I love this good ending! Sonic sacrificed his own leg to save Tails and then Tails gave Sonic a new metal leg. It shows that they will always be there for each other.
why didn't he cut off the chain instead

This was a great ending it shows that Sonic does care for Tails and remember without a leg Sonic can’t run so he sacrificed more than just a leg he sacrificed his power but Tails was able to fix it in the end. This is one of the reasons why I love Tails he will always have your back. Also he is cute and more likable than any character ever so yeah

Sonic did not lose his ability to run. The speed is inside of sonic, not inside of his legs. However, it could take adjusting to, and possibly in a short time, sonic will be back to normal.

I like how in the bad ending, tails tries to cut.off his leg but dies from the pain anyway, but in this version it shows the will power and what sonic has gone through to be able to sacrifice himself to save people, and will stay by tails side, even in the bad ending, he stays by his side.
in the bad ending tails didn’t try to cut his leg off. he tried to cut the chain.

I just did some research,
*they could have saved Sonics leg*
It takes about 4-5 hours before a cut off limb bleeds out and it would take a long time to cut a chain with a knife unless this knife is serrated
The chain was a bit busted already

Dude, he cut off his leg and he got better. He got a robot leg that is so cool. I wish I had a robot leg then anytime somebody annoys me I can just pull it off and use it as a weapon.

his arms are too short to reach the chain and if he ducks down to cut it it will take too long and he will drown
Sonic's chain was fully intact but tails chain had been rusted in one spot to where he could break through that one spot if the chain on tails was also not broken then they both would've had to chop off a leg

1. Sonic sinks all the way down since he can't swim.
2. Tails can't carry Sonic while swimming.

You know, since Tails just came back to life using the bubble, then, Sonic could’ve just handed him the knife when he came back to life, and then Tails could’ve just cut the chain from there.
