- The border around Pheasant Island is the only border in the world affected by time. It moves twice a year making the island Spanish for six months and French for the rest of the year.
France and Spain are two historically powerful nations and have spent a lot of time in conflict. Pheasant Island is a symbol of peace though. It was designated neutral territory and was where the two kingdoms signed peace treaties.

I remember first hearing about this in the 1989 eight-part BBC documentary series called 'Frontiers' which was a time-capsule of what was happening at the time.
What a silly thing and they keep it going.
Neither France nor Spain is willing to give this island away to the other side Would we have Olympic games if national pride didn't exist? People need a sense of belonging...
