i watched those as kid and i was quite angry how people didn't know how to build. i was thinking why they don't add a powerful spinner, like veritcal or horizontal. i think hypnodisk was the first one that brought a spinning disk and it was so low powered ... hypnodisk compared to carbide or tombstone .. is like comparing bear to rabbit
Nearly 26 Years ago, My Life Changed forever as Robot Wars premiered its 1st episode on BBC Two!🤩I Hope Robot Wars Revealed will be Uploaded on TH-cam soon.
This is a good way to celebrate the 26th anniversary of Robot Wars. I still wish it could be revived again. But this is still good. Plus, I'm still waiting for the U.S., German, and the second Dutch series to be uploaded.
What really surprises me about this, looking back, is that the roboteers and Jeremy were not protected by a perspex shield during the first two events. Seems well dodgy, they're just casually hanging around nearby on the stairs whilst sharp lumps of torn metal are being sent flying around the place.
did you see any flying pieces of metal? those were the GOLDEN times where people weren't snowflakes and didn't roll their eyes over everything ... i can't stop laughing over NHRL, their "safety" is total overkill and for total snowflakes, they're afraid of picking up 1.5kg robot with work gloves on, cuz its LiPo battery is smoking ... BUT i do agree that those spinning saws are quite dangerous and they should definetly have thought of adding lexan protection.
Modern safety measures in the sport may seem like overkill, but they were born out of decades of trial and error. As archaic as combat robots in the mid to late 90s were, they have always had the potential to kill or at least seriously injure a person. Jeremy Clarkson almost died during Series 1- Dead Metal’s saw flew off and embedded itself in a wall inches away from Clarkson’s head. Barry (the Gauntlet loser in this episode) charged at a crew member backstage and bowled him over, causing him to cut his arm open on the top of Barry’s scoop. That example of a smoking lipo battery in a 1.5 kg robot? Still extremely dangerous- the smoke is toxic to humans and we’ve seen lipo batteries go from smoking to exploding into flame. We’ve seen what can happen when safety isn’t properly accounted for- m.th-cam.com/video/qjxCX83Cr1Y/w-d-xo.html That hit broke the person’s jaw and knocked him out. Miraculously he survived. Bear in mind, this was Indian combat robotics in 2014. Just imagine a present day vertical spinner in the UK or US launching something out of an open arena. If wanting to enjoy robot combat safely is being a “snowflake”…. well, better that than dead.
@97channel Well if you didn't know during one of the fights, Dead Metal was cutting up a broken bot when it's saw blade shot off at around 200mph according to reports and embedded in the concrete wall right behind Jeremy. Producers and editors watched the footage (that I don't think has ever been released) and the blade missed his head by two or three inches. Yeah between this and series three's many injuries I am surprised no one was actually killed but glad all the same.
@@raisinghell619 Damn! Production should have been put on hold immediately, that sounds like a horrifying near miss. There's also the issue of how the show appealed for people, possibly unskilled, to make robots at home. With the kind of specs they were looking for, it could have been a bloodbath of injuries.
@@97channel If I remember right they did stop the fight temporarily to install some protection for Mr Clarkson and the competitors but yeah it really is a miracle this series made it air, especially series three.
yeah and kind of boring, but don't forget that back then remote controlled robots didn't exist. nowdays you can order robot parts from ebay or amazon, they have specialized motors and 3D printers, everything is super easy to make and also quite cheap. did you know that average robot in robot wars costed like 1000-5000gbp? and in that time it was a LOT of money. even now it's quite a lot of money. they were just testing and experimenting to see how it all goes, technology and idea was all new, it had the "WOW" factor in it. nowdays it's old news, so people just yawn at it. that's also why star wars, terminator, alien ..etc movies gained so much fame, it's cuz nobody had seen this in 70s and 80s
really like 80s and 90s, where it was ok to call dumb person dumb ... but now you can't even write the word that starts with "i" and ends with "t" and has 5 letters, once that Jeremy called him.

Pity too. Just when Series 10 fixed everything and went above and beyond to be in one of the better seasons, BBC pulled the plug on it.
