The replay feature seems like it would be great for content creators. Much easier to leave it recording in the back ground in case than worrying about missing something with their normal recording.
It's kinda similar to how saved replays work in Smash. Although one important limitation is this kind of replay can get broken by game updates. There might be a way to make a workaround but otherwise you'd essentially lose your old replays except any video recordings of them if you did that
the replay system is actually Great. If PvP tournaments or any other reward challenges, they could use it for livestreaming the characters allowing shot casters a lot more in-depth with stats and statics during a match. as well as a great feature for setting up content.
@@__gavin__ That seems obvious until you realize that Jagex is one of the least-skilled development teams out there, barely eking out mobile devs like Zynga.
That replay client is very interesting and useful! I imagine it would be helpful for getting b-roll or replays from different angles for cinematic sequences in videos without having to recreate it again. Like for Gielinor Games, Soup could just get everyone’s packet recordings and set the camera angles as he pleases. Really cool idea
That method is exactly how games like StarCraft do their replays, too - instead of video files, they just record the commands given and can replay that in-enginge. Also the reason why physics is different every time you replay those; the physics engine isn't recorded with the instructions and re-computes in real time. :D
The replay method sounds very similar to how old games like Doom captured replays. Instead of recording a video it records the inputs made (a much smaller amount of data) and then runs the game again using the those inputs. Very interesting stuff.
Hey, someone else said it too! I'm fairly certain that Dota 2 does a similar thing, but it streams 'live' data instead of saving 'old' data. (I mean, it does that too.) That way players in game can move the camera about, view different player perspectives, etc. Way cooler than watching a traditional stream, honestly.
I think someone like Soup would get a big benefit from the replay system. Get the perspective of all users in GG without needed to manually make his own B-Roll footage.
That replay thing would save SoupRS months of reshoots and work. He needs this for GG season 4. A note for the weather plugin, if it could override graphics plugins to set fog visibility, that would add a new layer to the immersion. Maybe talk to 117 and whoever makes the GPU plugin to integrate for this? I love the concept and it would be amazing to see how far it can be pushed.
Making a plugin for playback would be cool. I think you probably already covered this, but this was done for RSC before the servers were taken down and players used it to record basically everything in the game including quests. I imagine players would do the same in OSRS with this.
The recording of gameplay as movie files would be an incredibly awesome tool not only for bot hunters but also pvp-ers and pvm-ers too, so they could analyze fights... it would be nice if you let the developer know that they should definitely make it public.
Woah that game recording tricked he discovered is genius. Not only is does it record and take up less space, but it's interactable. Perfect for someone like you who is on the hunt for weasel bots
For the second one, in most games we would class it as a replay file. Alot of games use this as a low size format. It's remarkably useful, it also is great for when you want to report people for cheating/botting. Great for making videos too.
This seems really amazing for a ticket system. So devs can replay the moment they person was reported and see the surroundings see what led up to it and so on.
@@JamaiiQ nah in this context a demo is a series of inputs recreated in a video - quake is an example because videos werent something that could easily be shared, people would use demo tools to be able to replay the footage in game with their exact inputs
I played a game called Tibia, there was a mod called TibiCam which essentially intercepted all the packets, and allowed you to play it back. It was very cool, this was back in early 2000's. Runescape cam would be very figgin cool.
The replay plugin looks amazing. Think of the possibilities: First and foremost, as you already said: Botnames. If the program lets you interact and look up players and/or their inventory and name its easy to catch more botters that way instead of relying on footage alone. Secondly: This could be handy for tournament organisers: If every player sends in a session datafile the organisers could look more closely into what happened and easier detect cheating or bad behaviour. Thirdly: The filesize is much smaller, which allows easier storage of footage, and more of it. And it can always be played back to catch certain moments better on camera for more cinematic works.
This is great for so many things like multiple owner accounts trying for the hi-scores. Pretty sure they already have private versions of this but it would definitely even out the playing field a bit.
That gameplay replay fuction already exists for RuneScape Classic. It got made just before it shut down and you can use it to relive recordings of the final moments of RSC.
That's like the old Doom speedrun recordings which are also sort or replays that happen in the game, which is why you can watch like 20+ year old Doom speedruns in crisp HD. I also recall Gran Turismo 4 doing something similar where the game would recreate your race in the replay from all the data instead of actually recording
The replay system is a game changer for content creation, I wonder if you can use resizeable mode and/or detached camera plugin while replaying the demo. I hope it goes public or that I can get my hands on it, would be really cool to receive demo files from creators and be able to record custom broll footage and angles as needed. Also shout out to ScreteMonge, creator of the weather plugin, love his projects :)
I remember back in the early 2000s I tried multi logging once. I loaded two original game clients, typed in both the credentials and quickly clicked login on both, and was successful lol. I walked around for a minute hoping nobody would notice and proceeded to logout. Fun little experiment
Everyone knows how it would be abused for certain "services", but the actual gameplay mechanics being used in a raid or high end pvm encounter sounds fun. Requiring multiple players to control an object/machine/whatever using the same interface would be chaotic af and could result in hilarity.
Impressed I'm not seeing comments of how good the dual account login could be. You could literally have just your prayer tab/spell tab on the sides of the screen while the other is on the inventory. Boom no more F key swapping between. just point and click.
I've been playing SMITE since 2013, it's a pretty standard MOBA and it's crazy they did a runescape collab it made me so hyped, the two games I've played for the longest time in my life.
So glad smites getting some more love! For people just getting into it, theres an autobuy feature where it buys your items for the character your playing and auto levels your abilities! Fun game, super chill!
When a survival Stat gets too low maybe the screen could lose some saturation and add a strong vignette tunnel vision. When it's completely 0 then prompt player to drop all items and home tele. And what would take it to the next level is adding a survival virtual skill. Kinda like tile man mode, it tracks XP you can spend to improve your survival stats.
It would be so awesome to find a way to use that replay feature to make videos people can watch and interact with. Obviously would need audio synced from TH-cam video, but being able to have that tactile feel would be so cool
What you are talking about with the replay is called a demo. It's actually the old way that speedruns used to be recorded. You'd play through the game and send your demo in. Which is why the first big speedrunning site was speed demos archive.
the footage thing sounds similar to demos in old school FPS games, they record the input and recreate it ingame to mimic video recordings. This was used in games like quake, doom and even games like TF2.
That replay storing method is actually used in quite a few games because it is so effective! Smash Bros replays work basically the same way. It's awesome they were able to make it work with RuneScape!
I think the replay thing would be nice to help people understand the mechanics of various activities in game, almost like an interactive guide video but you are living it.
Interactive clips are crazy! Not to mention how helpful it could be with PVM, Raids, AND quest guides. Are interactive streams possible? Awesome vid as always!!!
The Data reply is really interesting because i would assume jagex uses a similar method to detect botting. using it to record and accessing exactly what you did in the last short bit of time before the ban could help you find patterns which could of alerted jagex of flagged behavior on the account. Imagine using some sort of AI to look for said patterns and ultimately narrowing down the detection methods jagex uses, making Bot designed to escape detection like every actions was apart of escaping an endless maze.
The possibility to replay gameplay like SourceTV demos for e.g. CS:GO is really cool. I imagine it'd be really cool to have a "demo" for your personal record inferno/corrupted gauntlet/combat achievement task/hallowed sepulcher WR etc, or to view clan fights/NH fights. Also assuming you'd be able to override the games cycle to increase/decrease the speed of the game/replay. Very cool. Kind of makes me wonder why Jagex hasn't implemented it themselves, at least not for Runescape 3, as a bundle to their RuneMetrics etc.
@@A7XdemesticPk Yeah it's unfortunate, hence mentioning it as a possible service for them to monetize. To sell "demo/replays/spectator-mode", I can realistically see that being implemented - not for free like the Hiscores.
5:34 this game called TIBIA, another old mmorpg, used to have "tibia cam" which is literally that plugin... and that was for OLD internet man... we could watch whole 3 hours seasons of hunting or pvp and there was a webpage dedicated to check for virus and stuff like that... good days, reminded me of it lol
That reply plugin sounds similar to "demos" from earlier call of duty's A player would record their demo, then pass that file to the editor and they'd replay / render it out with custom configurations (CFGs) and create montages. Mostly used in COD4 ProMod.
Recording gameplay demos is a much older thing than that though, going back to the original Doom and Quake etc. They worked basically identically to the system described in this video.
I’ve been playing RuneScape since 2017 and I’m so glad about this cross over it’s an amazing event. I bought all the skins. You can also earn capes that represent skill capes.
The replay client, as everyone has said, would be extremely useful. However, when I looked I didn't see a comment that talked about it's usefulness for PvP'ers. Being able to go back and watch a replay of you dying might actually give you insights on what you could have done differently to survive. Not only that, but the interactive interface allows you to possibly track other factors that you would not otherwise be able to track in a normal replay. I do hope this plugin comes soon as I would like to start PvP'ing myself and being able to learn from my own gameplay would be very useful.
@SirPugger for smite in arena mode it’s about the minions that go into your/their portal, The small people that are npc’s. also kills give points as well.
The Record plugin is pretty neat. It's similar to how DOOM and DOOM II would record demos, and undoubtedly other games. To put simply, in DOOM/DOOM II the demos aren't recordings in the "normal" sense. Instead, the game records player input. And then it replays those inputs in the game itself, kinda like an AI playing the game. There's more complicated stuff to ensure the RNG lines up, but even then? Certain things never will line up perfectly. Interestingly enough? This input method is also how cheaters are discovered on things like speed run forums for DOOM, as you can't really fake these inputs and get away with it for long.
3:50 you mean like the everyone account? that hannanie made, we got pretty far in the account before it was banned. got muted many times but got many quests and skills done
Have been using weather for a while now since it is just so good, and I highly highly highly highly recommend it. Probably one of the best plug-ins of the year in my opinion.
Holy shit, the replay client is fucking huge! It reminds me of what they do in Trackmania, where every replay is just a tiny file of data! And the fact that it's somewhat interactive blows my mind! Smaller files, while more interactive seems like an absolute win win!
This double logging could be used by real players in conjunction with scripts to give unfair advantages. As an example of you’re pking, you could have a seperate client running with a script to prayer switch based on automatically recognizing the other players attack style (range mage etc.). No need to involved 2 real players as that would cause too much confusion, however having a script to augment your playing ability could give you quicker reaction times and give you an unfair advantage.
Jagex should use that replay feature as a security measurement for bots. Since it requires low storage, they should make every account logged into that alt client as well. Then they could see direct movements of the player. Bots are obvious from a 1st person view, they switch and click so fast. Then have a AI detect which ones are suspicious and either block or send them in for review.
I'd really like to play with some actual survival elements. Not just "oh no your warmth bar ran out, time to black screen" but like, actually draining your real HP until you get warm. It's just not the same if I have to just go get myself killed some other way and just RP the weather getting me. Of course, that would basically need Jagex to integrate this into the full game, so it'll never happen.
The water food and warmth level is an awesome idea!!! That would maie the cooking supply consumed even more. And will make you use water even often and houses.
Dude that Smite ad part was so cute, you were playing bots in the footage and everything XD Fun game though, underated for sure 2.2k hours in it so I approve
the replay would be very useful for people learning things like solo cox/toa, inferno, cms etc. alot easier to learn when watching in first person and could also practise your clicks along with it
That replay recording method is insane, I assume it saves on CPU usage as well as storage, so this should become the default recording method for every game.
lol when you showed the part with clicking tabs and it not doing it for the other client just instantly popped an idea of ''okay someone will do pray switches, someone does inventory switches, someone eats, someone does helm takeoffs when making'' the multi log pking will be op haha
That replay client sounds similar to the recording mechanism that's in the original _Doom_ game... they use it to validate Doom speedruns & check for cheated runs. Essentially you can send someone a copy of your save file (which is relatively tiny, only a few Kb), they can load it into their copy of Doom & it will recreate/replay an exact copy. Someone even wrote a program to extract & list every keystroke & movement within the saved run so they can look for unnatural movement, spliced footage, etc... very handy! Bet there's a few RS TH-camrs who can make excellent use of a replay function. 👍
that replay plugin thing, that guy made, is similar to how the replay works in dota2. a moba game. and is also the same thing people use to cast live competitive games.
I love smite and I'm so glad they're sponsoring content creators now! That's so dope, I don't even play RS but the video popped up lol. Also I enjoyed the video.
The multiple people using one account is intersting. I can see people using this to win NH tourneys, one person doing the armor switches and attacks and the other focusing only on prayer switches/eating.
That brings account sharing to a new level 1st thing I thought about this was the everyone account run by hanannie would be crazy with this having everyone on at once
The replay feature reminds me of how CSGO and Tibia does it. And it would be really cool to see on my client people pking or pvming getting kills and drops. It would add a whole new level of interactivity to the game.
Holy shit, that's like War Thunder, PUBG and old Battlefield's game recordings. A very powerful tool for Esports-type casting, video producing and such!
The Replay feature looks like something Doom 2 has done which is amazing. Now you can check your friend to see if they actually did the inferno or they bought it

Wish the weather/survival plugin guy went off and made a private server for it, that'd be so cool to play.
3:50 you mean like the everyone account? that hannanie made, we got pretty far in the account before it was banned. got muted many times but got many quests and skills done
The whole replay and being able to interact with it makes me think cyberpunk. Yknow the missions where you go through logs of peoples memories? Crazy.
don't even play RS, haven't for a long time but love the videos, sick to see you play smite
The everyone experiment, but everyone can be logged in at the same time. I'm looking at you Hannanie
Got something special for you 📦.................................
What’s the name of the song at 7:28
ive been asking for a day/night and weather cycle for years, especially in RS3! this is amazing! Jagex can learn a lot from Gnome!
The water food and warmth level is an awesome idea!!! That would maie the cooking supply consumed even more. And will make you use water even often and houses.
Would the replay plugin show entering a bank pin or just the person clicking? Hopefully it would show scrambled numbers on the replay.
Dude that Smite ad part was so cute, you were playing bots in the footage and everything XD
Fun game though, underated for sure
2.2k hours in it so I approve
the replay would be very useful for people learning things like solo cox/toa, inferno, cms etc. alot easier to learn when watching in first person and could also practise your clicks along with it
That replay recording method is insane, I assume it saves on CPU usage as well as storage, so this should become the default recording method for every game.
lol when you showed the part with clicking tabs and it not doing it for the other client just instantly popped an idea of ''okay someone will do pray switches, someone does inventory switches, someone eats, someone does helm takeoffs when making'' the multi log pking will be op haha
That weather plug in is really amazing. Some of these people have talent and should be hired at jagex.
love those visual plugins, keep em coming
also, I think you forgot to mention that there is sound and that adds a lot of atmosphere, love it
Pking is going to be wild, like pacific rim fights with someone doing switches while the other prays and eats hahah
Sometimes I like to go to draynor manor, turn on my in game music and pretend i'm in a sirpugger video
Only thing I can legitimately think of for fun is some sort of twitch/TH-cam live interaction. How fun that could be.
twitch plays runescape would be so cool.
dozens of people logged int othe same account just to see what happens
If the replay system could work with Runelites camera, it would be really nice way to capture cinematics of a PVP fight for an example
Fun fact: that video-gameplay recording of inputs? Thats how the original DOOM recorded replays! And its still the way DOOM speedruns are verified! :)
Oh no, dont tell Hannah or were gonna get another social experiment
All we need is 3d skyboxes to match up with the weather and holy shit the game will be really nice
The replay feature is essentially the OSRS version of Halo's Theater mode. Great to have in any game.
Hananie’s everyone account needs to make a comeback with this.
Hannanie is gunna have a field day with that first plugin for the everyone account
i would actually be excited if jagex just made an account that everyone can log into at the same time that sounds insane
Holy shit, that's like War Thunder, PUBG and old Battlefield's game recordings. A very powerful tool for Esports-type casting, video producing and such!
The Replay feature looks like something Doom 2 has done which is amazing. Now you can check your friend to see if they actually did the inferno or they bought it
I've always thought weather in RS would be a nice touch. So to see it come to life as a plugin is pretty cool.
I wonder if the interactive replay has any cinematic applications for intros to videos and such
