    There's likely more than 101 different ways of doing any particular job, but watching another person doing that job will often provide a whole new insight that once seen can save time, or improve quality the next time you tackle that job. Thanks Paul, I really enjoy all your content.

    Hi Paul. Four years ago, when lockdown was announced I immediately ordered all I needed to replace my side fence. Over the first four weeks of lockdown I “enjoyed” myself replacing the old sagging panel fence. I had time to get it right, removing the old concrete and putting in the new posts. Compared to the previous fence “thrown up” by the overpriced fence company, my fence is straight, solid and standing strong. It pleases me every day I see it.
    Having time to do a job properly pays off. Well done Paul, cracking job. Using “Irwin clamps” does make the job much easier.👏👏👍😀

    Nice looking fence Paul, but great I didn't need a reminder I have a gate and a fence to replace as well..Lol
    Were finally having some real nice weather as well. Seemed like a real long winter season this year.
    Enjoyed,

    Hi Paul, well done very enjoyable to watch and really well narrated.
    Your apprentice seemed to be part time on this one, I would dock his pocket money if I were you!!
    It looked a perfect moment to take on a job like that, the ground looked easy to dig to get those post supports out, I really wouldn't want to tackle ones set into concrete.
    The only thing missing was the smell of creosote, probably a hard one to transmit on TH-cam. I suppose these panels are pretreated and dont need anything else.
    Great job and video. All the best!!

    I think you did a brilliant job. I had to do my front fence a year or so ago. Both my gardens abut a pavement and so the posts are concreted in but the concrete from the pavement footings and posts amalgamated. I had to change 15 posts in all at the front that had rotted out. Working with a big SDS breaker I took about 25kg of concrete out of each post. Put the posts back in with postcrete. They should be there when I am not! Congratulations on a job well done anyway. I loathe fencing. Thinking about it makes me nauseous!

    • @HaxbyShed
      @HaxbyShed  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Carl I like any job where I can hit something with a hammer. And the satisfaction of saving money drives me on. Last time I took out concrete post bases I dug all around them and then gradually back-filled with earth whilst moving them around. It gradually brought the concrete blocks to the surface without too much effort but the crater around them by then was huge. 🙄

    • @carlwilson1772
      @carlwilson1772 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@HaxbyShed You did a great job with the fence. Sadly the concrete I had to deal with was not isolated, it had become one with the foundations of the pavement. So the breaker was the only option. I was doing 2 posts per day as an average, it was hard going!

    Very good job you should put a wood burner out in your shop that would keep your shop warm

    • @SeanBZA
      @SeanBZA 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Treated wood, and from the age likely chromated as preservative as well on the old wood. Not good to burn, but if you can get lots of used broken HT marked pallets they are fine as the HT marking means heat treated, ie they got kiln dried at 80C for a week, which kills all the bugs in them.

    • @HaxbyShed
      @HaxbyShed  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We may be a smokeless zone here .... I pinched these words off the internet "Wood is not specifically listed as a smokeless fuel, so many people assume they can't burn it in smokeless zones. However, by using a Government-certified stove (also known as an exempt appliance), good quality, dry wood can be used safely." So it comes down to whether my rotty old fence panels are good quality. 😁

      Not the treated wood, that is toxic from the preservatives. Only use HT treated pallets, as those are chemical free.

      @@SeanBZA true but all smoke is a collection of toxic chemicals given off when wood burns, commonly wood is treated with copper and arsenic compounds, but in very tiny amounts or it would be unsafe to handle!

      Well Geoff, that and having a fence 30 years old which has been falling down for a decade or more. The arch lost it's top at least 8 years ago. Since forever on and off we have been considering "what to do with the garden?" but I called time out on that discussion and just rebuilt the existing fence. Cheers

      @@HaxbyShed We live on a high spot and one Westerly was gusting hard against the windward side. This was a double skin natural stone and breeze block wall and I thought it was about to collapse. Your previous construction lasted very well and the new one is really neat. The shots looking up into the magnolia were well composed, especially with the blue sky background. I remember that nice day, the only one since 5th November.
