Hobie I know you do a lot of trout fishing but what rod would you suggest for a noob just getting into the BFS world for Crappie fishing lakes only. My main lure weight is 1/16oz. Right now I have the 7ft Shimano Sensilight Light action. It seems like the lightest thing I can throw consistently is 1/8oz. And that is far to big for Crappie. When I’m not throwing something like a 1/16oz Trout Magnet I’m throwing a 1/32oz Popeye with a floater. I got into BFS because I like casting reels better than spinning gear.
The Phenix Classic BFS can do those crappie weights. I would check out an UL BFS rod if looking for super light casting. You may need a Roro aftermarket spool for your reel as well.
@@HobieWanKenobi the reel that I have right now is the Zephyr and I’ve only seen bearings for my reel. I am going to try new bearing to see if that makes any difference in the casting of 1/16oz lures. Thank you for your time.

If you dont want to do the esterline video , then leave esterline out and do Braid vs Mono vs Fluorocarbon . In Ultra light angling with spinning reels you can find this info . Not much at all has been done with bfs setups . We know braid outcasts Mono on a spinning reel but does it out cast Mono in BFS and on a baitcaster ? Is there a difference in tragectory between the lines ? Can one cast lower weights than the other ? You could do it diameter vs diameter or lb for lb which would be very interesting . x4 braid cuts in more than x8 braid of the same diameter . x8 braid is thinner than x4 braid . So lb for lb or diameter for diameter does x4 choke the cast due to cutting in more ? I think this would be a great and very educational video . It will come up in the youtube search for years for anyone searching the topic on baitcasting reel and in BFS . @@HobieWanKenobi thanks for the reply. I do plan to use the dobyns for ned rigs and bass type lures. I guess I more or less am asking for trout or panfish/bluegill size recommendations 1/16 oz or less
The Dobyns Sierra can cast weightless bass plastics quite well with a stock SLX BFS. SLX BFS can cast 2gr pretty nice in open water with a harder cast like for panfish. Stream fishing, I would say about 3gr but, 4gr feels better. The shorter casting of stream fishing is more challenging for a reel.

Orange Abu spinner
So, this rod didn't become your most favorite? Which same type rod's you like more? Are any of those less expensive?
It isn't a bad rod, I found it to be pretty good with smaller trout. I prefer to use fiberglass rods as they have more cushion when fighting the fish. The Palms Egeria NATIVE Performance XXUL I think will be my go to small trout rod.
Great content, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Im getting into BFS now that I’m retired. I have a Daiwa Steez ct sv tw 70hl reel I bought a couple years ago that I never used, can I use it for BFS stuff if you know? Its a tiny finesse type reel …
Its kinda on the border line. You can always try and see how you like it. I think its a super versatile reel
Is that the slx 70?
This reel is the SLX BFS.
First go to lure was a spinnerbait
I used to lean on the spinnerbait a lot. I just got back into using them this past year.
Do you have link for you next please?
Here is a link to the net I use: baitfinesseempire.com/product/handy-pak-ghost-series-insta-net/
@@HobieWanKenobi Thanks
Nice Content. Continiously. Good job. Btw:
My first trout (Most beautyfull fish in the world😜) was a browntrout on a 3g-Copper-Spinner.
„Spinner geht immer“ 😎
Awesome!!! Glad you got your first trout!!!
Has anyone tried the newer more expensive kastking on tackle warehouse? Is it or the zephyr good enough to try and see where I would use it. I don’t have any issues with spinning reels. I have a cheap zebco 6 ft glass or composite thats very whippy and parabolic. It has a pistol grip . i think a pistol grip would be good with a bfs reel
If you are talking about the KastKing Kestrel, I have used it. I have a video using it.
@@HobieWanKenobi I meant the less expensive
🔥 video gotta love trout fishing the scenery and those beautiful trout! I just uploaded some trout fishing videos they were a blast to make cannot seem to find anyone else that’s 16 and interested in fishing as much as me!!
Thanks for watching. Glad to see you are into fishing
Are you still using this rod?
Hear and there. I have been testing rods so, it's hard to keep all my rods in a lineup 😂
@@HobieWanKenobi Bought one today. Now my only problem is when I get time to try it 🤣

I like videos fren..
Thank You!!! I appreciate you watching.
Where are you fishing? The sewer?
This is a creek that feeds into a bigger river.
Jackson lures very expensive
Compared to other JDM brands, Jackson is the best value. Wide variety of lures at usually lower prices than other JDM brands
I am purchasing my lures from AliExpress. I got a lot of JDM lures I hate when I lose them
@@alexdashevsky2180 I like near a lot of pike so, I feel your pain.
$25 lure really worth it lol
Nope 😂
🕊🥰😘Fantastic🔥! * Now my core is burning indeed, but I'm Shiofuki-momoo.Uno not sure if the girls would have been equally excited of my performance like they were of Mel's😉!❤ And it's soo funny to see how much these overly playfulb girls actually kept of your attention 🤩
My videos make all the girls excited...and I keep their attention too 😎
