Well, as you know, I live in Nova Scotia and I have been to Cape Breton many times but only between May and October. Excellent video, thanks. Also - my husband drinks 'kettle coffee' whenever he happens to be by himself, I suppose it takes getting used so give it a few decades!
Had to chuckle when you made the comment that there is no snow in the city - less than week later and we get 50+ cm with more to come. I expect the route you took got close to 80cm yesterday (Feb. 3). Off to xc ski in Merigomish.
Hey, I remember that bear video! That was so cool to get a little taste of Cape Breton. I have to admit, that it’s something I’ve heard a lot about, but never seen much of. I’ve done Gaspe twice, done the coast of NB, stayed a few times with friends in PEI, and driven to NS and spent a short time in Halifax, but cape breton? I know nothing. I’ve heard about it a lot, heard songs about it, but haven’t even seen a video. Only complaint is it was too short a video, but I guess you had enough to do finishing the trip. I’ve spent many days out in winter, and camped into late fall, but how you managed things like sleeping, trying to stay dry etc… would have been interesting to see. Anyway, thanks Noah.
Went camping in Keji a while ago and forgot whatever it was I was going to make coffee in. Mocha Pot I guess. But I had one of those ceramic Starbucks mugs with the slidey closer on top. I put coffee grounds and water in that then opened the slidey thing just enough to pour the coffee but hold the grounds back. It worked very well and was very very good.
Oh yes this was good❤ Noah, Hey I make my coffee every morning this way let it set for 5-8 min gentle shake it's awesome! I love the extra fiber it gives towards the end ❤ my least is its only one mug were I would like two mugs 😆what did you like most about it and Least about it?and I'm going now to watch the guys Bear in counter 😮 thanks for sharing Noah❤can't wait for the next adventure👋
There's a trick to the coffee. Once it is done brewing and still piping hot, drop some snow(or cold water) on top and the floaters will sink to the bottom. 👍
Nice to see my beautiful island from a different view. Thank you. Great video. I saw a video where if you put a little bit of cold water in your coffee, it will settle the coffee grinds to the bottom. I never tried it though but worth a shot!
Once I forgot my coffee filter set up and used a sock - a clean one 😂. Then I recently saw on Clay Hayes channel, he did the cowboy coffee and said sprinkle some snow on top and it pushes the grounds to the bottom 😊 makes for great coffee ☕️
What? No fish?? I'm all for cold weather adventures, but I still prefer that in a canoe. No way would I be prepared for a backcountry snowshoe trip Ike that. Thanks for letting me enjoy watching you happily suffer in the woods from my couch! And keep up the great adventures!
Here's a trick I learned from a veteran hiker/camper: if you are wet when you make camp, put on your dry clothes and hang your wet ones. BUT..if it is still raining the next day, put your wet clothes back on, and pack your dry. Otherwise, you'll have two pair of wet clothes, and nothing dry to change into.
Definitely sounds good , although their wet clothes might have been frozen lol. But seriously it does sound like a great idea , going to remember that one.
I have been many years on winter camping trips in Scandinavian mountains. Lots of downfall here too. Maybe not so much, fast and often massive rain down pours as you describe but that happens too. BUT I and all fellow experianced people here do I as I have also learnt, tested IRL. 1st Try if possible to not get too wet before you set camp. Body warmth can dry you allmost up if not too (=medium) hardworking in end of day. I believe you must wear Gore tex if that described massive down pours as outer layer to dry up. If Gore Tex is used ventilating heat out is key to not get wet/ dry up. I use syntetic 1st layer and with woolen 1st layer I am not able to handle that. 2ndly I allways has one night set 1st layer completely dry (off course long legs, long sleeve) that I only use during night in my down sleeping bag together with very warm completely dry only night pair of woolen socks. BUT I dry my now not pouring wet synthetic 1st layer set on my chest during night. While it is still warm I recommend to put it there. The socks allways of woolen material (my feet do not sweat as much and wool is also much warmer even when it is become damp material) I put in my arm pits. I use WELL impregnated (w shoe fat) leather boots(they breath somehow). Shoes I put under sleeping bag and roughly around my knees while I sleep on my back or sideways normally. Now shoes does not freeze. Nicer in the morning if -10--》-25 degrees C! And I allways sleep well despite what town people (summer tenters) might think! I of course have a good warm sleeping bag and keep tent well ventilated. Down Jacket on top of sleeping bags if really cold weather. Sorry for long answer/comment!
Great hike guys , maybe in my younger days I'd love to come along now I'd be the reason you would have to call SAR to lift me out lol. Great video as usual we always enjoy your videos.
We love catching up on all of your adventures Noah. So fun to see what Winter is like down East! Can’t wait to see what you get up to next. -Tyler and Kassy
awesome content. such refreshing change from the avalanches of survival tarp-camping for an overnight while going nowhere content. But the outpouring of camp coffee knowhow has taken me by surprise. I just push the grounds down with a spoon. they stay down, and i don't lose even a fraction of a degree of the precious heat.
Oh boy, do I miss the snow!! Climate change is killing me here on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. We've had such little snow the last 3 or 4 years. I'm fearful that the only way I will experience snow again is by watching videos from Canada.
You know the old Cape Breton saying “ if you don’t like the weather here…wait five minutes..lol😅 “ Great hike, not for the faint of heart. Cheers guys. MikeR in Cape Breton.
I love these videos, especially as a Canadian they are filmed in our great country. Cape Breton is my home away from home! Thank you and I am looking forward to you future adventures.
Yeehaw❤ so excited your doing a video 🎉 I pray you and your family and friends had a wonderful holidays! Welcome 2024 to a healthy and blessed days to come! With love always from Ohio❤
Hi Noah just sitting in front of my gas fireplace deep in my man cave watchin this amazing trek you and your buddies a doing and once again great stuff, and I've come to the conclusion that there must be a crazy place where you and all your crazy friends actually live, that's fine by me just keep doin it and stay safe.
Perfect recipe for hypothermia! At least you had body heat to keep the tent warm. Ish. Such beautiful countryside tho! I'd love to go trekking thru there. Maybe in the fall tho, after the bugs, before the snow 😊
Awesome video! According to your map at the start of the video, you passed just east of White Hill, the highest point in NS (535m). Did you guys consider deviating there or might you go in the future? I trekked to White Hill this July and it was very difficult with the combination of flooded terrain and an almost entirely overgrown trail. I would assume it's much easier to make it in the winter when you can walk above all the trees, although with the winter challenges you presented in this video. Cheers!
If you put a tablespoon of snow on top of the cowboy´s coffee, most grains will go down fast. If you do not have snow, you can use cold water (the colder the better).
-16C and then rain - I'm surprised the highlands would get above zero in January, but we live in changing times. Good to see Jan and Tristan again - that bear episode was memorable. :-) Always enjoy your videos, and always look forward to the next one. Thanks Noah!
Looks like one heck of an adventure fella's! Glad your getting out there despite the weather. You can see us experience some of that rain in our latest video, when we visited your neck of the woods a few months ago. Gorgeous area, for sure. Keep the adventures coming.
Agree totally! Some 30 years ago I allways used to drink good quality "cooking coffee" (not instant coffee! Nor brewing=filter type) exactly that way in Sweden, Scandinavia. Exacly when it started to cook pour a little cold water on top and the grains will sink down. And we still drink a lot here. Older people still use "cooking coffe" grains (not equal to hole coffee beans but somehow coursely grained). Some outdoor people still does this especially the sapmi people up north.
Saw a youtube video recently where they mentioned putting a lump of snow in at the end will result in the coffee grounds going to the bottom so you can drink the clear liquid up top. No idea if it works.
Great to see you guys at it again! I see that Noah is still using his trusty Contigo . I love mine have two of them . One was gifted to me so it stays home but my original goes everywhere and takes a bunch of abuse ! Keep making videos! Happy 2024 Best of luck to all!😊
Nice - we have the same situation here in NC. We have no snow (in fact we have had rain the past week +) but because there is snow at elevation, all of the access points have been closed off. Which sucks !
Hello,I was born on Cape Breton Island ,and it is beautiful. Our brother and his friends hiked in the highlands in areas that may have never had a human step there before. They were in a newspaper article regarding this adventurous hike. Thank you for exploring the highlands and best of luck on future adventures.
I spent a "honeymoon" in NS and I have more fond memories of NS than I do of my murderous ex. I remember a chicken fast food place in Cheticamp on Cape Breton. Also, the Keltic Lodge, Baddeck and Alexander Graham Bell's museum. Very Nice!
That was great! Thanks for making the video of this trip. I wouldn’t have wasted a minute getting to a Tim’s (for a Double Double Double Double) after that slog 🤣
You got everything thrown at you for sure on this one Noah! So jealous of the snowshoeing ;-) You all look pretty darn cheerful for being soaked through 💜
I saw in another video that when you make coffee like this, you drop in a bit of snow, and it will take the grounds down to the bottom of your cup. I have never tried it, so I don't know if it really works.
I have been to Cape Breton in the summertime and it was wild and remote. Can't imagine hiking there in the wintertime. Hats off to Noah and the boyz
Awesome trip boys. Freezing rain is the only type of weather I don't like. So dangerous.
Nate
Winter wonderland 🌟👏🥶🥶🥶
Great team and fun adventure! Keep 'em coming!
Well, as you know, I live in Nova Scotia and I have been to Cape Breton many times but only between May and October. Excellent video, thanks. Also - my husband drinks 'kettle coffee' whenever he happens to be by himself, I suppose it takes getting used so give it a few decades!
Noah you’re always up for a challenge.
Another great winter hike under your belt!😎
keep them coming, i cant get enough of the adventures

Amazing what you do for fun, lol. Great video, thanks for posting.
Another great film. Thanks for the content! Really appreciate it.
your motivation and determination is highly commendable.
I would have stayed home
thanx
Beautiful place, nice to go with friends and have good time.

awesomeeeeee!!!
Tooo shoooort!!! 😮❤
Had to go check my closet. My main pack is a blue Osprey Aether and I have a yellow carabiner hanging in the same spot as you do.

If u pour cold water into your hot coffee, the grounds will settle on the bottom.
Love it 😊😊😊
Few drops of cold water will bind the ground coffee to the bottom
It's good that piece of wood didn't hit you in the eye.
Well this was an awesome trekking adventure, epic scenery .
Another great Adventure 👍🇦🇺
I was cold just watching! Great video guys, keep it up!
Nice to see my beautiful island from a different view. Thank you. Great video. I saw a video where if you put a little bit of cold water in your coffee, it will settle the coffee grinds to the bottom. I never tried it though but worth a shot!
Great life quote from Noah “For simply the joy of it all”. Thanks for sharing, loved the video!
you just dump a handfull of snow on top of to coffee and the grounds will sink
Once I forgot my coffee filter set up and used a sock - a clean one 😂.
Then I recently saw on Clay Hayes channel, he did the cowboy coffee and said sprinkle some snow on top and it pushes the grounds to the bottom 😊 makes for great coffee ☕️

Killin it Noah! Always amped for a new episode!
That looked like a hard but fun trip. Thankfully, there weren't any bears about. 😂
What an adventure
What an incredible trip! You guys are very seasoned and strong to make that trek. Thanks for taking us along!!! From Ontario
awesome content. such refreshing change from the avalanches of survival tarp-camping for an overnight while going nowhere content. But the outpouring of camp coffee knowhow has taken me by surprise. I just push the grounds down with a spoon. they stay down, and i don't lose even a fraction of a degree of the precious heat.
Wow what an adventure. Surprised you didn't see a moose!
Cant wait to watch this later tonight after work! Thank you :)
Can we all take a moment to appreciate Noah's ice beard. 🧊❄️
And his bleeding cheeks 😢

Any sasquatch/pine ape stories?
Fantastic. What an adventure. Thanks for sharing, Noah.
Super beautiful. Such tenacity. A bit of a super cold, wet, windy wimp here. Did all that back in younger days.
Oh this is going to be good ❤
The dedication to coffee is to be commended.
Yeehaw❤ so excited your doing a video 🎉 I pray you and your family and friends had a wonderful holidays! Welcome 2024 to a healthy and blessed days to come! With love always from Ohio❤

I'm in for the ride!
What a treck , you guys sure are brave souls . Very challenging trip !!

Courageous mens. Wow. Tanks for sharing. From Quebec..✨❄✋🏼
We are staying in Bay St. Lawrence this spring. This video makes me much more excited!!

Wow beautiful but formidable. Lucky your trio is ready for it.

Beautiful trip, looked very difficult to stay comfortable even for a short period of time
For future reference, if you pour in just a little cold water it will drive the coffee grounds to the bottom and shouldn't cool off the coffee.

What a cool adventure and gorgeous terrain. And virtually every type of weather you can get haha! Awesome video.
Noah, what a rugged, beautiful adventure. That was intense. Great job!
Great to see you guys at it again! I see that Noah is still using his trusty Contigo . I love mine have two of them . One was gifted to me so it stays home but my original goes everywhere and takes a bunch of abuse ! Keep making videos! Happy 2024 Best of luck to all!😊
What a place! The rain definitely was the worst part but the snow and trekking was amazing.
Be Bold, Start Cold....awesome for you to share! What an adventure!
Awesome guys!! 👍👍
Nice - we have the same situation here in NC. We have no snow (in fact we have had rain the past week +) but because there is snow at elevation, all of the access points have been closed off. Which sucks !
I miss Alex in the videos! It´s about time the both of you make a trip together.
Awesome Noah outstanding scenery you guys rock my gosh. The wife was born Halifax 1959.Be safe keep warm see next one.
I always enjoy your videos, thanks.

Thats the scavenger I like , the real rugged adventure with friends throught impossible terrain and weather !
You guys are a hearty souls. Tough as nails. Love your videos.
Good video. I probably would have started from the top of Franey rather than wreck cove.
Yes, that’s a good one too. We did that a couple years ago as well.
Incredible adventure!
That was great! Brings me back to when I wanted to do those hikes. Older and wiser now! lol
That was great! Thanks for making the video of this trip.
I wouldn’t have wasted a minute getting to a Tim’s (for a Double Double Double Double) after that slog 🤣
You got everything thrown at you for sure on this one Noah! So jealous of the snowshoeing ;-) You all look pretty darn cheerful for being soaked through 💜
Awesome trip! Nice weather too 😅
I saw the Swedish flag on Jan's backpack, what's the story there, do you know?
All the best from Sweden 🙌
I went for a trip to the Scheren region a long time ago and loved it!
Great stuff as always!
You need to show how you camp every night. Its a great video.
You’re a hardy soul Noah! When I get cold on an outdoor winter trek, I am miserable. But, you guys take it in stride. Kudos to the 3 of you.
One of the nice aspects of travelling in Cape Breton in the winter is NO MOSQUETOS.
Noah .. you must feel out of place without those pesky characters.
That first shot of the road you hiked up on is where Lee and I started dragging our boats through the snow!
you are correct
Bet you wished you had those snowmobiles as they went by!?
I saw in another video that when you make coffee like this, you drop in a bit of snow, and it will take the grounds down to the bottom of your cup. I have never tried it, so I don't know if it really works.
Are there any overlanding trails there?
Great adventure as always
Wow not for the faint of heart, great video thanks Noah,Tristan and Jan.
Some challenging times, weather and train, so well done..
How much sleep were you able to get. Tough trip, tough guys!
