Very significant that you said "what I focused on for the next few months". It models to us the number of repetitions of a movement habit that it takes to embed it as a physical habitual pattern, & reinforces that it takes persistent work to develop an effective stroke. Thanks Brenton.

This was cool! Learning that you are a mere mortal who used to make the same mistakes as everybody else was great and gave me some hope for the future.

Thank you for sharing how you improve your own stroke. Very relatable! 👍
I'd love to see more videos like that.

The pedagogical philosophy of your approach is so impressive. This is why I come to Effortless Swimming. Thanks for modeling this minor improvement you discerned and made. The before/after discussion gives me something to work on in my own slow-poke improvement of my own strokes.

Brent The concept of improving your catch using the appropriate drill instead of relying on swimming more often the stroke is really interesting. Thank you for bringing that up to our attention. This approach seem to be working for me only if I quickly try to integrate what I have learned in the drill to the full movement otherwise I just improved my drill skill without having improved my swimming skill.

I just learned to swim three weeks ago, taking two lessons/week, and “what I focused on the next few months” made me feel so good because it was realistic and relatable. Thank you for the great drills and tips.

UGH I'm having the same issue with my left arm. When I take a breath to my right I notice my left arm drops quickly and ventures towards my midline, also causing over rotation during the stroke and shoulder pain throughout the day. I will try these drills for sure. Thank you!

Yes I do this too and have had the same advice to go deeper - I think it is so ingrained in me though it is really hard to change

Work on your left side hamstring / left hip mobility. Also focus on your left ankle

You are not alone. Every time I want to address an issue with my swimming, I come to your website Brendon and the particular video is front and centre. I find this problem messes up any chance of me connecting with my core rotation and kick. I try all your drills but clearly need to persist with them for longer.

BRENT !!! A request please ! Could u film your first time back in the water after the lockdown is responsibly lifted . I bet you’d just carve it up mate ! I’m in Sydney and I’ve been back for two months I still remember my first swim back , it felt like I was home I was so happy . I did a good time as well . So I can only imagine how you would go first time back . And thank you for today’s video I’ve been watching my stroke , and that paddle stroke seems to be the way to go for me .
But hang in there Melbourne , your numbers for COVID are improving . You’ll all be back soon !

i find that i do a mix of the important drills during warm up, it gets my brain activated on what to do. Id like to do it in a main set as a rest lap or two to recalibrate

I have been practicing sidekick with straight arm on my weak side, but I'm constantly drifting over to either the ropes or the wall.
    How do I fix this?

Is there any good way to film oneself without professional equipment? (i'm a beginner but it feels like now is when I need the most feedback before I practice too much with a bad technique that I then need to try to "unlearn")

I know this is late, but I film myself with my smart phone, just put it in a Ziploc bag and it can become waterproof. If you do this though, definitely take precautionary measures. Make sure you test the Ziploc in the water before putting your phone in , and then seal the top with packaging tape. I hope this helps!

Much improved,. That older stroke is a mess!
For those with similar bending of the wrist issue,. I suggest having them swim with a over grip on big paddles. Don't use straps, reach over the paddle and hold it. That will put the paddle om your wrist.
Other gear can be used,. You could make your own forearm paddles,. Finis fulcrums will also force a swimmer to not bend the wrist like that. They also make or at least made a forearm/ wrist/ hand paddles. Don't remember what it's called.

One thing I noticed is that the side where my breathing is wack. Is that my neck is not that flexible compared to the other side. I either lift my head to compensate to breathe, or I'm not high enough to breathe, or my arm automatically goes down.

    • @dlrsnate5100
      @dlrsnate5100 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes focus on your symmetry. The hardest part of working out your off side is relaxing the main side.
