I remember that big building at 0:07 was an Alexander's back in the early 80's. I would play hooky from junior high and take the bus there and spend the day popping in and out of all the stores. I haven't been there in over 35 years but seeing this takes me right back to 1983.

I'm from Brooklyn and I use to hang out in the bronx right around this area in the 1980s. That very same side of Poe Park on the Grand Concourse had benches exactly where that black gate is. The benches ran all the way up the Concourse facing the grand Concourse when I use to go there and I tell you it was so much fun hanging out there in the 1980s. All up and down the Grand Concourse on those benches were filled with people on friday and Saturday nights dressed in 80s fashionable clothing. And someone always had a boom box with some great music playing. It literally felt like an outdoor club. The very first time a friend brought me to Poe Park in the 1980s I was hooked. The atmosphere was so cool and I met so many people that throughout the 1980's I spent my teenage years more in the Bronx than I did in Brooklyn. People would literally hangout on those benches till day break every friday and Saturday night. It's sad to see all those benches gone and replaced with an ugly black fence. In the 1980's all my friends during those years lived in the bronx up and down the Grand Concourse from tremont all the way to 207th street. I had so much fun those years hanging in Poe Park and crashing at different friends apartments. It's sad to say many have passed away but there memories continue to live on in my mind. I tell you one thing the bronx has many huge apartments and not only huge but nice old apartments with sunken living rooms and parkay floors. Many don't know but the Grand Concourse was the Park ave of the bronx many years ago. With beautiful well kept art deco lobby's. There are many picture books of the bronx from the 1930s, 40s showing how the bronx once was. I still live in Brooklyn which has been so gentrified it's ridiculous but it's my home. The bronx will always have a special place in my heart for all the good times I had and great friends I made which I'm still in contact with a some.

I live in Manhattan and looking to a Bronx move and raise a family. Overall cost of living is lower in the Bronx I hear. I'd rather remain in my boro but it'd be a bit much on the budget for family expenses. Will be neighborhood hunting soon.

Very sad to see the majority of New York has become a ghetto of urban decay. Crowded, poverty, real struggle, hunger, gangs, drugs, robberies, murders, sub-standard housing,
people purposely being killed in the subways, rats, roaches, etc! The safer & cleaner areas are affordable only by those who have the financial means. I left New York years ago when I joined the U.S. Army, & I am never going back! My entire family has moved out of New York too!

The murder rate in NYC is far lower than it was from the mid 1960s to the early 2000s.

Grew up on Decatur, it looks like he passed by Poe park. My mother worked at Alexandra during the 60s and 70s. My fathers bar was the Harry Hub on Fordham.
