And in our comparison test last year, we determined that the best in the class was the Honda Odyssey. But now there's an all-new 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan overstuffed with features to challenge for the coveted crown.

I like the Odyssey more. More Spacious and last larger. Plus it got good test crash testing.

we tested one 2008 Grand Caravan SXT 4.0L V6 120,000miles with swivel n go seats, we loved it, 4.0 has power 251hp, felt like driving a muscle car lol but no and it spins the wheel and chirps no matter where u at, has great low end power. and gets 25mpg average. handles very well but ride quailty is ok u can feel every bumps but still rides great. SXT package is nice! it comes with all in front and rear seating heated seats, dual climate control, VES DVD and Video games with 110V, SirusRadio, NAV, back up camera, swivel the seats with table, electric 3rd row seat recliner, power liftgate and sliding doors, many more its like fully loaded. great van. note, if u get stow n go seating, they are bit smaller less cushion so fits in the floor its uncomfortable for long trip, the swivel n go had more cushion and lot more comfy for long trip and it doesnt go into the floor, will take it off for more cargo space. looking forward to get one.

i have a 1996 dodge grand caravan and i carried 1926 pounds of cargo in the back over the weekend with no problems it is a awesome vihicle and has served me well.
I agree. The neon,pt cruiser and 300m were market leaders. These cars started trends seen today. The Pacifica started the crossover trend and is a nice car. Same as the Crossfire.

I have a 07 Grand Caravan with the 3.8L V6, and it used to put out 285 hp....I tuned it up to over 300....at most stoplights, the front end break loose, causing it to go to the right a lot of times...I keep the trac off, because I left it on one time and when I left the light, I blew one of the tires, or as they say, ripped it!
The Honda feels very nice and solid on the road and so does the interior. The Caravan's interior is GARBAGE, though I'm sure they've improved upon that, with the upgrades from last year.
People have opinions. I personally would rather buy the dodge grand caravan. (my family has a 2004 model, and my parents bought it brand new, and it still runs to this day, thats 12 years!!)
I'm driving a 1995 honda odyssey, and it has just under 300.000km on it and it still runs like a top! The only problem here in canada is the rust of course!
Oddessey is betta!!! We have both we traded in dodge caravan for oddyssey we like the oddyssey better. It has power steering and a luxury touch. The caravan does not have a luxury touch. If you have kids or grand kids or you like to travel the oddyssey is better. Also the oddyssey is better on gas 28 mpg and 24 for city .... The caravan only gets 20 hwy mpg with city mpg as 18. Also the oddyssey is suoer carged making it just stronger than a v6. The oddyssey is also more sylish . So the oddyss

ok well that wasnt right for them to compare the prices like that...considering they maxed out the engine option on the dodge, had they done a standard feature comparison like they gave for the oddesy they would have found that the prices are almost the same, and actually the dodge is starting at around $22,000 because of their employee pricing offers
you have to remember the newer odysseys are alot heavier which makes them slower...the fastest odyssey was the 2002 i believe. very quick minivan...one beat my brothers ford probe gt and it wasnt stock either.
New Caravan is nice and has some cool features, but I like the Odyssey better.
Compared to the Odyssey, the Caravan is cheap and un-refined, due to the use of hard plastics, uneven/sharp edges or finishes, large panal gaps on the exterior, and an unrefined engine compared to the Honda. Also, the Odyssey is more reliable and hold up better. The Odyssey uses top-notch materials and has a refined suspension system and engine. However, on egranomics, the Caravan wins. And, the Odyssey feels like a sports car when driving too.
on my Acura TL I've just had my 2nd transmission replacement. that's about the Japanese reliability. it's a myth. A car ( any ) is just as reliable as you take care of it
+Marton Sarudi change your transmission oil at 30K and filter at 100K and you will be just fine. (3 drain and fills will replace all of it.)

snorman1911 I drove my 2000 Accord V6 to 287 000 miles. The tranny acted out quite a bit
Sergei Zhukov Yep all Honda V6 transmissions around 99-03 suffered the same failure modes. 04-05 a bit better but still have problems. 06-07+ are much better. I had an '01 Accord and the tranny went out, replaced under warranty. It got totaled shortly after so I don't know how long it would have lasted :)
I daily an 02 odyssey and that thing is a tank. 224k miles and lately it's been used as a work van hauling a trailer along tools and random parts inside like it's nobody's business. Still chirps the tires when it changes to 2nd gear while wot.
Instead of the Pacifica you should get a Magnum!

The Honda it's cheaper, good breaks, steering, higher quality finish and certainly more durable + it will do more miles, and I'll bet it's better on the gas making it better for your pocket and the environment too. The only trouble is once you've seen the JDM odyssey you will think this one has a ugly front. So use the money you will save from initial purchase, less repairs, and devaluation, and find your self a black JDM one

I bought 2007 Odyssey new, EXL DVD and Navigation. Today, she has 227K mi (9/2021) and is still running. No problem on transmission. Engine had oil leak 2yrs ago but fixed (that's the major issue to me). Other than that, minor issues like driver side door latch, alternator, AC compressor, pwr steering pump, batteries, starter, suspension, ... got them all repaired or replaced.

I love my Honda odessy 2006 touring. What they didn't mention is the amazing fuel economy. If you can afford a touring buy one... there is no other van on the market that will do more, carry more, or work harder for you.

My sister had an '03 Caravan that constantly had problems with the AC (she went several summers with no AC because of the cost to fix). She replaced it with a '15 Caravan (against my recommendation for the Odyssey). I rode in it the other day when it was very hot out, and guess what - the AC did not blow very cold air even thought it was set at 64 degrees. My '06 Odyssey and even my old '02 TL will still blow ice cold air.

If you like the Odyssey, you'd love the 2013 Sienna SE. I said I'd never get a van, but when I saw this van, it's really not that much of a compromise. It's very sporty looking, and comfortable. I love it.
I have a 2010 odyssey best car I've ever owned. Comfort, performance, reliability, easy to fix.

I have driven both new 2010 Dodge and 2010 Odyssey. Dodge feels like you in a plane cus of the inside lighting feature and the TouchScreen DVD and backup can is a Plus. but ride quality and handling sucks big time. On the other hand Odyssey feels more well built and great handling. After all it's a Honda. A name you can trust always.
Plus in the long run it will last longer and worth something. Thats why I Bought a Odyssey.... ;)

2020... my Honda odyssey 2008 still running very good, just have road trip last week Denver to Los Angeles and Grand Canyon and back to Denver Colorado. Nonstop driving.
I rock my Honda Odyssey. It's bad ass I can sit comfortably in the backseat have a lot of red leg room sit back relax and watch the TV. I did upgrade kind of I have a Roku stick

the as base as it gets Honda starts at $29000 and the caravan third up the ladder sxt starts at $24000 I couldn't even afford a Honda but I got a real nice Caravan. If you got a Caravan crew that starts at $28000 you would get a lot more for the money including leather and soft to the touch and better made switchgear. This was a one sided test bias to Honda.
my family had a dodge grand caravan for 3 years then the transmission went out. we have had our odyssey for 5 years now and it has never had one problem

Honda is 1000x better. Dodges are cheap under engineered crap.
This Odyssey ran circles around that generation of Grand Caravan, despite having a design that was 3 years older. And Chrysler just discontinued that same generation of Grand Caravan. Imagine having a brand new van that's not even as good as a 16-year-old van from another manufacturer.

Yeah, don't get that dodge. When the blower stops working in the rear, to reprogram the control module, was over $400. They said the video was outdated. It worked 2 weeks (off and on) , then they wanted $1600 to replace the module and the directional doors. My friend is not too happy about it.

Dodge Caravan has definitely improved. The 3.3 is not the greatest of engines. Honda does have better reliabilty and resale value. Personally I'll take a odessy but kudos to chrysler for improving.

@p0pe1991 When the minivan is the first car that the son or daughter gets to drive, that becomes important. The combination of doing burn-outs in the school parking lot, and being able to comfortably seat six members of the opposite sex all help a minivan to overcome some of its cattle-car image. Besides, that Grand Caravan will beat one of them there manly F-150s in the 0-60. Then of course, there's always plenty of room to put a Hemi in the rear and have the ultimate drag racing sleeper.
No mean to burst your bubble or anything, but I don't care about weak, power is not important to me, in fact all people I know will never even take their cars on to the track. I mean yes, braking and control counts, in terms of being safe and all, but what appeals to the average family would be reliability, fuel efficiency, and room. So who cares if the Malibu has a stronger engine than a Camry, if I wanted performance and speed, I would buy a Vette, or something!

honda oddysey has 2 engines, a 244hp v6 on the lx and ex, and a 241 hp v6 on the ex-l and touring models with the multy cylender tecnoligy. They were showing the 241 hp touring with pax

Always liked the 1st gen Dodge Grand Caravan with the Chrysler/Mitsubishi 3 Litre V-6 and 3spd. automatic it will outlast any Honda Odyssey even with 230 000miles on the clock.
@soccermomd00d Never seen the dash layout on the 08's and up, only that i've never had a complaint about my mom's 02 dash, works very well. Maybe it's so nice because i'm used to the 73-87 Chevy truck interior, when trucks were trucks with no features or comforts, just what they needed to get the job done. Anywho, I agree Chrysler does need to step it up with the interiors, i've always liked the leather interiors but am not impressed by the cloth seats in mom's van.

Minivans are the shit. Practical and spacious. It's like being in first class on a decent plane lol. Plus, with the seats out/stowed, you can haul so much stuff inside. 🤔 I wonder if anyone sells lift kits for the old 4 wheel drive caravans...

The dodge caravan is FILTH it will never compare to the Honda Odyssey, the dodge brand is always characterized by being a bad brand in all aspects.

Those dodge vans are extremely quiet and soft riding vehicles. That's the reason they've always sold pretty well. Comfy riding.
Grand caravan has repeater. Honda Odyssey doesn't have a repeater because it's older than the Grand caravan 2008

That extra displacement the dodge has gives more torque at lower rpms. When moving heavy weight torque is the name of the game not horsepower.
I know you wrote that 2 years ago but the Chrysler vans are actually made in Canada and the Odyssey is made in Alabama, so when you buy the Chrysler van you are actually supporting the Canadian economy
I'm not really a fan of minivans, but I'd take the Honda because it's a Honda. It will always be better than a Dodge.
The Chrysler Minivan is built right in my backyard (literally) in Windsor, ON. The Dodge Grand Caravan and Chysler Town and Country are awesome! Too bad they're discontinuing the Grand Caravan soon. Hopefully they'll build something else in the plant to replace the Grand Caravan (they'll still be building the new Town and Country there) or else they might have to get rid of a shift (they have three right now).

***** 3.6 that has 283hp it nosey it likes to down shift a lot. I own 2014 and I hate it. Stow n go nice but it doesn't have same confort as the 4th had. Also own very nice 2000 grand caravan es awd and it is very comfortable and very power motor. It has a 3.8 liter v6 and it is quicker then my 3.6 v6 in my new minivan

Oh we have a 2006 Grand Caravan and my dad has a 2014 for work and he loves both. I like driving the 2006 a lot. We also have a 2014 200 and it's a great car. I don't think they'll change their minds though. The Town and Country will be continued though which is similar to the Grand Caravan.

We had a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan with lots of rust. Its now rust in peace. We now own a 2008 Honda Odyssey. We like it so far. Lots of options and comfortable ride.
