriac with the biggest health anxiety ever this is what scares me😭 everytime i think im remotely dying i go check it but then there's always the doubt of WHAT IF THEY'RE WRONG? i can't afford to go to second or third opinions everytime i go check something bc its a lot since i get so anxious about any given symptom 😭😭
Id recommend using sites like the NHS to sanity check doctors. (On PCOS for example, they first and foremost recommend dietary changes, then target more serious symptoms with specific medications depending on how its presenting in you.) Obviously a website has its limits, but they dont have the same incentive to lie, and it can give you a basic outline of what to expect. If a doctor goes way off track, then you have a vaguely informed idea to recognise that, and know to get second and third opinions.
thanks for the encouragement to make my dentist appointment. I know I have cavities that need to be filled but I'm terrified of choking. If QT can face her medical fears so can I!
I think you guys should pick two different but complimentary color schemes and make it feel more cohesive. Maybe having similar curtains and background objects that both fit the individual aesthetic but also give visual balance by subtly mirroring or including some of those items in both (for example having a throw blanket or sheer curtain in both color schemes but placing it differently in each space. Or, having the same type of throw pillow but different vibe in the exact same place in both backgrounds). Some subtle nods and maybe a few more obvious things to make it feel organic and individual but still say “we are in the same space” virtually. I have no clue if that makes any sense I’m too high for this 😅
I totally relate to your dentist experience Maya. I live in the UK, and 2 different partially NHS funded dentists ruined my teeth. I didn't look after them properly... as a student it was the last thing I cared about, I thought my teeth were fine, then one broke suddenly, and following that I had YEARS of treatments. One dentist didn't clean where I had a cavity properly, and just put filling over the top... it rotted under there without me noticing (no smell or anything), until it suddenly hurt worse than anything I've ever felt before. I moved town for work, and had to get a private dentist (the same thing as American dentists), and they looked tried to save it but couldn't. I lose the tooth (thankfully a molar at least). I have the same issue on the other side of my mouth, and I'm awaiting a root canal. Other dentists I've had have done multiple root canals on the same tooth and it still be painful afterwards. I had an emergency dental appointment at a dental hospital once and a student dentists performed a root canal without numbing me! So yep, I do not like the dentists either haha. Apologies for the rambling :')
feel ya on the dentist QT, always get 2nd opinions on major diagnosis. I've had a few root canal's too. Most of the time the worst part is the pain letting you know that the root is infected, treatment is normally just the numbing shot (get multiple shots if needed just speak up about pain) and pressure. Extraction/bonegraph/implants are worse because the compact and healing process.. and cost ofc. Sucks to get treated by dentist but love that there are people who do the care.
This whole story is so horrifying and makes me think all over again of a thought of I've had in the past - some people are just bad at their jobs. And people being bad at their jobs can inconvenience you in various ways, like sometimes you get a shitty sandwich. Or sometimes the mechanic makes your car worse and it costs you a bunch of money. Or sometimes, the person who's bad at their job can be a fucking doctor, or dentist, or lawyer, and them being bad at their job can literally fuck up your whole life, forever.
Had basically the same happen to me at a new dentist years ago! I left appt stressed, in tears, but my husband quickly realized the scam. Never went back, found a new dentist we could trust.
I was going to mention the dentistry scam thing because I think it's a major issue but I didn't wanna look crazy. Then QT mentioned it 2 minutes later lmaoo... also Maya's reaction to it at 57:27 is so funny 😂😂
So I do have to go see and Endodontist tomorrow because the pain in my lower tooth is so bad that its causing serious pounding headaches. Protect your teeth kids and adults.
Yea knew it was sketch the moment they didnt take insurance 😬 it just got worse and worse, I also have massiveeeee medical anxiety and I would absolutely lose it if I was told all these things and then had to pay 12k out of pocket. Also promoting her own brand & then also prescribing metformin is soooo sketchy 😟 def getting paid to promote the metformin & then just hustling her own brand
metformin is a very commonly used drug for pre diabetes… is there a prescient for doctors being incentivized to prescribe this? i work in a hospital and i have never heard of this in relation to metformin - def open to the education tho
I’m 37 and I not that long ago had my first mammogram! It wasn’t bad! I did end up having to have an ultrasound done after cause I had a dense issue. But in the end the girls are good! lol y’all get looked at!! Upstairs and downstairs!! We really need to normalize it more!! Love ya girlies!! 🤗🫶🏻
In med school I rotated with a gynecologist and he always made it a point to do 2 things in every visit: first explain that he is not there to tell the patient "no" but rather to explain options and then proceed with what the patient desires, and second he walks through everything with the patient to make sure they are on the same page at every stage of the process during examination. His patients loved him largely because of the respect and autonomy he gave his patients. Too many other gynecologists make visits far too routine and lose the humanity of medicine. Thank you for using your platform to explain a process that 50% of the population experiences and the other 50% knows little about! First doctor was straight-up scamming you or was otherwise incompetent. Second doctor was much more holistic and focused on you, rather than just your symptoms. I am happy you found someone who cares about you.
i need to comment bc i have similar hormonal issues and let me tell you about insulin resistance and starvation it does NOT work. the only reason i was obese was because i starved myself and the way my nutritionist explained it was the body goes into emergency mode, feeling the stress of an improper diet and lack of nutrients from forgoing meals and just HOARDS whatever is thrown at it in hopes of survival! that's when i was put on a 2,000 calorie diet, six meals a day. it was horrible bc i was used to eating one meal a day or two and it screwed up my mental health bc i had developed some really unhealthy relationships with food. after doing that consistently, i lost so much weight (which had never happened to me) and my 40+ days periods went down drastically. i still struggle because i truly lack discipline w food intake and other health issues but if anyone reads this, and has a trouble with their uterus/digestive system i beg you all to eat at the very least three meals.
Beyond all the other red flags, the fact that there was no cover and a mirrored wall reeks of controlling the environment to put you in a state of vulnerability and emotionally short-circuiting your rational brain. Pushing for these expensive procedures and "no refunds" is trying to take advantage of a mark. All the fluffed up medical talk and confidence is aimed at getting you into a disordered, chaotic state- where we tend to grasp for anything that appears solid and knowledgeable and submit to their authority unquestioningly.
I just got diagnosed with pcos, and no one told me about going gluten free or spearmint! they just put me on birth control. Idk if i can handle going gluten free, but this is good to know thanks! This is like when Maya learned that you should do strength training on birth control.
This ep reminded me that im long overdue for my regular breast lump ultrasound (its almost definitely non cancerous but gotta keep an eye on it to be sure) ive been putting it off bc my brain has not been optimal the last couple months but it is important to do!
I dont really comment on things but i just wanna say im really grateful for this podcast and these types of conversations you two have. I literally never hear talks about womens health like this, it always feels forbidden in a way and so im really happy qt can comfortably talk about it. I have a lot of period issues but dont have a doctor and have been scared to start the process but im feeling more confident to try and reach out to the planned parenthood in my area about it. Thank you so much for uplifting girly pop nation and talking about womans health 💗
The best way to remember a doctors appointment is to record it on a voice recorder or on your phone and if it’s a visual, you can always use video as well ETD: I also have moderate health anxiety where it’s impossible for me to make an appointment to get anything checked because I’m scared it’s going to be news that I’m dying. My papas cancer diagnosis and death shortly thereafter was the straw that broke the camels back for my health anxiety to reach a new high. I find it best to record the appointments and then if it’s triggering I delete the recording.
Hey QT, what an intense experience , I’m so sorry you had that! I really recommend going to a dietitian to give you personalised advice for your PCOS. They can help guide you❤ especially those specialising in PCOS xx
Honestly, it's really reassuring to hear other people's experiences with gynos. I had some of the worst experiences when i was 15 and then again at 20. I didn't want to go back to the gyno for years. But recently i have been able to go and pick a new doctor and had a much better experience
I don't think people got mad about the ads themselves, more the placement last week. Last week it was 1 ad during the intro, then a few sentences, then another ad before the intro was even fully finished. It was like whiplash.
hi QT!! i work in a medical clinic and just wanted to say that Metformin is not at all the same thing as Ozempic! they aren’t entirely different drugs that do different things. i’m not saying you should take the metformin, that’s ultimately your choice, but don’t not take it because you think it’s ozempic. med names that you’d want to watch out for are phentermine and topiramate. some brand names would be Wegovy, Qysmia, and Topamax. Definitely get a second opinion but you should probably be on metformin if the provider is recommending it. good luck :) edit: listened to the rest and that doctor is definitely wack BUT point stands the same 😅
as someone who just got diagnosed with PCOS a few weeks ago it's honestly super comforting that we're going through the same things right now. also, the high estrogen and testosterone thing is because PCOS causes something called an "anovulatory" period, meaning an egg doesn't drop for us when it's supposed to, and because of that our hormone cycles are thrown off and we continue to mass produce estrogen. Our bodies freak out and start converting it to testosterone to try to restore the balance, but it causes an excess of both and they don't really cancel each other out in the way we think they might. This causes all sorts of downstream effects like excess body hair, acne, weight gain/retention, and irregular periods.

I would definitly consider sending the material to the state medical board. There are some BIG red flags ethics wise.

Celebrity doctors are expensive because they expect that you can advocate for yourself and they will give you whatever it is you want.
Us medical system seems more and more messed up the more I hear about it
Idk who that person is saying that "celebrity" doctors are held to a different standard but that is just not true.
Thank you for this! I was going to write the same thing. And hopefully the girlies don’t hear this and think it’s the same because it’s not.
Yes this omg
It makes me happy that these two both have people they can call who they trust.
i know, i was so worried after hearing this story on fear&!!! i agree on getting a 3rd opinion outside of LA though
I love this pod so much and I really love that they’re trying new things to upgrade our experience but I will say, I feel like scene switching to focus on just QT or just Maya throughout a story really works directly against the absolute biggest pro of these being recorded online which is the constant close up on both of their faces and not missing their expressions/reactions. it makes sense as an occasional thing but only when it’s specifically worth the cost of not seeing the other. this is just my viewer 2 cents. and I also apologize since it wasn’t asked for. much love!!
agreed, and so respectfully put!
Definitely agree
Totally on point. Reactions are the best part!
Sincerely,
Just a fan who happens be a genetic counselor working in genetics and knows weirdly specific things about this specific topic.
Maya's cat eye makeup looks incredibly on point. The ugly curtain background is making it even better by contrast.
I worked for an endocrinologist, it is very common to be prescribed metformin for PCOS, especially when you’re concerned about facial hair.
Had to come back to this video to comment this!
I have been going to my old gyno for three years now, with no diagnosis of PCOS. This video convinced me to go seek a second opinion! Today I’ve been diagnosed with PCOS from a new gyno 🎉🎉
Thank you Maya and QT!
guest eps are fun but I also really just look forward to listening to QT and Maya yap to each other about their lives and I’ve really missed the weekly catchup segments ❤
As someone who is studying to be an OB/GYN right now, this episode made me so happy! That first doctor seems crazy and I'm glad you got a second opinion. I find this kind of thing so interesting to learn and listen to so Im so happy my fav podcast is talking about it!!!!!
Qt saying the gynecologist bit felt like she was practicing her stand up. It was a great delivery, hope she uses that in her stand up lol
It makes me really mad that so many women have had to go through this. Im really sorry this happened.
Definitely gotta echo another comment and say I love seeing both Maya and QT for the conversations instead of just one camera at a time
so for that first gyno, the word you're looking for is "malpractice."
This is the longest ad I've ever seen. I'm sold on gynecologists now.
the fact that the first gyno had the balls to tell you to make a voice recording of everything she said is so gross. like she was so confident scaring you into thinking you urgently needed a major surgery for a problem she objectively couldn't have diagnosed you with... insanely ethically bankrupt
Between this and Rae and Alythuh's podcast, I've learned so much about pcos, which is good because my mom has it but struggles to talk about health stuff
They talk about it there? Any particular episodes? I have PCOS
do they all have it? hmm, maybe it's being over diagnosed in los angeles
@Henry_Smith_862 No PCOS has just been very under diagnosed historically, and with the rise of social media, people have gotten more information on the condition to try and get diagnosed
@@Henry_Smith_862 It's surprisingly common, afaik everywhere
@@Henry_Smith_862they talked abt this… why is it strange when women have women related illnesses😭
As a pharmacist, the conversation around metformin and Ozempic got me thinking HOW MANY TIMES HAVE THESE (talented and respectable) WOMEN gave me wrong info about subjects I have no expertise in!!!!??? lmaooo
Lmao tbf to them they have admitted to this before. I think they need a live producer to fact check.
I knew they wouldn’t abandon us
Wine About It was my #1 podcast according to Spotify wrapped.
43:42 best way I can describe what he is talking about is like hibernation & winter coats in animals, starvation mode cancels out with your body's survival mode- your body will hold onto a bunch of fats when you dont eat because those fats are like a reservoir, when you're trying to starve, your body is trying to replenish those missing nutrients, your body will take as much as it can store from your meal when youre in those modes
Basically the same as animals fattening up for winter to hibernate so they dont starve in their sleep and pass away
as a dude, this was a very interesting and informative ep, very cool
My mom btw is scared to death of anesthesia, just like QT, but managed to do it twice now, she's a trooper :)
this episode taught me I have a healthy skepticism of doctors
I watch the "DO WE Know them?" Pod, and they look like they are literally in the same room I think what they do is a blank wall with a color light behind them. Then they edit the light to match. It's really good
Oh no I’m also terrified of the gyno, have pcos and potentially other issues, and am going tomorrow 😭 we need a support group
Also terrifying to not be able to trust doctors with our most intimate shit
Same girl 😢
literally same! I have pcos and my doc is awful :c never listens. searching for a new one currently
good luck girlypops
You'll be OK!! It can be uncomfortable for sure. I usually just look at the ceiling lol my gyno actually has decorative wraps on the fluorescent light so people have something to look at lol
I'm not a big fan of the new editing style switching cameras back and forth 😢
i like it
true also messes up audio as well like it's voice over with lip. Hurts my brain at times with instant switching every few secs.
I’ve described the speculum at the gyno to my boyfriend like one of those car lift pumps you use to change a tire
29:30 that's messed up. She 100% should have disclosed that.
And possibly criminal that she didn't.
yeah i bet that's why the doctor doesn't take insurance. then she gets around having to disclose that she owns it
I've got endometriosis.
The constant close up and switches makes it awkward for me
-Maya's lighting and overall quality definitely is better.
I agree on the editing. The other stuff doesn't matter much to me personally.
I think it's mostly fair criticism. I think the editing is too zoomy when most of the audience are too old for that.
Hope that you are doing well QT and Maya ❤ ❤
Wishing you all the best for Streamer Awards Saturday ❤❤❤❤❤
Maya’s lighting looks sooooooo good on this episode
maya the lighting is incredible
LMAO Maya saying like and subscribe like a sound producer tag is my favorite thing
The lighting is great Maya, we can very clearly see that you've been kidnapped and imprisoned in a cellar
Also this whole story from QT really just exemplifies the insanely predatory nature of the American health care system
Thanks to this episode, I looked up more information about PCOS and now I think I need to bring this up with my doctor. ☹️ Thank you for spreading this information for women, so much of this is not talked about enough!
❤❤❤
WAHOO I did miss qt snd maya in real time or well closer to that. Best podcast, love all the new exciting things!
The best way to remember a doctors appointment is to record it on a voice recorder or on your phone and if it’s a visual, you can always use video as well
Maybe just a green screen for the backgrounds ? That way you can project whatever and no matter the lighting it will look the same, could make it look like your in the same room 💜
Thank you for talking openly about your PCOS journey, I’m in the UK and my partner has PCOS all the symptoms similar to QT but they didn’t diagnose her bc they didn’t see any cycts on her ovaries and left it at that, no further info no follow up and this was a decade ago
She’s had to follow up on everything herself
Some non fun fact of Endometriosis: when it comes to endometriosis on average it takes (from what i remember when doing my thesis on that) 7 - 14 years to get a diagnosis , symptoms of it are essentially menstrual pain and or pelvis pain. Witch by it self is very hard to track since it comes from pretty much anything included but not limited to : endometriosis to menstrual cramps, trauma, or
physical activity
The golden standard while it is: through laparoscopy. However, that is normally the last step. Normally, if you suspect it, you take a very careful look at relevant patient history, do a physical examination etc and lastly when you do suspect it, laparoscopy.
A very basic ultrasound is sus, and then say pay 12k lol.
Maya's lighting looks great, I think the easiest way to get matching backgrounds would be to use greenscreens
Good lighting and really good eyeliner Maya, love to see it!
I got three fillings this week and while listening to Maya talk I realized how amazing my dentist is.
as a hypochondriac with the biggest health anxiety ever this is what scares me😭 everytime i think im remotely dying i go check it but then there's always the doubt of WHAT IF THEY'RE WRONG? i can't afford to go to second or third opinions everytime i go check something bc its a lot since i get so anxious about any given symptom 😭😭
40:36 the Mormon in QT jumped out to explain away a scam lmao
Id recommend using sites like the NHS to sanity check doctors. (On PCOS for example, they first and foremost recommend dietary changes, then target more serious symptoms with specific medications depending on how its presenting in you.)
Obviously a website has its limits, but they dont have the same incentive to lie, and it can give you a basic outline of what to expect. If a doctor goes way off track, then you have a vaguely informed idea to recognise that, and know to get second and third opinions.
thanks for the encouragement to make my dentist appointment. I know I have cavities that need to be filled but I'm terrified of choking. If QT can face her medical fears so can I!
4:55 I genuinely thought that was my microwave
I think you guys should pick two different but complimentary color schemes and make it feel more cohesive. Maybe having similar curtains and background objects that both fit the individual aesthetic but also give visual balance by subtly mirroring or including some of those items in both (for example having a throw blanket or sheer curtain in both color schemes but placing it differently in each space. Or, having the same type of throw pillow but different vibe in the exact same place in both backgrounds). Some subtle nods and maybe a few more obvious things to make it feel organic and individual but still say “we are in the same space” virtually. I have no clue if that makes any sense I’m too high for this 😅
Maya's lighting is great, the backgrounds though I think just needs stuff in it instead of a curtain
im not a huge fan of the new editing with switching cams but I like the new logo rebranding!
Really important segment about the gynecologist, thanks for sharing
feel ya on the dentist QT, always get 2nd opinions on major diagnosis.
That 2nd doctor was the goat fr
Maya having cooler tone and QT having warming tone is on brand
Mayas lighting looks 10x better and she looks great.
Also promoting her own brand & then also prescribing metformin is soooo sketchy 😟 def getting paid to promote the metformin & then just hustling her own brand
metformin is a very commonly used drug for pre diabetes… is there a prescient for doctors being incentivized to prescribe this? i work in a hospital and i have never heard of this in relation to metformin - def open to the education tho
maya i know nothing about lighting, but i think you look like you’re glowing!
Maya not knowing One Week and QT continuing singing is really funny
I’m 37 and I not that long ago had my first mammogram! It wasn’t bad! I did end up having to have an ultrasound done after cause I had a dense issue. But in the end the girls are good! lol y’all get looked at!! Upstairs and downstairs!! We really need to normalize it more!! Love ya girlies!! 🤗🫶🏻
As a healthcare worker, the whole OBGYN situation was so upsetting to listen to. I'm so glad you got a second opinion and found a great doctor. ❤️
I am happy you found someone who cares about you.
i need to comment bc i have similar hormonal issues and let me tell you about insulin resistance and starvation it does NOT work. the only reason i was obese was because i starved myself and the way my nutritionist explained it was the body goes into emergency mode, feeling the stress of an improper diet and lack of nutrients from forgoing meals and just HOARDS whatever is thrown at it in hopes of survival!
that's when i was put on a 2,000 calorie diet, six meals a day. it was horrible bc i was used to eating one meal a day or two and it screwed up my mental health bc i had developed some really unhealthy relationships with food.
after doing that consistently, i lost so much weight (which had never happened to me) and my 40+ days periods went down drastically. i still struggle because i truly lack discipline w food intake and other health issues but if anyone reads this, and has a trouble with their uterus/digestive system i beg you all to eat at the very least three meals.
girly pops look amazing today aa!!!!!! and i really like all the changes your doing in the podcast
Damn QT get that advertisement Bag (as long as it isn't "Better""Help")
Maya's lighting is so good this episode!!
The best way to remember a doctors appointment is to record it on a voice recorder or on your phone and if it’s a visual, you can always use video as well
ETD: I also have moderate health anxiety where it’s impossible for me to make an appointment to get anything checked because I’m scared it’s going to be news that I’m dying.
Not me watching the YT video with the ads despite being a patron bc i just prefer TH-cam for some reason 😂
Same, the patreon vids crash out on me
we love ads! MORE ADS PLS! get that bread queen!
Definitely get a second opinion but you should probably be on metformin if the provider is recommending it. good luck :)
edit:
listened to the rest and that doctor is definitely wack BUT point stands the same 😅
as someone who just got diagnosed with PCOS a few weeks ago it's honestly super comforting that we're going through the same things right now. also, the high estrogen and testosterone thing is because PCOS causes something called an "anovulatory" period, meaning an egg doesn't drop for us when it's supposed to, and because of that our hormone cycles are thrown off and we continue to mass produce estrogen. Our bodies freak out and start converting it to testosterone to try to restore the balance, but it causes an excess of both and they don't really cancel each other out in the way we think they might. This causes all sorts of downstream effects like excess body hair, acne, weight gain/retention, and irregular periods.
