This game, pentiment and psychonauts 2 are the type of games that you get when you give the developers the freedom to make their passion project, microsoft deserves a lot of credit for okaying these games without forcing them to pander to modern game designs.
I wouldn’t give them too much credit, they’re only doing this cause of their heaps of previous fuck ups starting all the way back to the marketing for the Xbox one. On the flip side though, their duck ups are leading to them actually coming with some pretty cool stuff like game pass and this game of course

i wonder how they made this artstyle? it looks really 2d like as if its a comic book, but its clearly 3D but if you pause the screen at anytime it looks 2d?!?! great art direction
It's just cel shading but everything is modeled in such a perfect way that it doesn't instantly come off as 3D like most games doing the same style. The color palette helps a lot too
For someone who loved Dreamcast and Gamecube arcade style games, this game is like a sugar rush to the brain. Nostalgia overload. The presentation is second to none. Closest I've ever felt to playing inside an animated cartoon.

Though if im honest I never liked this genre to start, too repetitive, no key changes or tempo changes to really challenge you. Everything is in a 4/4 time signature so once you get the beat your set. Not to mention that though the music can be good. The constant heys and generic guitar rifts when you hit get in the way of the music. To the point that it sounds like when your missing notes in guitar hero. But idk maybe ita the pessimist in me.

Shows like Get Ed, Jackie Chan Adventures, Code Lyoko, and others on Cartoon Network like the movie Firebreather. alright, with a mix of a rythm/music game being the description, I HAVE to mention No Straight Roads which came out a few years ago-- and the special edition that came out over a year ago. It's more boss-focused and not super deep, as well as being quite short. But by O D I N is it a pretty impressive debut game by its studio, with a TON of style -both visual and sound-wise- and nice humor. I really recommend checking it out. Also, on the note of Rhythm Games + (genre), there's a variation on a Fighter coming out somewhere this year by name of God of Rock. Might be interesting.
I literally beat this on very hard didn't start easy and it was bloody madness. Don't forget to check the rewards board behind the couch because I sure didn't til I beaten it and i had the worse chip upgrade.

It's by The Evil Within and Tokyo Ghostwire devs. There's even some side characters who are parody cameos from Evil Within.
Funny enough, there is a second Crank movie where he is powered by electricity. Anyway, love this game so far, would like to see a full playthrough!
