I'm a bit late this week to viewing, been very busy. But another lovely and informative video. I always appreciate y'all sharing. The deer here, love to eat my grapes. I don't spray or use chemicals on anything. So my fruits and veggies never are pretty, and I lose half to wildlife. It's all good. I read somewhere that a guy was having a difficult time with a groundhog eating his garden crops, so instead of removing the animal or spraying to detour the animal, he instead planted an another garden just for the groundhog of all the things that the groundhog ate most of. I always thought that was neat. I think remembering that we share this land is so important. They were here long before we were. I have dug and "planted" 5 plastic/rubber containers. You know the ones you buy in the store for decorative water features/garden ponds. I buried them throughout my acreage and fill them constantly with fresh water. 3 times a week, they get fresh water added to them. We've been lucky really this year that we've gotten rain...but in past years drought has been so hard on the surrounding wildlife. So I try to do what I can to help when I can.
I do think our language toward wild things need to change. Animals become "pests" native plants "weeds". "Overgrown " is another terrible word. I like the word "natural landscape". Here in Missouri, we have a place called Shaw Nature Reserve. It's a botanical park for just native stuff. It's super cool. I love how they make the native plants look intended. There's also a gentleman from Jefferson City Missouri who sells only Missouri native plants and seeds. My yard isn't all native but it's very "natural". Minus the veggie/herb and small flower garden I have It's woods, hedges and prarie fields. We stopped planting the fields last year. And it's surprising how quickly the soy and corn dissappear. How quickly the grasses and Queen Anne's Lace, the chicory and clover and other wild flowering plants take over. It is neat to see. Anyway...here I am rambling again. Until next week, good earth blessings to both of you as well. 🫶🌎🌍🌏🙏
