98 games before being forced out by injury, coaching career cut short by illness, dead at 44, what amazing achievements this man realised in such a short time. I would love to see the new Essendon Football Club headquarters named after the great John Coleman.

Yes, me too, first game in 1949 and I was 10 years old. No TV and only radio in Yarrawonga on the Murray River.
TWELVE goals in his first game and I was hooked. it was Coleman first and Essendon second for the first 2 years.
Been a Bombers fan ever since. SOB!

As a teenager attending the opening round in 1973, it's an indelible memory to have been part of the solemn stillness of a packed Windy Hill, as the club and their Richmond opponents observed a minute's silence before the match.
Richmond won the game with one K. Sheedy kicking the winning goal. Sheeds went on to be Essendon's next premiership coach, after Coleman.

Coleman and hudson were not just great full forwards
    Just geniuses
Amazing Coleman's career is cut short tragically of injury
    And dies young
    That's unbeleivable

First saw Coleman in the 1950 Grand Final . What a champion , always remember his lightening leads and electrifying high marks and his accuracy kicking goals.
Was playing football in the EDFL, when word came down about Coleman’s injured knee , we were shattered.

@J G Pull your head in. Lawn bowls is the most played sport in the world, with 90% of Bowlers living in Australia. And Australian Rules is a must better spectacle than Soccer.

The Late, & Great Essendon Champion, That is the One & Only, John Coleman. He played only 98 Games & Scored Only 537 Goals, But He Still Died way too young at the age of 44 years old.

All any player can do is shine in whatever era they are in, and Coleman shone so very brightly in his. If you put the young Coleman in a time machine and brought him into the present day game, think of what he would have - money he could have only dreamed of, a thoroughly professional environment, the best medical attention (that would have easily fixed the injuries that finally sopped him in the old days) as well as vastly superior training and nutrition etc, etc... I reckon he'd get a game in the AFL alright!!!! The dude was probably ahead of his time as a player and a coach.

ridiculous comment, first of all why even post this, the video is a tribute to Coleman, its not like its a comparison or anything. Second of all how could you say not in the same league as Farmer, if Coleman had played 220 games he probably would have kicked about 1500 goals, if you actually watched the video it says, his form in the season he was injured in was the best of his career, and Coleman was playing in a much more competitive league too
