The objective is to defeat the enemy aliens using grenades and other weapons. The story directly picks up at the ending of Ikari Warriors. Congratulated by General Kawasaki for rescuing him, Paul and Vince return home to their native country in a plane arranged by the general. A mysterious storm appears and they are hurtled thousands of years into the future. They are met by an alien creature who says that the villain Zang Zip has taken over the land.

I first seen this game in Santa Ana, Califirnia over 30 years ago. I had run away from home, was gone for 3 weeks and this dude eating donuts noticed me staring at the machine. He got it out of me that I was a runaway. He told me that a lot of kids that run away get killed or kidnapped.
"Don't be a statistic. Play the game for a little while and go home."
He gave me a couple dollars, I played the game for a while and went home. My dad was asleep on the couch. He woke up and hugged me.
    "I thought you were dead."
That guy I'll never know probably saved my life.

There was an Arcade machine for this at a hotel I stayed at. Someone gathered an audience, got the high score and explained he used to play it when it first came out. Here's the hard to believe part: The next morning I went in and beat his score by double. I think the green/red crab boss got me. I tried setting my score name to PIE but ran out of time so I went down as PIZ.

@@mongoloid8878 Actually the first real arcade I ever knew was one that was in the downstairs side-portion of a bowling alley we used to have in Carrollton, GA for a while. Then shortly after it shut down, it became remodeled into a Family Fun Center, with a long wall of nothing but arcade games on one side, and putt-putt golf, a space jump thingy, and anything else you can imagine. Some of the best times spent there between 1994-1997, but after the Playstation and N64 hit, that's when it began to die out and soon vanished. =/ A sad tale but one I'm sure many can relate to happening to their favorite arcade spots growing up.

In 1986 they had this at the base rec center where I always did the summer program. We could get all the way to the Demon Skull but it was just too much. There was an older kid who managed to beat it and there were about 10 of, watching in awe.
We always wanted the red sword (sword with red bullets), the armor and super grenades. We liked the sword because it could parry some enemy projectiles and the flamethrower hid too much of the screen for us to see the red enemy bullets.

I used to play the hell out of this game on the NES. It's interesting how this was a sequel and yet it was basically nothing like the first Ikari game. The 1st one was too damn long and this one was too damn short.....and let's not even talk about the 3rd one. That was like they took the worst elements of Guardian Legend, Metal Gear, Commando, Rambo and maybe even a little Rygar (and I'm sure a few others I can't think of right now) and made Ikari Warriors 3 with it. This 2nd game was still iconic though despite being short. Actually after watching this video, I prefer the NES version, mostly because of the sound, which kind of gets repetitive and annoying after awhile.
