    Hans' music really set the tension and terror of the scene as Ray is panicking and Charlie is frantically trying to stop the alarm and calm his brother down at the same time.

    This scene is so bittersweet. Charlie loves his brother and will do anything to make him feel comfortable, but the alarm is out of his control and Raymond can't be left alone. Charlie realizes that he cannot live a "normal" life with Raymond, and has to resort to having Raymond go back to assisted living.

      @@migfirei despise the fact people say rain man somehow mocks the autistic. People with extremely high functioning autism,.to the point where they even understand they have it, shouldn't criticiae the film. Because raymond is an extremely high funtioning autistic person. For regular people to imagine, think of someone blowing leaves outside your window at 7:00 am on Saturday morning... for HOURS. This is the level of agitation that can be caused to certain people, by particular noises. It _is_ enough to make you want to bang your head against a wall... to do anything to distract yourself from the torture.

    This scene really scares me
    Even in real life, when an a fire alarm goes off, when I see someone going into an autism meltdown, that really gets me frightened for life, although I have a friend who has autism, loud noises trigger him and make him go into a really bad autism meltdown, I'm always there to help him and calm him down, I know how it feels.

    • @NLind
      @NLind 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really, these had hinged covers so all that happened is it unsnapped from the base. It could be put back on without a problem. Of course the real problem is in that in the actual alarm the battery connects directly to the circuit board not by wires. Of course this was written with the general public in mind, not myself and a few others who have interests in smoke alarms.

      I'm wondering if there is more to this scene. I'm wondering too why he couldn't get the oven open other than maybe it had a child lock on it. Also, a toaster oven does not burn up that fast when nothing's in it, so there must've been something in that oven that wasn't supposed to be there.

    Argh! This is why I don't like child resistant locks on appliances. I know it's necessary, but I want to be able to remove the varmint when it's not needed. I can only imagine how he felt. Kitchen hardware can be menacing to anyone even on a good day, so imagine what it's like for someone with these types of disabilities. :-(
