I used to have the Bosch 10" job site table saw with gravity stand ( great motor), but then I traded up to the Dewalt 10" table saw (DWE749) with mobile stand, the stand is so sturdy under load, it's worth buying the Dewalt for that reason alone, the back legs are angled way out, and it's like the saw is bolted down. Great when ripping sheet material.

At 5:35 min, you wished that it had a leg leveling system. The right, front leg has an adjustable foot. I wish that it also had a spirit level built in., but that may be asking too much. But most importantly it is stable. I found that for its price range, this model is well stabilized.

I tried this out in the store today. The fence had quite a bit of flex when extended off the table. It was sitting right next to the dewalt dwe7491. It's obvious that hitachi is working with dewalt on This model. There is more similar with these two then sawstop and Bosch , if you know what I mean. The biggest thing for me was the fence flex and the fact that instead of having the flip over piece like the dewalt on the fence that gives support in full extension it rotates. What this means is unlike the dewalt you can't flip that part over the fence while it's on the table ripping narrow pieces where on the dewalt it acts like a spacer to be able to still safely use a push stick with narrow stock. For a home diy or woodworker that's a disadvantage that could be worth the difference in price.
A Concord Carpenter / ToolBoxBuzz that's true but those thousand people are a great durability test. The dwe7491 sitting next to it probably had the same thousand people play with it. I'm really torn because it has a lot of great features. Outside of the fence that felt a tad bit flimsy in the locking latches, could have been the setup, I wouldn't have blinked an eye at buying it over the Dewalt and using the $ 180 in savings for something else in the shop. But now I see this is coming and I'm like, no way ,lots of torque and a rack and pinion fence. th-cam.com/video/vlKb0uccYvw/w-d-xo.html
Bought this at big box blue store on sale & because I liked the portable wheels. Failed after few uses, cutting soft redwood. I could not return because I waited after 90 days to start using it. Soft-start module failed and prevents reset. Part is back ordered 3-6 months. Look at all the 1 star reviews on Amazon and Lowes website same exact problem. When I tried to leave a review on Hitachi website for this saw, they rejected it, very dishonest on their part since I was warning people about their defective soft start sensor which will prevent you from starting the saw even if it's not hot and you wait 24 hours. There is nothing you can do except wait 3-6 months for this back ordered part. Hitachi customer support is bad, they don't care so buyer beware. This saw should be recalled. How is it they have parts to keep selling it in store, but can't provide parts for service and they have bad customer service.

Fantastic review. I just picked this up at Lowes for $312. I was curious about the dado set. I have seen complaints about the riving knife be a pain when it comes to installing a dado set. I am yet to attempt it.
Great review. I do have to laugh about the folding leg button complaint. I have this saw and have no issues opening or closing the legs so I do have to laugh but in a review there always seems to be something to complain about no matter how slight a issue is. Great saw...great price and it won your shootout against all the big boys. Keep up the good work and if able try not to complain about something so minor as it really is a first world issue.
This is definitely a copy of the Dewalt 7491rs. Dewalt's legs are MUCH easier and faster to use. I do wish the Dewalt had the outfeed extension, though.
The lack of an outfeed is what's driving me away from the Dewalt. I typically don't have a second pair of hands to help me on a lot of my home projects, so an outfeed table is kind of a must for me. I know there's work arounds, but for $500-$600, why couldn't they include an outfeed?
Hi I just bought a Hikoki and i dont like the rack and pinion is erratic noisy and the two rails have lateral movement so will not be very accurate can i improve the slides ? thanks Kind regards George
I loved it myself for about 4 months. Then all the sudden it wouldn't cut on. There's no sawdust anywhere cuz I cleaned it off and use a vacuum with it. Any ideas? I couldn't find the fuse if that's the issue.
what makes the DeWalt fence better than the Hitachi? I'm either buying a rolling stand for my current DeWalt or buying the Hitachi at $349.99 at Lowe's.
Bought the Hitachi at Lowes, year end special sale for $299. Had to wait for delivery but was not using the saw during g that time. So far I like the saw, it was easy to assemble and cut good even with the factory blade. Bought a 60 tooth blade for it , have not installed it yet.
Great review! Hitachi has done a complete 180 in the past year; they've come out with the best impact on the market in the Triple Hammer, the most powerful cordless drill with their recent hammer brushless model, and have introduced some excellent new cordless nailers. I have the DeWalt 745 and have been on the fence between keeping it and buying a stand or returning it and buying this Hitachi. Either way I'd be spending about the same, but the DeWalt would be more portable since it can detach from the stand (but doesn't include dado capacity which isn't a big deal for me). Which would you recommend?
nice review, as usual. i am looking ( a little bit) for a new portable table saw. still occasionally my falling apart 20 yr old junker, as frustrating as it is, but researching now might make it easier to pull the trigger if i see a good deal-maybe used. can't justify much money for use at home...
theres no adjustment for squaring the miter slots to the blade. I can not find that info anywhere. Is this what you have found? and no its not on page 40 of the manual.....
I did love my Hitachi 10" saw but first the manual for it really sucks. Troubleshooting section tells you if it doesn't run reset the breaker ( doesn't tell you where it is) second replace the fuse ( where is it and it is not in the part section)
I need some assistance. I bought one about 2 years ago and used it once to put my flooring in. Had been stored in my garage since that job. I pulled the saw out this past weekend hoping to cut some 2x4. When I go to turn it on the saw cycles for like 2 seconds and stops. The motor appears to stay on until I manually shut it off. I saw the reset button and tried that but it didn't help. I hope it's a simple fix.
After one year of owning this saw (based on this review and the 349 price tag at Lowe’s) I have to say it’s a let down. Within the first few months many of the factory tightened fasteners were coming loose. None of them had any locktite or even lock washers. The motor itself comes out of alignment constantly. At six months two of the welds holding the frame together snapped. On top of that hitatchi both through email and through referred vendors has now Confirmed that the daddy insert is actually a myth. Yes, I made one but the design of the throat is such that it snaps when passing material through it. Also, the power cord feeding the motor doesn’t actually allow you supply a full 15 amps to it so forget about even a 14 or 12 gauge extension cord. Spend the money and buy the dewalt. Buying the hitatchi to do any real work is like buying a plastic fork cut through a steak; it will get the job done for a few minutes, but in the end you may end up chewing on chunks of plastic.
Good info. I was considering this saw but everything just felt a little flimsy to me. I guess my impressions were right. I actually ended up with the ridgid r4513 when it went on sale. Doesn't have some of the little features like soft start and braking but the fence is really solid and the whole saw feels heavy duty. Maybe I'm wrong but that's just my impression.
Hello, Why do the miter gauge slots have their top edges beveled? It seems it is not possible to remove miter guage play using nylon expansion discs due to the beveled edge. Is there any good quality miter guage that can work effectively with the beveled slots?
Have you had any problem with your Hitachi saw I see a lot of people are claiming that the power switch goes out and the soft start on the motor goes out would you still buy it
I just bought this saw $299 @ Lowe’s. Cannot be best for a multitude of reasons. Nows the time hitachi is being purged for metabo hpt. There is no difference except price (name change) lol. And from what I’ve watched over the past few months it’s the final stretch. So everyone do you.thanks for the videos and info as always!
I bought the Kobalt on sale for 179 and its still in my truck. Am I firing it back up to go back for the Hitachi for another 150? This video has me thinking it might be worth it. I know the Kobalt is a good saw, but the extra features of the Hitachi are fantastic.
Has anyone made a zero-clearance insert for this saw yet? or a dado insert? Any tips to share? I know dado insert isn't available from Hitachi just yet.
Don't know if anybody cares about this, but Lowes has been clearing out the Hitachi ($299) and replacing them with the same saw that is a "Metabo" branded. I ended up driving two hours to get the Hitachi on sale after they said it was there, to find out it was not that but the more expensive Metabo. Walked out the door with a brand new Metabo for $290 after military discount. FWIW the SKUs on the two saws are linked....hint hint. Good luck hunting these saws down!
This was a great review. Was curious to ask what about the dewalt that you still prefer it over the metabo? Lowe’s has a great deal right now on the metabo so I’m balancing between the two.
Hey Rob, I would like to know the weight of the saw withou the stand, because I wanted to bring it to Brazil, but the luggage needs to be 72lbs. I realy love the channel and the forum
I just bought one based on your table saw shootout. The DeWalt was a little too high in price and for the money, this seemed just as good or almost. Looking forward to using it in my shop.
@@farmermike9262 The fence is great. Very accurate. I have broken down plywood with my Kreg Adaptive cutting system, then ripped 96" long pieces with this saw. I then checked to see if It was equal down the length. It was. I have full confidence in it. It is a great saw. The only concern I have is if I need service in the future. DeWalt has service everywhere. Metabo doesn't. It would have to be shipped. I saved my box just in case.
What would you recommend for a good blade for finder trim type work? Also, have a recommendation fo ra dado? never done that before, so I' could use the advice.
I bought this saw on Black Friday today. I run the saw and the power keeps tripping when I used shop vac. I unplugged the shop vac and ran with 12 gauge cord alone with the table saw. It tripped again. What went wrong here? Do I have a lemon motor? Does this saw must be on dedicated line to run it?
Real world comparison between rigid 4514 and metabo 10in. Metabos fence is not sturdy too much slack in the pinion fence when locked. All plastic. Very cheap feeling. Ripping 3/4ply beyond 28in the fence and support were very unstable. The stand were very stable is a pain in the ass pushing 4 separate pins. Basically it has great features poorly executed. Janky feeling. Overall I would recommend I as a beginner/budget saw. Has great power just dont think the plastic on fence and pinion are durable enough to last thru the years. The rigid lacks metabos features but is solid and sturdy overall. The out rigging of the fence for wider rips is strong sturdy and durable. Gave me confidence when ripping 3/4 unlike the metabo. Part of the table on the rigid separates and slides out to support the fence when ripping beyond 13in. Very nice feature that NO OTHER SAW DOES! Why not? Relying on the dinky fence and pinion alone to support 3/4ply common. Also rigids stand it foot actuated. No pins to pull. No bending over and its overall weight it 20 or so lbs lighter than the metabo. If the metabo felt sturdier and Amazon could a actually deliver it without damages(sent it back twice! ) it would gave been a keeper. Rigid out shines. Would rather gave a dewalt but not at their price point
Rob do you mind giving us all an updated review of this saw? Do you think it is still a close second to the dewalt, since the buy out of Hitachi? I am hobbiest and am looking at the metabo and Dewalt 10", just not sure the dewalt is worth the extra money. Plastic gears are concern in my opinion. Thanks in advance and keep up the great reviews.
If you see this, I just posted my comments about the saw and I would not buy another one of these saws. One would think the plastic gears would wear out first, nope. The threaded steel rod wore down the threads on the cheap aluminum or pot metal attached to the motor. The result is motor/blade will not raise or lower. If you can find a new motor that is the only fix other than a new saw. Will not buy another one. My son-in-law is thinking about a way to repair this motor......
I bought the Metabo version of this Hitachi, pretty much based on the results of this video, and a few other videos showing very high reviews and recommendations. Metabo bought Hitachi, so it's the exact same saw with a different label on it. Having said that, I have noticed something that I cannot seem to figure out with this saw. The riving knife seems to be permanently affixed and cannot be removed or replaced, which presents a few problems. If I want to use a thinner blade, the wood won't pass the riving knife without binding, which obviously is dangerous. Also, if I want to use certain table saw jigs that require the riving knife to be removed, again.....I am unable to do so. Is there a way to resolve this???
Dewalt is double the price of Hikoki in Australia 🤦, not sure why it's $200 difference in the USA and Europe (euro). So I think I'm getting the Hikoki instead although I like the all metal gears for lifting mechanism, not plastic
My question is when it comes to buying a saw. I don't have much space for a cabinet saws. How ever this is what I like to own since they are very accurate and easy to work. But since I don't have the space for it which job site saw would you recommend?most my project are small. So I would like to have something that is easy and accurate to work with small pices. I was leaning towards the Dewalt. But then I heard that the miter fence is not that good. How is the Hitachi compared to it?
Omer Amir maybe check out DeWalt's cordless 8 1/4" table saw. It's tiny, and powerful by current battery performances. A couple batteries and you're good to go. The 24" rip capacity is skookum!

30yrpro just remember the one at the store was probably set up by a 16 year old clerk, and a thousand people have been messing with it
A Concord Carpenter / ToolBoxBuzz that's true but those thousand people are a great durability test.
@30yr pro that's a really good point
Thank you. My dad was thinking of buying this table saw and wanted to look at reviews to find a good table saw. Will definitely avoid it.
I've now gone through two of these, one a free replacement at Lowe's. Same exact problem. This thing is junk.
@@moshier94 Thats a shame its on sale right now and seemed promising, I want something more bulletproof for around the same price, any suggestions? I know the Ridgid one isnt as good but maybe if it doesn't breakdown thats a plus.

Thank you for the informative review! I decided to go with the C-10RJ and ordered one today. Hopefully it will serve me well.
How has it held up for you?
Has the C-10RJ performed well for you?

I'm a hobbyist, I was tossing up between this and the Dewalt DWE7491. I think the Hitachi will be more than good enough for me?
Yes. But also look at the rigid 4514 it's on sale now
You should show the riving knife in your demonstration!!
Charles Price agreed I did not realise my foreman had removed it when I filmed this
I bought one for $349 at Lowes today. Sweet! New model must be on the way.
So did I. But mine sounds weird. Have u used yours?
Jake Weihe how did u like it I m looking at this and the dewalt.
@@jakeweihe162 how is the saw doing? Accurate, power? Riving knife can be lowered for non through cut? Please give me advice as I m deciding between this saw and DeWalt 7491 thanks
@@jakeweihe162 do you still have this saw/ commenting on it sounding weird - bought one yesterday and I thought it also had a strange noise to the motor
Looks almost exactly like the dewalt including the base!
The latest version of this has an adjustable foot to level the saw on an uneven surface.
You probably dont care but if you are stoned like me during the covid times you can watch all the new series on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my gf for the last few weeks =)
@Eddie Roger Yea, I've been watching on instaflixxer for since december myself =)
Fantastic review. I just picked this up at Lowes for $312. I was curious about the dado set. I have seen complaints about the riving knife be a pain when it comes to installing a dado set. I am yet to attempt it.
I bought this saw a few months ago on major sale because Hitachi got bought out. I'm curious if you still endorse this saw two years later. Thanks!
Great review. I do have to laugh about the folding leg button complaint. I have this saw and have no issues opening or closing the legs
so I do have to laugh but in a review there always seems to be something to complain about no matter how slight a issue is.
Eric Gray patents expire ... Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery
The lack of an outfeed is what's driving me away from the Dewalt. I typically don't have a second pair of hands to help me on a lot of my home projects, so an outfeed table is kind of a must for me. I know there's work arounds, but for $500-$600, why couldn't they include an outfeed?
What was the 🏃 time for those batteries?
Hi I just bought a Hikoki and i dont like the rack and pinion is erratic noisy and the two rails have lateral movement so will not be very accurate can i improve the slides ? thanks
Kind regards

Thanx for your great review keep up great work Been considering the metabo ,bosch, or dewalts 7491 🤔 time to move up from 8 1/2 blade
I loved it myself for about 4 months. Then all the sudden it wouldn't cut on. There's no sawdust anywhere cuz I cleaned it off and use a vacuum with it. Any ideas? I couldn't find the fuse if that's the issue.
Thx Rob for the review thought about getting this saw.
Hi is a Hitachi better made than Hikoki?
what makes the DeWalt fence better than the Hitachi? I'm either buying a rolling stand for my current DeWalt or buying the Hitachi at $349.99 at Lowe's.
The rack and pinion fence is superior
I'm buying one! thanks for this review!! And by the way, they sell these at Lowe's
carlos espinal did you buy the saw how does it work if you did
Bought the Hitachi at Lowes, year end special sale for $299. Had to wait for delivery but was not using the saw during g that time. So far I like the saw, it was easy to assemble and cut good even with the factory blade. Bought a 60 tooth blade for it , have not installed it yet.
My blade isn't parallel with table slot. Can't find adjustment
I have the same problem. Anyone know how to adjust it?
@@kylecavasos9954 no adjustment. Took saw back and got the dewalt. Perfect aliment.
Which would you recommend?
greenskiis if you already have it just get the stand- it's an awesome saw
greenskiis the saw can’t be removed from the stand??
nice review, as usual. i am looking ( a little bit) for a new portable table saw. still occasionally my falling apart 20 yr old junker, as frustrating as it is, but researching now might make it easier to pull the trigger if i see a good deal-maybe used. can't justify much money for use at home...
theres no adjustment for squaring the miter slots to the blade.
Michael Ellis hmmm don’t remember seeing on, guessing it on the motor
This is now the Metabo HPT. Is this new version better than the Hitachi? How's the Hitachi holding up three years later?
Thank you Rob, great video as always!
On top of that hitatchi both through email and through referred vendors has now
Confirmed that the daddy insert is actually a myth.
Hello,
Why do the miter gauge slots have their top edges beveled?
It seems it is not possible to remove miter guage play using nylon expansion discs due to the beveled edge.
Is there any good quality miter guage that can work effectively with the beveled slots?
Have you had any problem with your Hitachi saw I see a lot of people are claiming that the power switch goes out and the soft start on the motor goes out would you still buy it
I read that too. I was considering this saw until I read that.
What kind of blade would one need to put on it for it to perform well?
60-80 tooth for what i do
I just bought this saw $299 @ Lowe’s. Cannot be best for a multitude of reasons. Nows the time hitachi is being purged for metabo hpt. There is no difference except price (name change) lol. And from what I’ve watched over the past few months it’s the final stretch. So everyone do you.thanks for the videos and info as always!
Great review. Your excitement is infections.
Always the best videos. Great communicator.
TheRazorbackscott wow thx man!
I bought the Kobalt on sale for 179 and its still in my truck. Am I firing it back up to go back for the Hitachi for another 150? This video has me thinking it might be worth it. I know the Kobalt is a good saw, but the extra features of the Hitachi are fantastic.
Harry Knows Too late now. They are selling for $480 dollars. I just checked. Oh well. I’ll be fine. Thanks
i'm shopping for a new table saw!!! this might be the one!
Between Makita mlt 100 and Bosch gtx 10 xc which one would you reccomend? One has more rpm other has more power....whisc is more important?
I just got mine, 2 cute and its down. not working . (looked at power supply and comon errors)
Has anyone made a zero-clearance insert for this saw yet? or a dado insert? Any tips to share? I know dado insert isn't available from Hitachi just yet.
There is a leg adjustment system. its only on one leg
Does this accept a dato stack?
Don't know if anybody cares about this, but Lowes has been clearing out
the Hitachi ($299) and replacing them with the same saw that is a
"Metabo" branded. I ended up driving two hours to get the Hitachi on
sale after they said it was there, to find out it was not that but the
more expensive Metabo. Walked out the door with a brand new Metabo for
$290 after military discount. FWIW the SKUs on the two saws are
linked....hint hint.
I guess you made people by this, can't find this thing for under 500 now :-/. Great review
Check Lowe’s and Amazon brother
Actually Amazon closed the deal recently, but Lowe’s has one until the 18th
Does anyone know how to take the slop out of the fence? It doesn’t move back and forth evenly.
Hi. Great review. Do u still recommend saw
Yes
How does the rack and pinion fence on the Hitachi compares to DeWalt in accuracy, reliability and durability?
AUSHER on par
How is the saw working out for you to date? I've seen reports of the fence release lever breaking on people? Any issues with that or any other issues?
AUSHER no issues
"While I think the Dewalt is way better, the Hitachi is pretty darn close." Huh?
Probably definitely
Nervous chatter. Slow down, take a breath, think.
The Dewalt should be its $200 plus more. Is it worth that for a job site saw???
I assume he meant the “Dewalt is clearly better, but the Hitachi is pretty darn close.”
Listen to the whole statement. Yes the Dewalt is a better saw but is it $200 better... For me no.
I just bought one based on your table saw shootout. The DeWalt was a little too high in price and for the money, this seemed just as good or almost. Looking forward to using it in my shop.
What do you think of the durability and sturdiness of the fence and when ripping beyond 13, 15 , 18in?
@@farmermike9262 The fence is great. Very accurate. I have broken down plywood with my Kreg Adaptive cutting system, then ripped 96" long pieces with this saw. I then checked to see if It was equal down the length. It was. I have full confidence in it. It is a great saw. The only concern I have is if I need service in the future. DeWalt has service everywhere. Metabo doesn't. It would have to be shipped. I saved my box just in case.
What would you recommend for a good blade for finder trim type work? Also, have a recommendation fo ra dado? never done that before, so I' could use the advice.
80-100 tooth blade for finish work
I bought this saw on Black Friday today. I run the saw and the power keeps tripping when I used shop vac. I unplugged the shop vac and ran with 12 gauge cord alone with the table saw. It tripped again. What went wrong here? Do I have a lemon motor? Does this saw must be on dedicated line to run it?
I don't think this is in UK yet. Dewalt killer! Then 7491RS is £900 so be interested to see where they price the Hitachi
Just picked one up for $314 from Lowes with 10% off coupon. Woot!
Have you found solutions yet? Please let me know because I want to buy this saw but we as worry about the riving knife issue too.thanks
Omer Amir all of these table size have similar Miter fences it very simple and not too involved
